Abstract

The person taking the examination observes the screen of a computer, and uses a keyboard to key in answers to questions displayed on the screen. The computer has internal memories which carry programs and temporary memories which store the student's answers. The program can "concentrate" on areas of the student's knowledge of the subject in which earlier questions demonstrate a lack of knowledge. Alternatively, it can switch to different topics, if the student obviously has a good knowledge of earlier topics.
