Abstract

[Object] To obtain a personal authentication apparatus that allows the security thereof to be improved as compared to the related art. [Solution] A personal authentication apparatus 100 includes: a detection unit 30 configured to detect at least one of fingerprint information, palm print information, and blood vessel shape information of a hand of a user 90; an extraction unit 41 configured to extract a characteristic point of the user 90 from a detection result of the detection unit 30; a storage unit 42 configured to store the characteristic point extracted by the extraction unit 41, for each person; a personal identification unit 43 configured to compare the characteristic point extracted by the extraction unit 41 to the characteristic point stored in the storage unit 42 and identify the user 90; and a grip 10 configured to be held by the user 90 such that a finger pad 51b of a distal part 51a of a thumb 51 is in contact with an upper end portion 10a and fingers other than the thumb 51 are in contact with a side surface portion 10b. In addition, the grip 10 includes: the detection unit 30; and a first stopper 11 that projects from the upper end portion 10a and is hooked at a first joint 51c of the thumb 51 when the user 90 holds the grip 10.
