Abstract

A ROTARY CONTROL HAVING A POP-OUT COLLAR, TO BE USED IN ASSOCIATION WITH APPARATUS IN WHICH CONTROL IS EFFECTED BY MEANS OF A ROTATABLE SPINDLE, FOR EXAMPLE, THE TIMER MECHANISM OF A WASHING MACHINE.ONE EMBODIMENT COMPRISES A COLLAR 4, A PUSH BUTTON 6 AND A HOUSING 10.PRESSURE ON THE BUTTON 6 ALLOWS THE COLLAR TO POP OUT UNDER ACTION OF THE SPRING 34. IN THIS POSITION THE TWO SETS OF RATCHET TEETH,72,22 MESH,AND ROTATION OF THE COLLAR 4 CAUSES ROTATION OF THE HOUSING 10 AND THUS OF THE SPINDLE 30. IF THE COLLAR IS ROTATED BACKWARDS THE TEETH SLIDE OVER EACH OTHER AND DO NOT DRIVE THE SPINDLE. THE COLLAR IS PUSHED BACK INTO ITS RETRACTED POSITION AFTER USE. (FIG 5)
