Abstract

A diaper (1) includes an absorbent assembly (2) and a side panel (3). The side panel (3) has a fastening tape (4) joined to the side thereof. Elastic members (33) forming the side panel (3) extend in the lateral direction and each have an extensible portion (33e) and an inextensible portion (33n). An inner sheet (31) and an outer sheet (32) forming the side panel (3) gathers to form folds (31f, 32f) each extending in a direction intersecting the elastic members (33) in their portions located on the extensible portions (33e) of the elastic members (33). The fastening tape (4) is folded back until use such that the hook material (41) faces the inner sheet from a portion located on the extensible portions (33e) and having the folds (31f, 32f) to a portion located on the inextensible portions (33n).
