Description

CLOSER FOR DOOR AND MOUNT FOR ASSEMBLY Field of the Invention This invention relates generally to door closers and more particularly to mounting brackets for door closers. Background of the invention In the current state of the art door closers in the commercial market are attached to the door or the structure of the door using very similar methods. All of them use fasteners to directly attach the door closer to the door or the structure of. the door. Current door closers typically stall or drive the adjustment screws into the door closers so that during speed adjustment the user can not remove the speed adjustment screws. Staking or nailing requires an additional manufacturing process and, in the event that a regulation screw needs to be removed, it is required that the screw holes be widened in order to remove the adjustment screws.
One problem with current door closers is that after they are drilled or drilled, REF .: 32039 - - mounting holes in the door, the door closer must be held in place as fasteners are inserted and tightened. A door closer can weigh as much as 3.7 to 4.6 kg (8 to 10 pounds). This heavy weight must be supported while fasteners are tightened. This can make installation difficult.
The above illustrates known limitations that exist in the present door closers. Thus, it is evident that it would be advantageous to provide an alternative directed to overcome one or more of the limitations set forth above. Accordingly, an appropriate alternative is provided which includes features completely described hereinafter.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In one aspect of the present invention, this is accomplished by providing a door closer; a mounting bracket adapted to be attached to a mounting surface; non-manual means for temporarily holding the door closer to the mounting bracket - without additional external support; and means for tightening for permanent securing of the door closer to the mounting surface.
The foregoing and other aspects will be apparent from the following detailed description of the invention considered in conjunction with the figures of the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The FIGURES show a mounting bracket, free of hands, for use with a door closer. The hand-free mounting bracket fits temporarily to the door closer in two locations (two door closer retention members) without the use of tools to allow the installer to place the door closer on the mounting bracket and then letting go of the door closer (the "hands free" feature of the present invention) and then, using a screwdriver or similar tool, squeezing the door closer to the mounting bracket and / or the door surface or structure of the door to permanently join the door closer. The hand-free feature allows the installer to temporarily attach the door closer to the mounting bracket without having to hold tools in his hands while attaching the door closer to the mounting bracket or without having to hold the door closer with the mounting bracket or the door with one hand while reaching with your other hand a tool to complete the union of the door closer to the door or to the structure of the door.
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of the door closer 10 with a cylindrical body 12 and its relation to the mounting bracket 50. One end of the door closer 10 has an edge 14 (shown in Figures 4 and 5) which it fits with an angle bracket or hook portion 60 at one end of the mounting bracket 50. The other end of the door closer 10 includes a thread passage 18 (shown in Figures 5 and 7) that fits with the screw 58 in the mounting bracket 50. The screw 58 is threaded or screwed into the interior of the threaded joint 54. Preferably, the threaded joint 54 has an angle (i.e., it is greater than -O degrees and less than 90 degrees). so that when the screw 58 is tightened, the door closer 10 is pulled in both directions, towards the flat surface 52 of the mounting bracket and towards the hook 60. Also, preferably, the thread passage 18 is opened in a side (shown as 20 in Figure 7) and have e an angled surface 22 which is at right angles to the threaded shaft 58.
This design of door closer 10 and mounting bracket 50 allows a "hands-free" installation of the door closer 10. First, the four holes for the mounting bracket 50 are punched into either the door or the door frame. door. Then, the much lighter mounting bracket is attached to the door or door structure using fasteners (not shown) inserted in the mounting holes 70a, 70b, 74a, and 74b. The edge 14 of the door closer is inserted into the interior of the hook 60 and the other end of the door closer 10 rotates downwards on the screw 58, with shown in figure 1 (the slot to pass 20 in the threaded passage 18 allows the door closer to be joined while the screw 58 joins the threaded or screw connection 54). The hook 60 and the edge or lip 14 in cooperation with the screw 58 and the threaded passage 18 hold the door closer freely against the mounting bracket 50 until the screw 58 can be rotated to tighten the door closer 10. to the mounting bracket 50.
