A LIFTING APPARATUS (30) ADAPTED TO VERTICALLY LIFT A SAFETY SCREEN ASSEMBLY (5) HAVING A SUPPORT STRUCTURE (10) HAVING SPACED-APART FRONT AND REAR WALLS (17, 19) AND A MESH SAFETY PANEL (11) ATTACHED TO A REAR WALL (19) OF THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE (10), THE LIFTING APPARATUS (30) INCLUDING: A LIFTING ARM (35) INCLUDING A BASE (36) IN USE MOUNTED ADJACENT THE FRONT WALL (17) OF THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE (10), THE POWERED LIFTING ARM (35) INCLUDING AN EXTENSIBLE ARM (37) INCLUDING A HEAD END (49); AND A LIFTING ATTACHMENT (50) DISPOSED ON THE HEAD END (49) OF THE EXTENSIBLE ARM (37) WHEREIN THE LIFTING ATTACHMENT (50) IS ADAPTED TO INTERENGAGE WITH A FRONT WALL (17) OF THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE (10) SO THAT THE EXTENSIBLE ARM (37) IS SUBSTANTIALLY VERTICAL WHEN INTERENGAGED WITH THE FRONT WALL (17) OF THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE (10).
