Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a repair device for repairing one or more damages located on the label side of an optical disc.
An optical disc is a sound medium provided with digital information on one side, which consists of a transparent disc on which a reflective metal layer has been deposited. The transparent disc is provided with a large number of wells which, in combination with the reflective metal layer applied thereon, form a spiral track in which information, such as for instance acoustic information in the case of a compact disc for sound or acoustic information, together with image information in the case of a videodisc, is stored. The metal layer is covered by a plastic protective layer which in most cases is provided with a graphic representation for the visual information of the optical disc.
Disturbances due to scratches, damage, dust, etc. in the surface of the transparent disc generally have relatively little influence on the sound and / or image quality, since they can be corrected in known manner with error correction circuits in the disc playback device. However, disturbances due to scratches, damage and / or dust in the surface of the plastic protective layer on the label side of the optical disc and in some cases even in the said reflective metal layer are hardly corrected, if at all, and thus influence the sound and noise produced. / or 30 image quality of the optical disc. In addition, the plastic protective layer on the label side of the optical disc is more susceptible to scratches, since this layer is many times 1009AS5 2 times thinner than the transparent disc on the opposite side of the optical disc.
The object of the present invention is to provide a repair device which efficiently repairs optical discs damaged on the label side in a simple manner, so that the sound and / or image quality of the optical disc is maintained or at least improved.
A further object of the invention is to provide a repair device which improves tracking of the optical disk in the presence of damage.
To this end, the present invention provides a repair device for repairing one or more damages located on the label side of an optical disk, which repair device is fixable over the damages of the optical disk and comprises reflective material for reflecting incident laser light on it.
In a preferred form of the invention, the recovery device is provided with adhesives for attaching the recovery device to the optical disk. In a preferred form of the invention, the adhesives are formed by an adhesive layer, which optionally is provided with a removable protection. This allows a recovery device to be easily attached to the optical disc.
In a preferred form of the invention, the reflective material is formed by a polyester chrome foil.
In another embodiment of the invention, the repair device has a composition such that it can be applied in liquid form over the damage and subsequently cured. This makes it possible to repair small damages, in particular, quickly and effectively.
The present invention also relates to an assembly of a box-shaped container and one 1009185 3 or more of the above-mentioned repair devices, wherein these repair devices are substantially disc-shaped and have a passage opening in the middle, the container being provided on the inside with a 5 central elevation, which cooperates with said passage opening. By designing the recovery device in disk form with a passage opening in the center, the part of an optical disk relevant for reading can be covered by a single recovery device. Moreover, such shaped recovery devices can be stored in a container in a simple and compact manner.
The present invention also relates to a method for repairing at least one damage on the label side of an optical disc with said assembly, comprising: - placing a repair device in the holder; - placing the optical disk to be repaired in the holder with the label side of an optical disk to be repaired facing the repair device in the holder; and - attaching the recovery device to the optical disc.

An optical disc 1 (figure 1) is built up from a round transparent disc 2 of polycarbonate with a metal (aluminum) layer applied on one side. The transparent disc 2 is provided with a large number of very closely spaced small wells or floors (8-4.6 μτη long, 0.5 μτη wide and 0.1 μτη 10 deep). The reflective metal layer 3 applied to the transparent disk 2 similarly follows the pattern of pits in the transparent disk 2. The metal layer 3 is protected by a protective layer 4 in which a label is provided for identifying the optical device to a user disk 1. The total thickness of the optical disk 1 is about 1.2 mm, the thickness of the polycarbonate layer 2 about 1 mm and the thickness of the protective layer on the label side 4 about 0.2 mm. The optical disc 1 is provided in the center 20 with an opening with a diameter of approximately 15 mm through which a drive shaft 5 of the disc playback device (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) protrudes. The drive shaft rotates the optical disk 1. A semiconductor laser 6 emits a laser beam (the direction of movement of which is indicated by an arrow), which is then directed to the optical disc 1 via a deflection grating 7, a semipermeable polarizing mirror 8, a quarter-wavelength grating 9, mirror 10 and an objective 11. . Since the polycarbonate layer 2 has a refractive index that differs little from that of the environment, only a small part of the laser beam reflects on the transition between the environment and the polycarbonate layer 2 and the majority of the laser beam propagates through the layer of polycarbonate 2. The laser beam is reflected against the reflective layer 3 and in the reverse direction reaches through the objective 11, the mirror 10, the quarter wavelength grating 9 and the semi-transmissive polarizing mirror 8 10 0 S 1 8 5 5 a photodiode 12 which transmits the light pulses in digital electrical signals.
