Abstract

AN ABSORBENT ARTICLE HAVING FRONT, REAR AND SIDE SURFACE WHICH IS GENERALLY RACTANGULAR IN PLAN VIEW AND WHICH COMPRISES A LIQUID RETENTIVE ABSORBENT MEMBER ENCLOSED BY A FLEXIBLE SHEET, A LIQUID IMPERMEABLE ANTI LEAK-SHEET OVER THE REAR SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE AND INCORPORATING A FLEXIBLE FIXING TAB EXTENDING FROM EACH LATERAL EDGE OF THE ARTICLE AND LOCATED AT A POSITION DISPLACED IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ARTICLE, WHEREIN THE SURFACE SHEET IS PERMEABLE OVER PART OF THE FRONT SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE AND IMPERMEABLE OVER THE REAR SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE AND, AT LEAST AT POSITIONS WHICH CORESPOND TO THOSE OF THE TABS, IS IMPERMEABLE ALSO OVER THE SIDE SURFACES WITH EACH OF THE IMPERMEABLE SIDE SURFACE REGIONS EXTENDING OVER AN ADJACENT EDGE PORTION OF THE FRONT SURFACE.(FIGURE 1)
