Description
ABSORBENT ARTICLE WRAPPING COMPRISING A SIDE-FINGER CLOSURE COVER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an absorbent article individually packaged by a wrapper comprising a main wrap sheet for the absorbent article and a fin fastener cover for the tab fins. More particularly, the present invention relates to an absorbent article comprising a pair of first fins and a pair of second fins spaced apart from the first fins in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article, wherein each fin comprises fin fasteners, and the fasteners of Fin are covered by the fin fastener cover.
BACKGROUND
An absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin comprising a pair of fins, which extend laterally out of an absorbent means, is well known. One type of such absorbent article comprises a pair of fins extending laterally outward from a central region of both longitudinal side edges of an absorbent means. The fins are intended to be folded around the edges of an undergarment of the wearer in the crotch region. Therefore, during use the fins are disposed between the edges of the wearer's undergarment in the crotch region and the wearer's thighs. Commonly, the fins are provided with fin fasteners such as an adhesive for securing the fins to the underside of the wearer's undergarment. The fins serve at least two purposes. First, the fins prevent the exudates, which would otherwise stain the edges of the undergarment, from doing this. Second, the fins help to stabilize the towel from moving away from the position chosen by the user. This is especially so when the fins are attached to the underside of the undergarment. The fins of these sanitary napkins can be folded on the side of the top sheet or the side of the back sheet, to conserve space during the packing, that is, the period during the manufacture of the sanitary napkin and its first use attempted by the user. At the time of first use by the user, the fins are often unfolded to facilitate the placement of the sanitary napkin in the wearer's undergarment. The fin fasteners of the bent fins are normally covered by a fin fastener cover so as not to inadvertently adhere to each other or to another part of the product before the sanitary pad is used. When the fins are folded on the side of the upper sheet, the fin fasteners of the fins face outward and are covered by the cover of the fin fastener thus bridging the fins together on the upper sheet. Japanese Patent Publication H5-293 139 accessible to the public, published on November 9, 1993; Japanese patent publication H6-78 1993 accessible to the public, published March 24, 1994; and the publication of the Japanese utility model H6-26 1835 accessible to the public, published on April 12, 1994, disclose sanitary napkins having fins that are folded on the upper sheet and the fin fasteners, which are covered by a cover of fin bra. The sanitary napkins disclosed therein further comprise a main fastener for securing the sanitary nap inside the wearer's undergarment. The main bra is also covered by a main bra cover. Therefore, when the sanitary napkin is used, the wearer must remove both the flap fastener cover and the main fastener cover. The user should then discard the various covers of the bra to prevent them from becoming waste. Attempts have been made to facilitate the removal of a fin fastener cover and a main cover of the sanitary napkin holder. The publication of the Japanese utility model H5-9526 accessible to the public on February 9, 1993 and the publication of the Japanese utility model H5-9529 accessible to the public, published on February 9, 1993, disclose sanitary napkins comprising a sanitary napkin main body with a main body fastener, fins with fin fasteners and a fastener cover for covering the fin fasteners and the main fastener. The cover of! The fastener comprises in portions the fin fastener cover of the main cover portion of the fastener which are connected to each other. Therefore, as the portions of the main cover of the main body fastener of the sanitary napkin are removed, the cover portion of the flapper of the vanes is also removed. However, this publication does not disclose the provisions of the absorbent articles having a wrapping for individually packing the absorbent article. Other attempts have been made to facilitate the removal of a flap fastener cover and / or a main cover from the main body fastener of sanitary napkins in connection with the removal of a wrap to individually pack the sanitary napkin. The publication of the Japanese utility model H6-26,833 accessible to the public, published on April 12, 1994, discloses a sanitary nap comprising a sanitary napkin main body with a main fastener, fins with fin fastener, a wrapping for packing the Main body of the sanitary napkin, a fin fastener cover and a main fastener cover. The main cover of the fastener is connected to a portion of the casing such that the main cover of the fastener is removed from the main body as the sanitary pad main body is separated from the casing. However, the fin clamp cover must also be removed from the fins. Japanese utility H7-39,820 accessible to the public, published on July 18, 1995, discloses a sanitary napkin comprising a sanitary napkin main body having an upper sheet, a back sheet, and an absorbent core. The sanitary napkin also comprises a portion of which fins are folded around the edges of an undergarment of the wearer in the crotch region when the sanitary napkin is used. The adhesive layers provided with the main body and the fins are covered by an adhesive layer cover, which may comprise a wrapping for individually packing the sanitary napkin. The fins are bent towards the interior of the main body. The adhesive layer covering covering the adhesive layers of the main body extends beyond the longitudinal sides and the transverse edges of the main body. The adhesive layer cover extends beyond a transverse end and the extending portion of the adhesive layer cover is bent inward to cover the adhesive layers of the fins. The Japanese utility model Hd-75,446 accessible to the public, published on July 18, 1995, discloses a health facility comprising a main body! of sanitary napkin and a pair of flaps extending laterally outward from both sides in the longitudinal direction of the sanitary napkin. The flaps are folded on one side facing the body of the sanitary napkin before the sanitary napkin is used, and are folded around the edges of the underwear in the crotch region when the sanitary napkin is used. A side facing the garment of the sanitary napkin provided with a layer of adhesive is in place by a detachably treated envelope. The wrapped sanitary towel is folded together with the wrap around a fold line. This publication also discloses a packaging structure for the sanitary napkin where a part of the wrap covers the adhesive layers of the fins.
