THE INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD FOR ISOLATING LONG-EMITTING OPTICAL NETWORK UNITS (ONUS) IN GIGABIT PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK (GPON) SYSTEM. AN OPTICAL LINE TERMINAL (OLT) TURNS OFF THE LASERS OF ALL ONUS IN THE GPON SYSTEM ONE BY ONE AND THEN DELAYS TO TURN ON THE LASERS IN THE MODE OF SENDING A PHYSICAL LAYER OPERATION, ADMINISTRATION AND MAINTENANCE (PLAOM) MESSAGE; AFTER THE LASER OF AN ONU IS TURNED OFF, THE OLT QUERIES THE SERIAL NUMBERS (SNS) OF OTHER ONUS, ACQUIRES THE JUDGING RESULT WHETHER THE CURRENT ONU IS A LONG-EMITTING ONU ON THE BASIS OF THE FACT WHETHER THE OLT CAN RECEIVE THE SERIAL NUMBERS REPLIED BY OTHER ONUS WHEN THE LASER OF THE CURRENT ONU IS TURNED OFF; AND WHEN THE JUDGING RESULT SHOWS THAT THE ONU IS A LONG-EMITTING ONU, THE LASER OF THE ONU IS PERMANENTLY TURNED OFF IN THE MODE OF SENDING THE PLAOM MESSAGE UNTIL THE JUDGMENT ON ALL ONUS IS FINISHED. BY USING THE METHOD OF THE INVENTION, THE LONG-EMITTING ONUS CAN BE ISOLATED IN THE GPON SYSTEM, THEREBY ENSURING THE SERVICE SAFETY OF THE GPON SYSTEM.
