Abstract

The hose (10) is secured to a bank (7) so as temporarily to increase its height. An apron (11) on the hose is fixed to the bank, etc., the hose being filled with a medium whose specific gravity is less than that of water. A supporting wall (9) is provided on the landward side of the hose, and the width of the apron is such that at high water level the hose bears against the top part of the wall, above which it partly protrudes. A housing (6) extending along the bank can accommodate the hose when not in use, having a water inlet via which it is filled at high water level lifting the hose out in the process. Supports (9) can be provided for the hose at very high levels, and on the landward side.
