A BATCH PROCESS OF OBTAINING BASE OIL FROM SPENT LUBRICANT, OF WHICH IT IS PERFORMED UNDER NON-SUPERCRITICAL CONDITION AND TEMPERATURE, WHEREBY THE SEQUENTIAL STEPS INVOLVED ARE SOLVENT EXTRACTION PROCESS WHERE EXTRACTION OF BASE OIL FROM SPENT LUBRICANT IS PERFORMED USING SUITABLE SOLVENTS; FILTRATION OF THE UNPOLISHED OIL/SOLVENT COMPOSITE TO REMOVE ANY REMAINING SLUDGE PARTICLES FROM SAID SOLVENT EXTRACTION PROCESS; RECOVERING OF SAID SOLVENT FROM THE OIL/SOLVENT COMPOSITE; ADSORPTION PROCESS IN WHICH UNWANTED ODOUR AND COLOUR OF THE RECOVERED BASE OIL ARE REMOVED; AND SEPARATION OF THE OIL/SLUDGE MIXTURE FROM SAID ADSORPTION PROCESS TO REMOVE ANY REMAINING SLUDGE.
