Abstract

The steel wire (17) passes through the old pipe (19) and terminates in a pull-cone (18). This pushes the old pipe (19) out of the ground whilst pulling the new pipe (20) after it. The frame (4) is adjustable (9) in height and is supported at ground level (6) by the arm (7). The foot (2) bears against the side of the hole (3) to counter reaction force. The wire (17) passes round the disc (16) and is wrapped around the drum (13). Hydraulic pistons extend from the cylinders (12) to lift the drum (13) and cable (17). The ratchet and pawl (14) prevent the cable from unwinding.
