An apparatus for separating granular material by colour recognition comprising a first feeder (1) for loading a granule into a first container (2) in connection with a sensing module (7) capable of grading the granule according to its colour and a control valve for discharging the graded granule, the operation of the valve being controlled by a microcontroller (6) which sends a signal for opening of the valve when the grade of the granule is determined; a series of second containers (4) for receiving graded granule from the first container (2); and a second feeder (3) for feeding graded granule to whichever of the second container (4) that is designated to receive the granule of that particular grade.
