Description
Devices for inhalation of medicament, e.g. for asthmatics, are now generally accepted. So-called multi-dose inhalers are already known, in which a powdered (or liquid) dose is each time transported from a reservoir to a mixing space, after which, after aspiration, the medicament enters the user's airways through the mouth. Furthermore, inhalers exist in which one or more doses contained in a blister pack are placed in a device, after which, after piercing the blister pack, the medicament can be inhaled. It is also known to inhale the contents of a capsule, which must first be pierced or divided, from an inhaler.
From US patent 5,622,166 an inhaler is known, wherein a disc-shaped blister pack is rotated in each case and pierced by a pin operated by a coil spring. This construction is relatively complicated and expensive and is not suitable as a disposable inhaler; only the blister pack is discarded.
Furthermore, US Pat. No. 4,860,740 discloses an apparatus for facilitating the inhalation of powdered medicament from a container. In this case, the containers must be placed in the device, after which the containers are opened by the device upon inhalation. This relatively complicated device is therefore equally unsuitable for serving as a disposable inhaler. Only the container portions in which the powdered medicament is contained can be discarded.
The object of the present invention is to provide a disposable inhaler, which can be manufactured in large numbers at a relatively low cost price; their dimensions can remain extremely modest, so that the user can easily take one or more such inhalers with them and throw them away after use.
The present invention provides a device for inhalation of medicament, comprising: - a first housing portion having one or more cavities, in which a dose of a predetermined amount of powdered medicament is pre-applied; and - a second housing section, which is substantially inseparably attachable to the first housing section, wherein the first and second housing sections are movable relative to each other between a first position in which the cavities are closed with powdered medicament, and a second position, in which the interior of one of the cavities is communicated with an airway and the medicament is inhalable.
In a first preferred embodiment, the movable part is rotatable, wherein the rotatable part contains a number of cavities for the medicament to be dosed. Preferably, the rotatable portion is rotatable in one direction and a clear click is heard and palpable as soon as a dose has been dialed. In the unlikely event that the rotatable part is rotated without a dose being inhaled, this dose is again closed off from the environment on further rotation. Since, in the preferred embodiment, the device is blocked after the last dose is rotated in the airway, a turned dose remains otherwise inaccessible.
In a further preferred embodiment, the device is enclosed in a liquid and / or airtight packaging, in order to prevent the medicament from becoming moist (and possibly lumpy) and / or losing its effect over a longer period of time. This so-called overpack 1008031 '3 may furthermore contain information relevant to the product, and also serves as an assurance for the user that the device is guaranteed to be good and has not been used before. A blister-like package 5 may also contain a number of the device according to the present invention.
The number of doses may be one, e.g. in the case of morphine, but may also be four or more, e.g. sufficient for use in a week.
2.Further advantages, features and details of the present invention will be elucidated with reference to the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, with reference to the annexed drawings, in which: fig. 1 shows an isometric bottom view of a preferred embodiment of a device according to the present invention; FIG. 2 is an isometric top view of the preferred embodiment shown in FIG. 1; Fig. 3 shows a top view of a part of the preferred embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2; FIG. 4 is an exploded view of the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the part of FIG. 4 being filled with medicament; and fig. 5 shows a cross-sectional view along the line V-V from fig. 2.
A device 1 (fig. 1-5) is preferably packaged in an at least (water-) vapor-tight, but preferably also airtight package 2, such as a blister package, from which a foil 3 can be peeled off shortly before use. The device 1 further comprises a mouthpiece 4, which is provided at the top with an upright edge 5 in order to ensure that the device is inserted into the mouth to the correct distance but not too far. In an embodiment not shown, the device can be included in a blister-like package, which contains, for example, four or six devices 1008031 4 genes, one of which can then be pressed through the blister package.
The nozzle 4 is preferably formed in one piece with a housing portion 10 (see in particular Fig. 4) and comprises a central sleeve 6 with a somewhat flexible wall portion 7, which is separated from gaps through which slit 8 is visible. wall part 7. At the top there is a suction opening 9 with ribs 11 extending over it. When the air is sucked in, for example at a minimum quantity of 20 liters per minute, the air moving over the cavity is drawn in and the powder is removed from the cavity carried by the airflow. In the shown preferred embodiment the air resistance is mediocre, that is to say that even a user with low suction power can suck the powder from the cavity. At the top, the component 10 is further preferably provided with markings (4, 3, 2 and 1, respectively), which indicate the number of doses still to be inhaled. A lower housing portion 12, preferably provided with engagement surfaces 13, is rotatable relative to the housing portion 10.
In another preferred embodiment, not shown, a suction opening can also be provided in the bottom, in order to further reduce the air resistance and in order to prevent the air resistance from becoming too great if the user unexpectedly places a finger on one of the two suction openings.
Zoals in fig. As can be clearly seen in Fig. 3, for the counting mechanism, the portion 12 is provided with a protrusion 30, while it further includes cavities 16, 17, 18 and 19, for receiving therein preferably deposited powdered medicament . Recesses 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 are provided next to the cavities 16-19, for the purpose of reinforcing the construction, saving plastic material and preventing moisture from getting into the cavities 16-19. Surrounding a blind hole 30, obliquely ascending wall parts 26, 27, 28 and 29 are provided, each of which cooperates with the flexible wall part 7 on the housing part 1008031 5 when rotating thereof, whereby projecting part 12 rotates with it. In addition to flexible wall part 7, a slit 32 is visible in the figure.
After the cavities 16, 17, 18 and 19 have been filled with inhalable powder, the housing part 10 is locked on the lower housing part 12 in such a way that the device cannot be opened in practice for the user. After snapping in, the device is in the zero or initial 10 position shown in Figure 2, with protrusion 14 indicating that four more doses are available. If the user wishes to inhale a dose, the lower housing portion 12 is rotated, with the flexible wall portion 7 rotating along protruding wall portion 26 and hitting between wall portions 26 and 27 with a clicking sound 15 and also perceptibly. In this state (and upon subsequent twisting between the other markings shown in FIG. 2), an airway is released over the respective cavity and the vacuum generated by the airflow is fed the powder from the cavity into the nozzle.
In fig. In Fig. 5 it is furthermore clearly visible that the upper part has a substantially conical surface, which connects to a conical surface on the lower part, which is located under a snap edge. A minimum distance (d) is left between the upper and lower parts, so as not to have problems with regard to the tolerances in the injection molding technique used; use is preferably made of a high-quality, injection-moldable plastic, which is reusable, for example, for other purposes.
Zoals vooral in fig. As can be seen in particular in Fig. 4, in the shown preferred embodiment the flexible wall part gets into the end position between the upright end parts of edge parts 29 and 31, in which position the device 35 is blocked against further rotation, so that the user knows that he is inhaling the inhaler can be discarded, which is indicated by a counting mechanism that no longer points to a number for doses still available.
1008031 61008031 6
After rotating the disk, the user can easily suck on the device according to the present invention, which requires a relatively simple hand-mouth coordination. Furthermore, a dosage of medicament (for some medicaments with addition of carrier material (such as lactose) is preferably dosed into the cavities such that the user feels in the mouth and throat that inhalation has taken place.
The present invention is not limited to the above described preferred embodiment thereof; the requested rights are defined by the following claims, within the scope of which many modifications are conceivable.
