AN ENERGY ABSORBING POLE (24) WHICH COMPRISES AN ELONGATE TUBE HAVING A SERIES OF SLITS OR SLOTS IN THE WALL OF THE TUBE, THE SLITS OR SLOTS BEING ARRANGED IN FIRST AND SECOND PAIRS OF LINES (27,28) EXTENDING SUBSTANTIALLY LONGITUDINALLY ALONG THE WALL OF THE TUBE, WHEREIN THE FIRST PAIRS OF LINES (27) ALTERNATE WITH THE SECOND PAIRS OF LINES (28) AND WHEREIN THE SECOND PAIRS OF LINES EXTEND TO A GREATER DISTANCE ALONG THE WALL OF THE TUBE THAN THE FIRST PAIRS OF LINES.(FIG. 1)
