Abstract
Description
Obstakel detectiesysteem voor automatisch vloer schoonmaak apparaat.Obstacle detection system for automatic floor cleaning device.
The invention relates to a detection system in accordance with the preamble of claim 1. Such an arrangement is known, for example, from WO 02/067745 A1. In this document an automatic floor cleaning device is described with an obstacle detection system that consists of various parts. Mention is made of a bumper that is movable relative to the chassis, activating device consisting of a hinged arm and micro switch. A drawback is that the proposed construction is relatively complicated with various moving parts. Another disadvantage of these moving parts is that there are 10 pivot points that evoke friction so that insensitivity can occur on the side of the cleaning device. This insensitivity increases as the cleaning device touches the obstacle on the side of the cleaning device.
In order to avoid these disadvantages, the cleaning device is designed in accordance with claim 1. By using a hood made of a flexible material and attaching it to a specific location on the chassis, a particularly high sensitivity is achieved for detecting obstacles, also for obstacles that touch the cleaning device more to the side, and moreover an extremely simple construction has been realized. With such a simple construction, production costs can be reduced. The flexibility of the hood and thus the sensitivity of detecting obstacles by the cleaning device is determined by the choice of material; dimensions, thickness and type. A good result can be achieved with a plastic material as known under the industrial name PET of 1.5 mm thickness.
The invention also comprises a completely closed cap with the preamble of claim 2. The construction of a hinged bumper with respect to the chassis as described in the aforementioned patent WO 02/067745 A1 is known. This construction has the disadvantage that there is a certain space between bumper and chassis. Objects such as electrical equipment cords or shoelaces can become entangled in this space.
The construction from patent US5787545 is also known. However, this closed cap is attached to the chassis by means of springs. This construction is not further explained in the aforementioned patent. The presence of said springs implies the presence of attachment points on both the chassis and the hood. 1022340 2 of these springs will also be overloaded, especially when stretching during e.g. lifting the device, provision must be made to guarantee reliable operation.
In accordance with an improvement, the mounting is carried out according to claim 3. The cap is directly attached to the chassis by means of screws, without using springs. If desired, confirmation can also be made by using adhesives or pop nails. Optionally, by applying a self-locking attachment, the cap can be fixed on the chassis, which makes the installation of screws, glue or pop nails completely unnecessary. By making use of the right material and thickness in combination with the dimensions, on the one hand a special flexibility is achieved and on the other hand the danger of damage due to overloading is avoided. This construction method has the advantage that a minimum of fastening materials is required and that assembly is quick and easy.
In accordance with an improvement, the detection system is equipped with electrical contacts on the edge of the hood and chassis according to claim 4. The contacts used must have corrosion-resistant properties in order to guarantee a durable contact effect. By keeping the space between hood and chassis as limited as possible, the required distortion of the hood is kept to a minimum, so that the sensitivity for detecting obstacles is maximized. Multiple contacts can be used for determining direction.
Detection of obstacles during the advancement of the cleaning device is realized in that the flexible hood encounters an obstacle and the chassis continues to move so that the contacts on the hood and chassis touch each other and this is detected by the control unit. The control unit will then have the cleaning device 25 perform an obstacle-avoiding maneuver. This embodiment has the advantage that no additional microswitches are required.
In accordance with an improvement, the fixation of the flexible hood is attached to the chassis and integrated with controls at a specific location made in accordance with claim 5. This specific location is located more on the rear of the flexible hood where a lower sensitivity does not affect is for a good functioning of the detection system. In general, detection of obstacles is desirable at the front of the cleaning device. A lesser sensitivity for detecting obstacles at the rear of the cleaning device can be accepted 1022340 3. An important advantage is that obstacles are also detected at the top of the flexible hood. When, for example, a pet or a playing child exerts a compressive force on the upper side of the flexible hood, this can be detected by an electrical contact.
In accordance with an improvement, operating elements such as one or more push buttons and LCD display or LEDs can be integrated with the mounting construction of flexible cover to the chassis made in accordance with claim 6.
This construction has the advantage that the fastening materials that fasten the flexible hood to the chassis can be concealed behind the operating member, thereby creating a more attractive appearance.
In accordance with an improvement, electrical contacts for charging the battery control can be integrated with the obstacle detection sensors implemented according to claim 7. As electrical contact, double-sided printing material of a small thickness, approximately 0.5 mm, can be used, whereby flexibility is guaranteed . By equipping the printed material facing the outside with two separate contacts for the positive conductor and ground, this side can be used to make contact with a charging station. The inward-facing side of the print material is a closed surface and acts as a guide for detecting obstacles in cooperation with the contacts mounted on the chassis. This integration has the advantage that the construction is simple and therefore leads to cost savings.
In accordance with an improvement, the flexible hood can be simply adjusted in accordance with claim 8. By arranging two set screws in the chassis which press against on the inside of the flexible hood, the hood position relative to the chassis can easily be adjusted. A protective material can be used if desired to protect against damage to the set screws. The set screws are easily accessible from the bottom.
This construction has the advantage that manufacturing imperfections caused by tolerances can be adjusted.
