Abstract

A heating material for converters is provided. The heating material can reduce the generation of C02 derived from fossil resources, has low sulfur content, and can be stably produced in a necessary amount. The heating material for converters is produced in such a way that carbonized product (2) is produced by carbonizing a plant biomass (1), a binder (24) and water (23) are added to the carbonized product (2), and forming is performed. The heating material has a composition of 70% by mass or more fixed carbon, 20% by mass or less volatile matter, and 0.1 % by mass or less sulfur in a moisture-free dry state, the remainder being ash, and moisture in the heating material is separately 5% by mass or less of the mass in the moisture-free dry state.
