Abstract

METHOD FOR SHORTENING THE ACCESS TIME TO A TARGET POINT OF A DATA TRACK OF A ROTATING DISK.WHEN SKIPPING TRACKS, IF THE SCANNING DEVICE OF A PLAYBACK DEVICE TRAVELS RAPIDLY OVER MANY DATA TRACKS ON A DISK, ONLY A TRACK CAN BE JUMPED ONTO EXACTLY. HOWEVER, UNTIL THE TARGET POINT ON THE TARGET TRACK IS STRUCK BY THE LIGHT BEAM OF THE SCANNING DEVICE, IN THE WORST CASE, A WAITING TIME OF ONE REVOLUTION OF THE DISK (CD) MUST OCCUR.WITH A COMPACT DISK PLAYER,A CLV SYSTEM,THE ADDITIONAL WAITING TIME IS 120 MS TO 330 MS. IN ORDER TO SHORTEN THE ACCESS TIME, THE RESPECTIVE ROTATIONAL SPEED OF THE DISK WHICH IS NECESSARY IN ORDER THAT THE TARGET POINT (P2) IS STRUCK UPON REACHING THE TARGET TRACK (S2) IS CALCULATED FROM THE NUMBER A OF TRACKS LYING BETWEEN THE LAST DATA TRACK SCANNED (S1) AND THE TARGET TRACK (S2), THE ANGULAR POSITIONS OF THE LAST POINT SCANNED (P1) ON THE LAST DATA TRACK SCANNED (S1) AND THE TARGET POINT (P2) ON THE TARGET TRACK (S2), AS WELL AS THE LENGTH OF THE SKIP TIME. PLAYBACK AND/OR RECORDING DEVICES EXHIBITING CONTACT-LESS SCANNING OF A ROTATING DISK, FOR EXAMPLE, COMPACT DISK PLAYERS, VIDEO DISK PLAYERS, DRAW DISK PLAYERS OR MAGNETO-OPTICAL APPARATUS. (FIG. 1).
