Description
Bevestigingsmiddel en werkwijze geschikt voor het verbinden van bijvoorbeeld een knoop voorzien van ten minste twee gaten aan een stofFastener and method suitable for connecting, for example, a knot provided with at least two holes to a fabric
The invention relates to a fastening means and method suitable for connecting, for example, a knot to a fabric.
With garments which are fastened by means of buttons, the problem regularly arises that the button becomes detached from the fabric, with the risk of the button being lost. Loss of such a knot may result in the failure to find a corresponding knot to replace the loosened knot 10, after which the remaining knots of the garment must also be removed in order to restore a uniform knot pattern to the garment.
To avoid this problem, as well as for the reason that the garment can be closed again, it is often attempted to put the loosened button or a replacement button back on as quickly as possible. It has been proposed in the prior art to do this with a needle and thread. In general and especially for the (business) traveler, this has the problem that this traditionally known technique requires good eyesight and above all a lot of time and patience. A major problem is the task of passing the thread through the eye of the needle. For this reason, alternative ways of attaching a knot to a fabric have long been sought.
For example, Dutch patent 84228 discloses a fastening device for a knot, consisting of a two-legged staple and a counter-knot, wherein the staple has to be pressed simultaneously through the knot, the material between the knot and the counter-knot, and the counter-knot, after which the legs of the staple can be bent and secured in grooves of the counter-knot. With this known device it is disadvantageous that a counter-knot has to be used and that the appearance of the attached knot shows the material of the staple, which is generally a metal 10 0 Ί 8 1 "2 thread.
This optical disadvantage also arises with the knot stitcher which is proposed in the Dutch patent application 9101990, in which use is made of a plastic thread, in which a metal thread is incorporated for the purpose of firmness. This thread must be passed through the holes of a knot to be attached, also using a counter-knot which is provided with holes through which the plastic thread can be inserted and which holes for cooperation attach with grooves at the ends of the the plastic thread.
The object of the invention is now to provide a fastener suitable for connecting, for example, a knot to a fabric, with which the fastened knot 15 shows as if it has been sewn in a conventional manner with needle and thread. Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a fastener which allows the fastening of a loosened knot to be performed in a very quick manner and which does not require as much time or dexterity as desired when handling the needle and wire.
The fastening means as proposed according to the invention is therefore characterized in that it comprises a thread and two needles which are connected at the ends of the thread remote from each other.
The fastener according to the invention has the advantage that it can be used well for purposes other than making a loosened knot. Namely, this fastener can also be used for sewing together fabric that has been torn or in which a hole has fallen, for example, and which must be repaired.
The invention has also been embodied in a method of attaching a knot to a fabric using this fastener.
With the fastener according to the invention, it has now surprisingly become possible that the button is put back on in just a few seconds and that the optical effect of the button put on is no different from a conventional needle and thread set button.

To this end, in the method according to the invention, the knot is made against the fabric, and the needles of the fastener are inserted into different holes of the knot and then pressed through the fabric, after which the thread 5 is pulled through the holes of the knot until the knot is kept at a desired maximum distance from the fabric, and at least one knot is placed in the thread on the side of the fabric facing away from the knot and the loose thread ends with the attached needles are removed.
According to the invention, it is desirable that the thread and the needles have a substantially equal thickness and merge almost free of thickness variations. This achieves that the passage of the needles and the thread coupled thereto through the fabric can proceed without unnecessary resistance. In that connection, according to the invention, there is also proposed a single needle thread which has a substantially equal thickness and which merges substantially free of thickness variations.
Various variations are conceivable for connecting the needle or needles to the ends of the thread. This connection can for instance be realized by gluing or by ultrasonic fixing. It is also conceivable to press the needle or needles around the thread, but the needles are preferably formed from a plastic in which the thread is at least partly embedded. This is achievable by using the injection molding technique. The thread can be passed through a mold, the needle being injection-molded at the desired location. Incidentally, it is also possible to melt locally with plastic needles and to introduce the wire into the melt, after which the connection is realized by solidifying the melted needle end. Depending on the mounting technique used, the needles can be made of metal, wood or plastic. It is conceivable that the thread is also made of plastic, but in order to achieve the best optical effects of the sewn on knot it is preferred that the thread is made of cotton. Incidentally, other types of material for the wire can also be used within the scope of the invention.
