Abstract
THERE IS PROVIDED A METHOD BY WHICH MERCURY AND MERCURY COMPOUNDS CAN BE EFFICIENTLY ELIMINATED FROM LIQUID HYDROCARBONS CONTAINING BOTH MERCURY AND SULFUR COMPOUNDS, IN PARTICULAR, MERCAPTAN, REGARDLESS OF THE PRESENCE OF THE SULFUR COMPOUNDS.ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, A METHOD OF ELIMINATING MERCURY AND MERCURY COMPOUNDS FROM LIQUID HYDROCARBONS COMBINING A HYDROGENATION TREATMENT AND AN ADSORPTION TREATMENT WHEREIN A LIQUID HYDROCARBON CONTAINING MERCURY, MERCURY COMPOUNDS AND SULFUR COMPOUNDS IS SUBJECTED TO HYDROGENATION TREATMENT TO ELIMINATE A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF SULFUR COMPOUNDS, AFTER WHICH THE HYDROGENATION-TREATED PRODUCT IS CONTACTED WITH A MERCURY ADSORBENT COMPRISED OF A POROUS CARRIER OR A POROUS CARRIER HAVING ALKALI METAL SULFIDES AND/OR ALKALINE EARTH METAL SULFIDES CARRIED THEREUPON. ACCORDING TO THIS MERCURY ELIMINATION METHOD, THE REDISSOLUTION OF MERCURY BY SULFUR COMPOUNDS CAN BE PREVENTED, AND MERCURY AND MERCURY COMPOUNDS CAN BE ELIMINATED ALMOST COMPLETELY OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.
