Abstract

The navigation system (1) has two sensor inputs: a compass transducer (9) and the vehicle's odometer (3). The driver uses a control panel (7) and disc drive (6) to programme the machine and to establish the vehicle's current position. The required destination is selected (2) and the route calculator (4) determines the best route, using data from a CD-ROM library (8). When the vehicle is moving, the mapping and current position display are continually updated, using dynamic data from the distance and direction sensors.
