The present innovation relates to basecoat compositions for automotive applications. The waterborne basecoat compositions comprise epoxidised/methyl-grafted natural latex mixture and acrylic-styrene copolymer having a glass transition temperature of 5?C or less. These compositions of basecoat provide a more environmentally friendly automotive paint which is derived from a bio-based resource relative to conventional paint in an automotive basecoat/topcoat system. Application as an automotive basecoat provides adequate vibration damping and sound absorbing properties. In a sprayable form, the basecoat composition can be applied as an automotive restorative paint for body repair and in the paint shop of the automotive industry which potentially reduce atmospheric pollution and fire hazards caused using volatile solvents.
