Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for producing amino acid-based surfactants, especially N-acyl amino acids and salts thereof, using glycerides as the main raw materials with long-chain C6-C22 fatty acids in the presence of suitable catalysts. The initial step is reacting glycerin with fatty acid to form glycerides, and then heating the said reactants; subsequently reacting said glycerides with amino acids in the presence of a suitable catalyst, and then heating the said reactant mixture; cooling the resultant materials and then neutralizing with neutralizing agents; washing the resulting solid substance with solvent to remove the unreacted materials and by products; and recovering the N-acyl amino acid salt surfactant in the final resultant mass.
