Abstract

RADIO SIGNALS ARE TRANSMITTED OVER A FADING RADIO CHANNEL AND ARE FILTERED AND SAMPLED IN A RECEIVER TO OBTAIN A DIGITAL SIGNAL (Y (N)). A CHANNEL EQUALIZER (5) HAS AN EQUALIZING FILTER (CEST) IN WHICH A CHANNEL ESTIMATE (H (N/N-L)) IS FORMED WITH THE AID OF A KNOW SYNCHRONIZING SEQUENCE. A VITERBI ANALYZER (VIT) DECIDES SYMBOLS (D (N-L) WITH THE AID OF THE CHANNEL ESTIMATE. AN ESTIMATED TIME DERIVATIVE OF THE CHANNEL ESTIMATE (H (H/N-L)) IS FORMED AND ADAPTED WITH THE AID OF THE DECIDED SYMBOLS (D (N-L)). THE CHANNEL ESTIMATE (H (N/N-L)) IS ADAPTED TO THE RADIO CHANNEL BY THE DERIVATIVE ESTIMATE AND THE DECIDED SYMBOLS (D (N-L)). IN THE EVENT OF FADING WITH RAPIDLY VARVING SIGNAL STRENGTH (Y (N)), THE CHANNEL ESTIMATE (H (N/N-L)) IS ADAPTED SLOWLY AND IS PREDICTED MAINLY THROUGH THE DERIVATIVE ESTIMATE WHICH VARIES RELATIVELY EVENLY. THE DIGITAL SIGNAL (Y (N)) IS STORED IN A MEMORY (M) AND AN INITIAL VALUE IS FORMED FOR YHE DERIVATIVE ESTIMATE AS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO KNOW CHANNEL ESTIMATES DIVIDED BY A TIME THEREBETWEEN. THE KNOW CHANNEL ESTIMATE MAY BELONG TO TWO SEPARATE SYNCHRONIZING SEQUENCES OR MAY BELONG TO ONE SYNCHROZING SEQUENCE AND A FADING TIME POINT IN WHICH THE CHANNEL ESTIMATE HAS ZERO VALUE. (FIGURE 7)
