Abstract

A desanding system (100) has an elongated vessel (102) that is tilted at a non-zero inclination angle. The vessel (102) has an upper end (108) that tilts downwardly towards a distal end (106) and has a diverging bounding wall (114) so as to define a top wall (118) having a first inclination angle (?) and a bottom wall (122) having a second inclination angle (?) greater than the first inclination angle (?). A fluid inlet interface (142) at the vessel?s upper end (108) discharges a gas stream, having entrained liquids and particulates, into a freeboard portion (164) formed adjacent the top wall (118) above a gas/liquid interface (160) formed below the fluid outlet (142). A cross-sectional area of the freeboard portion (164) causes precipitation of the entrained liquids and particulates therefrom for collection in a belly storage portion (162) formed below the interface (160). A desanded gas stream, being free of a substantial portion of the particulates is removed from the vessel (102) through a fluid outlet (142) adjacent the distal base (112). Figure 7
