IMPROVED LAUNDRY BAR FOR USE IN THE HANDWASHING OF FABRICS IS DISCLOSED, WHICH COMPRISES FROM 15% PREFERABLY 20% UP TO 45% BY WEIGHT OF AN ANIONIC DETERGENT-ACTIVE MATERIAL, FROM 5% TO 60% BY WEIGHT OF DETERGENCY BUILDER MATERIAL, AND FROM ABOUT 5% TO 25% BY WEIGHT OF AN ALKALI METAL SULPHITE .PREFERRED BUILDER MATERIAL IS A MIXTURE COMPRISING SODIUM CARBONATE .PREFERRED ALKALI METAL SULPHITE IS SODIUM SULPHITE. THE LAUNDRY BAR SHOWS EXCELLENT BLEACH STABILITY ON STORAGE AND DURING USE, AND IMPROVED CLEANING PERFORMANCE.