In its preferred embodiment, the mounting bracket 50 consists of a member similar to a rectangular blade 52 with the threaded or screw connection 54 at one end and the hook 60 with the adjusting screw fastener 62 extending from the hook 60 at the other end (shown in figures 2 and 3).
Figures 8 to 10 show a second embodiment of a "hands-free" mounting bracket 110 for use with a door closer 140 (shown in Figures 9 and 10). The mounting bracket 110 includes a base 117 which has a plurality of mounting holes 112 which is used to attach the mounting bracket 110 to either a door or a door structure using screws or other fasteners. The mounting bracket 110 has an end tab 113 extending from the base 117 at a right angle to the base 17. The end tab 113 has a plurality of pin holes 114. The misalignment of the end tab 113 is a clip or "spring" metal pin 115. Preferably, the metal pin or clip is formed of a spring steel, although other materials may be used so that the material allows the clip 115 to move or flex elastically to allow a portion of the closer to Door 140 is attached to clip 115 as the door closer 140 is attached to mounting bracket 110.
In practice, the mounting bracket is attached to the door or door structure using fasteners through the mounting holes 112. The door closer 140, which has the pins 146 extending from the door closer, is attached to the mounting bracket 110 by 1) pushing the door closer 140 onto the clip 115 of the mounting bracket, which allows the clip 115 to "bite" on a portion of the spring tube 144 of the door closer 140 and then 2) slide the pins 146 into the pin holes 114 and into the mounting bracket 110. This 1 - now temporarily holds the door closer 140 in the mounting bracket 110, ie, "without the hands". The installation of the door closer can be completed by attaching the door closer 140 to the door or door structure with fasteners installed using the mounting holes 142. The mounting bracket 110 uses two spatially spaced points to fit to temporarily secure the door. door closer 140 in the mounting bracket 110. The shown in figures 8-12 is the preferred embodiment of this second embodiment, which uses the pins 146. Other means may be used to fit the door closer 140 with the bracket 110, such as protrusions from the door closer body.
Four additional alternative embodiments of a mounting bracket 110, use two points to fit between the mounting bracket 110 and the door closer 140, as shown in Figures 13A, 13B, 13C and 13D. These four embodiments use the door closer 146 and the mounting bracket pin holes 114 described above for the first door closer retention member. The mounting bracket - - HO ', shown in FIG. 13A, uses one or more foldout tabs 151 that extend from the mounting bracket 110'. The door closer 146 slides inside the pin holes 114. The tabs 151 are then bent over the adjacent portions of the door closer 140, thereby temporarily holding the door closer 140 in the door closer. 110 'assembly until the installation can be completed. The mounting bracket 110", shown in Figure 13B, uses a tongue portion 152 extending from the base 117. The tongue portion 152 includes a bite portion 153 having a shape that allows the tongue portion 152 to flex or flex. "bite" on an adjacent portion of the door closer 140. Once the tongue portion 152 has "bit" on the door closer 140, the door closer 140 is temporarily retained on the mounting bracket 110"until the installation can be completed. The mounting bracket 10 '' ', shown in Figure 13C, uses a movable pin 154 which fits into a corresponding hole in the door closer 140. After the door closer 140 has been fixed on the bracket of assembly 10 '' ', the pin 154 slides into the corresponding hole in the door closer 140, thereby temporarily retaining the door closer 140 on the mounting bracket 110"" until the installation can be completed. The mounting bracket 110"", shown in FIG. 13D, uses a pair of retaining brackets 157 which extend from the bracket end tab 113 of the assembly 110"" and grasps the sides of the closer for door 140. Retaining brackets 157 can also be flexed, similarly to tongue portions 152 or clip 115, to facilitate attachment of door closer 140 to mounting bracket 110"".
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known to the applicant, to implement said invention is that which is clear from the manufacture of the objects to which it refers.
Having described the invention as above, property is claimed as contained in the following:
