A METHOD FOR REDUCING FREE FATTY ACID CONTENT OF SLUDGE PALM OIL FOR PRODUCING BIODIESEL (100) COMPRISES THE STEPS OF FIRSTLY, PREHEATING THE SLUDGE PALM OIL (101). NEXT, ESTERIFYING THE PREHEATED SLUDGE PALM OIL (102) WITH A LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT ALCOHOL IN THE PRESENCE OF ACID CATALYST AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF 40 °C TO 60 °C AND FOR A TIME SUFFICIENT TO REDUCE THE HIGH FREE FATTY ACID CONTENT TO A MAXIMUM OF ABOUT 2 %WT. THEN, SEPARATING THE ESTERIFIED SLUDGE PALM OIL (103) AND SUBJECT TO TRANSESTERIFICATION (104) IN THE PRESENCE OF ALKALINE CATALYST TO FORM A CRUDE BIODIESEL AND CRUDE GLYCEROL. SUBSEQUENTLY, SEPARATING THE CRUDE BIODIESEL (105), WASHING SAID CRUDE BIODIESEL WITH WATER AT A TEMPERATURE OF ABOUT 50 °C TO 70 °C (106) AND FOLLOWED BY DEHYDRATING SAID WASHED BIODIESEL (108) TO FORM A PURE BIODIESEL.
