Abstract
THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A CONTROLLABLE TOTAL DEGRADABLE BIAXIALLY ORIENTATED POLYPROPYLENE (BOPP) ARTICLE, METHODS OF CONTROLLING THE DEGRADATION OF BOPP ARTICLES AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF. THE CONTROLLABLE TOTAL DEGRADABLE BOPP ARTICLE INCLUDES A POLYPROPYLENE MATERIAL AND A PRODEGRADANT. DEGRADATION OF THE BOPP ARTICLE IS DEPENDENT ON A PREDETERMINED AMOUNT OF A PRODEGRADANT CONTAINED IN THE BOPP ARTICLE. DEGRADATION OF THE BOPP ARTICLE IS INITIATED BY LIGHT, ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT, THERMAL CONDITIONS OR A COMBINATION THEREOF. PREFERABLY, THE DEGRADATION OF THE BOPP ARTICLE INCLUDES A BIODEGRADATION PHASE COMPRISING MICRO-ORGANISM ACTIVITIES. THE CONTROLLABLE TOTAL DEGRADABLE BOPP ARTICLE HAS SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME PROPERTIES AS TRADITIONAL BOPP ARTICLES AND DEGRADES INTO NON HAZARDOUS COMPONENTS.