Very minor damage or scratches on the surface of the optical disc do not affect the reproduction of the information stored in the tracks due to the limited focusing area (diameter less than 1.7 μπ) of the laser light at the reflecting surface. In the case of greater damage or scratches, error correction circuits 10 (not shown) are provided in the disc playback device which attempt to recover the original information on the optical disc.
Since the protective layer 4 on the label side of the optical disc 1 is much thinner than the polycarbonate layer 2 on the opposite side of optical disc 1, the protective layer 4 is more vulnerable to damage than the polycarbonate layer 2. Figure 2 shows the situation in which damage or scratch 13 has occurred in the protective layer 4 and the reflective metal layer 3. The semiconductor laser 6 emits the laser beam 20 which is then directed to the optical disc via a defraction grating 7, a semipermeable polarizing mirror 8, a quarter wavelength grating 9, a mirror 10 and an objective 11. Due to the absence of the reflective metal layer 3, the laser beam is not reflected on this layer and exits from the optical disk 1 on the label side of the optical disc 1. the photodiode 12. As a result, the decoration errors caused by the damage are no longer properly corrected. The optical disc 1 also skips in many cases, that is to say that the tracking system of the disc playback device can no longer follow the correct track.
In figure 3 it is indicated that a reflective repairs or sticker 14 is applied over the label side of the optical disc 1, such that the entire damage 13 is thereby covered. When the laser beam reaches the sticker 14 through the layer of polycarbonate 2 and via the damage 13, it is reflected back and reaches the photodiode 12 via objective 11, mirror 10, the quarter wavelength lattice 9 and the semipermeable polarizing mirror 8. Although the digital information provided by the reflected laser beam is not correct, it has been found in practice that this case can be recovered by means of error correction, the original signal, ie the signal that would be obtained without damage. In addition, tracking of the optical disc 1 has been found to be improved, thereby reducing the chance of skipping during playback of the optical disc 1 accordingly.
The width of the disc substantially corresponds to the width of the recording area of the optical disc 1 to be repaired, which width in the case of a music CD 20 is approximately 33 mm. By providing the adhesive 20 on the underside with an adhesive layer 22, it is easy to attach it to the recording area of the optical disk 1 to be repaired. By designing the repair adhesive 20 in the form shown in Figure 4, it is possible to treat damage to the label side of the optical disc 1 with only one patch. The visible side of the repair patch 20 can then be labeled or graphically identified to identify the treated optical disc 1.
Figure 5 shows a repair patch which is provided a priori on the underside with an adhesive layer 22 which in turn is covered with a protective layer 23. Before using the repair patch 20, the protective layer 23 must be removed manually, so that the adhesive layer 22 is released.
In an embodiment of the invention, not shown, a viscous liquid with a reflective material incorporated therein is applied over the damage and the liquid is allowed to harden. After curing, a reflective layer is formed which reflects the laser beam at the location of damage in the manner described above in order to improve the tracking of the optical disc 1 and to recover the original sound and / or image signal.
In a further embodiment (not shown) of the invention, the repair patches 20 of Figures 4 and 5 are stored in a box-shaped holder, the holder in the bottom being provided with a central elevation or bulge over which the repair patch 20 can be slid . By subsequently applying a glue layer 22 to a repair patch 20 or by removing the protective layer 23 from the repair patch 20, whereby a glue layer 22 is released, and then placing the optical disc 1 to be repaired with the label side against the adhesive layer of the patch 20. pushing (in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. 6 20) ensures that the sticker 20 without applying air bubbles between the sticker 20 and the optical disk 1 can be applied in a very simple manner exactly centered over the recording part of the optical disk . After removal of the treated optical disk 1 from the holder, the patch is optionally rubbed, whereby possible remaining air bubbles can be pierced with a game. Subsequently, the next optical disk to be repaired can be pressed in a corresponding manner on the (adhesive layer 22 of the) next repair patch 20 arranged in the holder.
