Description
Short designation: Drainage system to be used with an open wound and kit and method to be used for applying the drainage system.
The invention relates to a drainage system for use with an open wound, which system consists of a block of porous, moisture-absorbing material, connected to a hose or tube which in turn is connected to a suction, which porous material is covered with a foil, an element consisting of a plate-shaped member which is provided on the top side with a partially open thickening for applying or inserting the tube or hose, which thickening is provided on the bottom side, on the porous moisture-absorbing material. of one or more openings, opening into and co-operating with openings in the plate-shaped member.
The invention further relates to a kit comprising the different parts to be used in the treatment of open wounds with such a drainage system, to a method for applying the drainage system in the treatment of open wounds and on one or both sides is adhesive or can be made adhesive, provided that in case the foil is adhesive on one side then the plate-shaped member is adhesive on the underside or can be made so that the foil can adhere to the skin near the wound on the one hand and on the other hand adhered to the bottom of the plate-shaped member.
A drainage system is also known from ΕΡ-Α-0 620 720, as shown in figure 1. In addition, a block of foam that absorbs the wound fluid is placed in the open wound, connected to a suction hose and the whole of wound, block of foam and part of the suction hose is covered with foil. In this way, wound fluid is removed. In practice, this known system has some drawbacks, partly because it is problematic to cover the whole of wound, foam block and suction hose connected thereto with the foil. Moreover, it has been found that such a system creates an insufficiently homogeneous underpressure in the foam block, as a result of which there is a chance that the wound fluid will remain in the wound, which is very undesirable.
Rond het 10151 6Y.EP-A-0 688 189 (in the name of the holder of EP-A-0 620 720) discloses two reduced-pressure wound treatment systems, the system as described in Figure 1 of EP-A-0 688 189 is an improvement over the drainage system as described in EP-A-0 620 720. The improvement consists in that the suction tube 12 is inserted in foam block 10, which tube 12a is provided with one or more openings 14 around wound fluid via hose. 12 to suction. In this system too, there is an insufficiently homogeneous underpressure in the total foam block, so that there is a chance that wound fluid may remain in the wound, with all the undesired consequences thereof. The improvement according to EP-A-0 993 317 lies in the fact that with that element the suction tube does not have to be inserted into the foam block that absorbs the wound fluid, but only has to be connected to the open thickening applied to the element. Furthermore, the foil can easily be applied to that element without the danger of the foil coming into contact with the wound. The second embodiment according to EP-A-0 688 189 is shown in figure 5 of said European patent application. According to this Figure 5, a rigid bell-shaped member provided with openings and a suction tube is placed on a foam plate 120 placed in the wound. Around 10151 6Y.
Under the influence of the reduced pressure, the wound flesh will be drawn in so that the wound heals faster. By applying the reduced pressure, however, no wound fluid is extracted via the foam plate via the hose which forms a connection between the source of the reduced pressure and the bell. The embodiment as shown in figure 5 of EP-A-0 688 189 is therefore different in embodiment and objective with respect to the drainage system and the associated element according to EP-A-0 993 317.
Dit in tegenstelling tot het systeem en het element volgens EP-A-0 993 317.The above-mentioned embodiment as shown in Figure 5 of EP-A-0 688 189 is similar to the drainage system described in U.S. Patent 2,122,121 (1938). The drainage system known from US patent 2,122,121 is particularly intended for the treatment of wounds caused by operations on the urinary bladder. Therefore, the drainage system is placed around the thighs and placed on the lower abdomen using bands 43 (Figure 1 of said US patent). A package of gauze 40 is placed in the bell-shaped member 1 as shown in figure 4, shielded with an elevation 16 provided with perforations. Air is sucked in via the perforation and a ring line and extracted via line 30. The gauze which have absorbed wound fluid can be used every day be replaced with clean gauze pads. The purpose of the system according to this US patent is to provide an air circulation over the wound in which wound fluid is absorbed in the gauze, which wound fluid is however not removed via the vacuum system, but remains in the gauze. This is in contrast to the system and the element according to EP-A-0 993 317.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a drainage system and an appropriate kit, which should be regarded as an improvement over European patent application 0 993 317 previously filed on behalf of the present applicant 1015167 φ 4.
Another object of the present invention is further to provide a drainage system and an appropriate kit that solves the problems of the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a drainage system and a suitable kit which can be used advantageously for wounds of large areas.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a drainage system and an appropriate kit that allow the sanitary conditions required for the wound to be maintained.
The drainage system according to the invention is as indicated in the preamble and is characterized in that the foil is or can be made adhesive at least over parts of the surface on one or both sides, provided that in case the foil is adhesive on one side then the plate-shaped member on the underside thereof is adhesive or can be made adhesive so that the foil can adhere on the one hand to the skin near the wound and on the other hand can be adhered to the underside of the plate-shaped member so that the foil can adhere on the skin on the one hand the wound and the other can be sutured to the underside of the plate-shaped member.
