The present invention relates to a novel solvent based on renewable resources for capturing an acid gas from a multicomponent gaseous stream. The novel solvent is an aqueous mixture, comprising 0 to 25 wt. % of an amine component selected from a group consisting of alkanolamines such as monoethanolamine (MEA), N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), diglycolamine (DGA), 2-amino-2-methy-1-propanol (AMP) and piperazine (PZ) and 0 to 40 wt. % of an organic component selected from a group consisting of glycerol, choline chloride, N,N-diethylethanol ammonium chloride and derivatives thereof. In addition, the organic component derived from a renewable resource. Further, the acid gas from the multicomponent gaseous stream solubilizes in the solvent to obtain an acid gas rich solvent solution. (Figure 1)
