TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT MAGNET [62(62N,62S)] TYPE ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINE AS A STARTER/GENERATOR (1) CAPABLE AFFORDING A LARGE DRIVING TORQUE WHEN THE ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINE IS ALLOWED TO FUNCTION AS A STARTER MOTOR AND MINIMIZING A DRIVEN TORQUE WHEN ALLOWED TO FUNCTION AS A GENERATOR; AND TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT MAGNET [62(62N,62S)] TYPE ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINE WHEREIN THE RATIO (WMG:WSP) OF THE WIDTH, WMG, OF A PERMANENT MAGNET [62(62N,62S)] TO THE WIDTH,WSP, OF AN INTERPOLE (613) IS OPTIMIZED, AS WELL AS A DRIVE UNIT FOR THE SAME WHEREIN THE RELATION BETWEEN THE INTERPOLE (613) WIDTH, WSP, AND AN ADVANCE ANGLE OF A POWER SUPPLY TIMING IS OPTIMIZED.(SOLVING MEANS) IN A PERMANENT MAGNET[62(62N,62S)] TYPE ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINE WHEREIN A ROTOR YOKE (61) OF A GENERALLY CYLINDRICAL SHAPE ADAPTED TO ROTATE ALONG AN OUTER PERIPHERY OF A STATOR (50) HAS A PLURALITY OF MAGNET INSERTING HOLES IN A CIRCUMFERENTIAL DIRECTION THEREOF ALTERNATELY WITH INTERPOLES(613) AND PERMANENT MAGNETS[62(62N,62S)] ARE INSERTED INTO THE MAGNET INSERTING HOLES RESPECTIVELY, THE OPENINGS (611) ARE EACH PROVIDED WITH A MAIN OPENING (611) FOR INSERTION THEREIN OF EACH PERMANENT MAGNET [62(62N,62S)] AND SECOND CLEARANCES (614) EXTENDING WITH A PERDETERMINED WIDTH (W) TOWARD A CENTRAL PORTION FROM BOTH CIRCUMFERENTIAL ENDS OF THE MAIN OPENING(611), AND THE RATIO (H/W) OF A RESIDUAL THICKNESS (H) OF THE ROTOR YOKE (61) AT THE TIP OF EACH SECOND CLEARANCE 614 TO THE WIDTH (W) OF THE SLIT (614) IS SET SO AS TO SATISFY THE RELATIONSHIP OF 0.3 ≤RESIDUAL THICKNESS (H) /SLIT (612,614) WIDTH (W) ≤ 0.7.