A hygienic environment is thus ensured, which is of great importance for wounds, in particular for the prevention of infections. Moreover, the foil is easy and quick to apply, so that contact of harmful micro-organisms with the environment of the wound is minimized. Preferably, the foil is adhesive on one side so that the foil can be and is adhered to the skin. the element adheres to the bottom. It is also possible that the foil is adhesive on two sides, in which case it is not necessary for the element to be adhesive on the underside.

The invention further relates to a kit for a drainage system according to the invention, which kit consists of an element, foil and a block of porous material, the element being a plate-shaped member with a partly open thickening applied thereon for applying or inserting a hose or tube, which thickening is provided on the underside with one or more openings which communicate with the openings through the plate-shaped member, a foil which can adhere at least in parts, characterized in that the foil adheres at least on one side in which the element is then provided with an adhesive layer on the underside or in which the foil is or can be made to adhere to certain parts on both sides.
The invention also relates to a method for applying the drainage system in the treatment of open wounds, wherein the three main parts of the kit are applied above the wound, namely the block-shaped porous material, the foil and the element, wherein according to the invention the porous moisture absorbing material is first applied to or in the open wound and then the film is applied over the porous moisture absorbing material and adhered to the skin. An opening is then made in the foil above the moisture-absorbing material and the element consisting of the plate-shaped member with the thickening is placed in or over the opening and this element is placed on the foil on the one hand and the block-shaped, porous material on the other film is adhered between a part of the porous material and a part of the element, the thickening being accessible for the insertion or insertion of said tube or hose in order to thus remove the moisture present in the wound via a suction system. Furthermore, there is direct contact between the middle part of the element and the middle part of the block of porous material.
I i: .The kit which can be used for the drainage system according to the invention consists of a plate-shaped member with on it.
L f^· - - j <* 6 aangebracht een gedeeltelijk open verdikking voor het aanbrengen of insteken van een slang of buis, welke verdikking aan de onderzijde is voorzien van één of meer openingen die in verbinding staan met de openingen door het plaatvormig orgaan, en een folie en eventueel een blok 5 poreus materiaal, waarbij het plaatvormige orgaan aan de onderzijde hiervan kan zijn voorzien van een hechtlaag en de folie aan één zijde is voorzien van een hechtlaag of waarbij het plaatvormige orgaan geen hechtlaag omvat en de folie aan beide zijden over bepaalde delen is voorzien van een hechtlaag.L f ^ - - j <* 6 provided a partially open thickening for applying or inserting a hose or tube, which thickening at the bottom is provided with one or more openings which communicate with the openings through the plate-shaped member, and a foil and optionally a block of porous material, wherein the plate-shaped member can be provided with an adhesive layer on the underside thereof and the foil is provided with an adhesive layer on one side or wherein the plate-shaped member does not comprise an adhesive layer and the foil on both sides over certain parts is provided with an adhesive layer.
The drainage system according to the invention is used for treating a chronic or acute wound by applying the porous block or sponge-like liquid-absorbing material made of a microporous foam to the wound. A foil is then applied over the porous block, the foil adhering to the skin around the wound. An opening is made in the foil above the porous block. The element is then adhered to the foil in such a way that the openings at the bottom of the thickening of the element are in open connection with the porous block. Adhesion of the element to the foil takes place by providing the element with an adhesive layer on the bottom or by providing the foil on the top that comes into contact with the element with an adhesive layer. The bead on the element remains freely accessible to the tube or hose that is fitted or inserted into the open end of the bead. After the element has been applied adhesively, a reduced pressure can be applied under the foil via the hose or tube, so that wound fluid can be extracted from the wound via the porous block over the entire surface of the block.
The element which is provided with an adhesive on the underside at least over part of the edge surface is also new.

The underside of the element 10 is placed on the block of porous material, while the foil is applied to the underside of the element, so that these three components which are important for the proper functioning of the drainage system according to the invention form an integral whole.
Figure 4 schematically shows the application of the drainage system according to the invention. In figure 4, in accordance with the indications in figure 1, an open wound 22 in skin 21 is shown, in which wound a block 23 of foam-like material is placed. Examples of the foamed material are polyvinyl alcohol and polyurethane. The foil 25 is applied to the block 23 and is applied to the skin in places 27 and 28. Furthermore, the foil can adhere to the edge on the block 23. Then an opening is made in the middle of the foil and the element 10 is placed on this opening and adhered to foil 25 by releasing an adhesive layer on the foil 25 or because the bottom side of element 10 is provided with an adhesive layer. The element 10 consists of the plate-shaped member 11 with the thickening 12 arranged thereon. The thickening 12 has the open end 13 and the closed end 14. The plate-shaped member 11 provides the openings 20 which open into the hollow of the thickening. 12. In the open end 13 of the thickening 12, the hose or tube 24 is placed and connected to the suction 26. The construction according to figure 4 is easy to install because the foam-shaped block 23 shortly before the treatment is at the desired size, depending on the size of the wound, it can be cut out and then covered after placement in the wound.
To achieve a more uniform suction over the total contact area between the bottom of the element and the porous material and to better conduct the conductivity of moisture from the top of the block of porous material to the openings provided under the thickening 1 015167 9 , it is possible to arrange studs, guide ribs and the like on the underside of the element.
