Abstract

DESCRIBED HEREIN ARE FLEXIBLE IMPLANTABLE OCCLUDING DEVICES (30, 60, 100 3000) THAT CAN, FOR EXAMPLE, NAVIGATE THE TORTUOUS VESSELS (13, 69) OF THE NEUROVASCULATURE. THE OCCLUDING DEVICES (30, 60, 100, 3000) CAN ALSO CONFORM TO THE SHAPE OF THE TORTUOUS VESSELS (13, 69) OF THE VASCULATURE. IN SOME EMBODIMENTS, THE OCCLUDING DEVICES (30, 60, 100, 3000) CAN DIRECT BLOOD FLOW WITHIN A VESSEL (13, 69) AWAY FROM AN ANEURYSM (10) OR LIMIT BLOOD FLOW TO THE ANEURYSM (10). SOME EMBODIMENTS DESCRIBE METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR ADJUSTING, ALONG A LENGTH OF THE DEVICE (30, 60, 100, 3000), THE POROSITY OF THE OCCLUDING DEVICE (30, 60, 100, 3000). IN SOME EMBODIMENTS, THE OCCLUDING DEVICES (30, 60, 100, 3000) ALLOW ADEQUATE BLOOD FLOW TO BE PROVIDED TO ADJACENT STRUCTURES SUCH THAT THOSE STRUCTURES, WHETHER THEY ARE BRANCH VESSELS OR OXYGEN- DEMANDING TISSUES, ARE NOT DEPRIVED OF THE NECESSARY BLOOD FLOW. A PLURALITY OF STENTS (66), FOR EXAMPLE AT LEAST PARTIALLY OVERLAPPING, CAN BE USED. SOME EMBODIMENTS DESCRIBE VARIOUS METHODS FOR CONFIRMING THE OCCLUSION OF AN ANEURYSM (10) OR FOR DISLODGING MATERIAL FROM A VESSEL WALL.
