Abstract
A process for the transformation of non-elemental mercury contained in the compounds of a gaseous or liquid hydrocarbon feed into elemental mercury, in which the transformation of the mercury contained in the compounds of said feed into elemental mercury comprises passing said feed into a conversion unit (2) at a target temperature and for a fixed dwell time which is adapted to said target temperature in a manner such that at least 90% by weight of the non-elemental mercury contained in the compounds of said feed is converted into elemental mercury, said transformation step being carried out in the absence of hydrogen and in the absence of a catalyst.
