Abstract
The present invention relates generally to a methodology for objective and in vivo assessment of granulation tissue growth during healing of chronic ulcers using digital imaging, whereby said methodology comprising steps of data acquisition (201), pre-processing and ulcer dataset preparation (203), data manipulation to extract haemoglobin-based image (205), classification and segmentation of said extracted haemoglobin-based images (207). The step of data manipulation is using principal component analysis for dataset whitening (704) and independent component analysis (705) is used to extract image of haemoglobin distribution (706) from colour images of chronic ulcers.
