Abstract

A lighting device (2) has at least one contact (18, 19) into which a lighting means (3, 4) can be inserted. The contact (18, 19) has electric terminals for supplying the lighting means (3, 4). Provided in the lighting device (2) is an electric or electronic ballast (20) by means of which a suitable electric supply to a fluorescent bulb (3) or light bulb is guaranteed. The aim of the invention is to improve such a lighting device (2) so as to allow a simple changeover between, for example, a fluorescent bulb (3) and an LED (22) lighting means (3, 4) with a number of LEDs (22) without requiring electric or mechanical adjustments to the lighting device (2). This is achieved in that the ballast (20) can be used for a number of serially-connected LEDs (22) of an LED (22) lighting means (3, 4), wherein a current value of the number of LEDs (22) essentially corresponds to a bulb current during operation of the lighting device (2) with a fluorescent bulb (3).