Primarily, the transverse edge of the wrap extends beyond the end edge of the sanitary napkin and is bent towards the adhesive layers of the tabs, which are bent over the top sheet. European patent publication EP 0 750 896 A2 published on January 2, 1997 discloses a sanitary napkin comprising a towel body and a pair of flaps extending from transversely opposite lateral edges of the body of the towel. The body of the towel is folded longitudinally therein in a 3 layer overlap relationship and the fins are also folded over an upper surface of the body of the towel. Release sheets are removably attached to the adhesive areas provided on the back surfaces of the towel body and the fins, respectively. A wrapping sheet is also folded together with the body of the towel to wrap the body of the towel as well as the fins, wherein the respective peel-off sheets are fixedly attached even to the interior surface of the wrapping sheet as such. so that the wrapping sheet and the release sheet can be separated in the form of an integrated strip-shaped sheet of the towel when the towel is removed from the wrapping sheet. These publications, however, do not disclose the provisions of the absorbent articles having another pair of fins spaced apart from the fins in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article. Another type of an absorbent article comprises a pair of fins which extend laterally outward from a rear region of both lateral longitudinal edges of an absorbent means. The fins of the second type of an absorbent article are intended to remain extended in a posterior region of the inside of the wearer's undergarment. In use, the fins are arranged between the wearer's hip and the wearer's undergarment. The fins of the second type of an absorbent article also prevent exudates that would otherwise stain the posterior region of the wearer's undergarment. The fins may also be provided with fin fasteners such as adhesive for affixing the fins to the interior of the wearer's undergarment to stabilize the sanitary towel of the displacement in the posterior region of the wearer's undergarment. The fin fasteners may be covered by a fin fastener cover to prevent inadvertent adhesion to each other or to another part of the product before the sanitary napkin is used. Japanese Patent Laid-Open Publication Hd-224,269 published September 3, 1996, discloses an individually packaged sanitary can. The sanitary napkin comprises a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent core, a pair of back fin portions having adhesive layers on the backsides in the longitudinal direction of the sanitary napkin, and a main layer. of adhesive that covered by a leading release paper. The rear portions of the fin are bent over the side of the top sheet in such a way that the adhesive layers of the rear flap portions face upwards and a flap release paper is fixed to the adhesive layers. A wrapping is attached to the non-peelable surface of the main release paper using a first adhesive. The sanitary napkin is folded between regions together with the wrapping in such a way that the flap stripping paper faces towards the rear sheet of the front portion of the sanitary napkin. The wrapping covering the front portion of the sanitary napkin is attached to the surface of the peel-off paper removably using a second adhesive. This publication, however, does not disclose the provisions for absorbent articles having another pair of fins separate from the fins in the longitudinal direction of the absorbent article. Although the absorbent articles of the prior art, such as sanitary napkins, have addressed some of the problems of achieving an individually packaged absorbent article, these have not addressed the problems to the extent of or in the manner of the present invention. Therefore, a main object of the present invention is to provide an individually packaged, improved absorbent article.

As shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3, the invention comprises an envelope 78 for a disposable absorbent article, particularly a sanitary napkin 20. The sanitary napkin 20 is used to collect vaginal discharges, such as menses, and to avoid staining the user's clothes for these downloads. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the sanitary napkin 20 basically comprises a main body portion 22 and first fins 24 and second fins 25. the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 may have a fastener, such as a pressure sensitive adhesive fastener 74 thereon for securing the main body portion 22 to the wearer's undergarment. The first fins 24 each preferably have first fasteners thereon, such as a pressure sensitive adhesive fastener 76, for detachably securing the first fins 24 of the sanitary napkin 20 in a folded configuration around the crotch edges. of the wearer's undergarment. The second fins 25 each preferably have second fasteners thereon, such as the pressure sensitive adhesive fastener 77, to removably attach the second fins 25 of the sanitary napkin 20 in a configuration that remains extended in the posterior region of the sanitary napkin 20. interior of the wearer's undergarment. The wrap 78 of the present invention serves to cover and protect the first fin clips 76, the second fin clips 77, and the main body holder 74 (if one exists), and is bent around the sanitary cock 20 to provide an individual package for the sanitary napkin 20. Before observing the characteristics of the sheath 78 in greater detail, the properties of the sanitary napkin 20 will be briefly discussed. The sanitary napkin 20 (and the main body portion 22 thereof) has two surfaces, a surface that is in contact with the liquid-permeable body or "body surface" 20A that is intended to be used adjacent to the body of the body. user, of a liquid impervious surface 20B. The sanitary napkin 20 is shown in Figure 1 as seen from its body surface 20A. The sanitary napkin 20 has two center lines, a main longitudinal center line L and a major transverse center line (not shown in Figure 1). The term "longitudinal", as used herein, refers to a line, axis or direction in the plane of the sanitary napkin 20 that is generally aligned with (eg, approximately parallel to) a vertical plane that divides a user standing in halves the left and right body when using the sanitary napkin 20. The terms "transverse", "lateral" or "width" used herein, are interchangeable, and refer to a line, axis or direction that is located within the plane of the sanitary napkin 20 which is generally perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Figure 1 shows that the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 comprises the part of the sanitary napkin without the first vanes 24 and without the second vanes 25. The main body portion 22 has two separate longitudinal edges 26, two transverse or end edges separated (or "ends") 28, which together form the periphery 30 of the main body portion. The main body portion 22 also has three sections comprising a central section 36 (first section), an end section (second section) 34 and the other end section (third section) 32. The first section 36 is disposed between the second section 34 and the third section 32. The second section 34 and the third section 32 extend in outwardly in the longitudinal direction from the edges of the central section 36 of the main body portion 22. When the sanitary napkin 20 is individually packed, the main body portion 22 and the sheath 78 are folded into three regions comprising a first region 39, a second region 41, and a third region 43 divided by the two bending axes F1 and F2 (referred to in Figure 2). The first section 36, the second section 34 and the third section 32 of the main body portion 22 generally extend in the first region 39, the second region 41 and the third region 43, respectively. The main body portion! 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 can be of any thickness, including relatively thick, of intermediate thickness, relatively thin, or even very thin (or "ultra-thin"). An "ultra-thin" sanitary napkin 20 as described in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,950,264 and 5,009,653 issued to Osborn preferably have a caliber of less than about three millimeters. The embodiment of the towel subject 20 shown in the drawings is intended to be an example of a sanitary towel of an intermediate thickness. The main body portion 22 of which sanitary napkin 20 can also be relatively flexible, of ta! way that is comfortable for the user. It should be understood that the sanitary napkin shown is only one embodiment, and that the wrapper of the present invention is not limited to use with absorbent articles of the type or having the specific configurations shown in the drawings. Figure 3 shows the individual components of the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20. The main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 preferably comprises at least three main components. These include a liquid-permeable upper sheet 38, a liquid-impermeable backsheet 40, and an absorbent core 42 positioned between the topsheet 38 and the backsheet 40. The topsheet, the backsheet, and the absorbent core can be assembled in a variety of configurations known in the art (including layered or "walled" configurations and wrapped or "tube" configurations). Suitable materials for the components of the main body portion 22, and some of the various configurations in which these components can be assembled are generally described in U.S. Patent No. 4,321,924 entitled "Bordered Disposable Absorbent Article" issued to Ahr on March 30, 1982; U.S. Patent No. 4,425,130 entitled "Composite sanitary napkin" issued to DesMarais on January 10, 1984; U.S. Patent No. 4,950,264 entitled "Thin, flexible sanitary napkin" issued to Osborn on August 21, 1990; U.S. Patent No. 5,308,346 entitled "Elastic Sanitary Towel" issued to Sneller et al. on May 3, 1994; and U.S. Patent No. 5,389,094 entitled "Absorbent article having fins and zones of differential extension capacity" issued to Lavash et al. on February 14, 1995. The main body portion 22 of sanitary napkin 20 may also be comprised of of one or more extensible components such as those may be sanitary, and the like "described is U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 07 / 915,133 and 07 / 915,284, both filed July 23, 1992, in the name of Osborn et al. (PCT publication Nos. WO 93/01785 and 93/01786, both published February 4, 1993) Figures 1 to 3 show a preferred embodiment of the sanitary napkin 20 assembled in a sandwich construction, in the which upper sheet 38 and rear sheet 40 have length and width dimensions generally greater than those of absorbent core 42. upper sheet 38 and rear sheet 40 extend beyond the edges of the core to bumper 42 to form portions of the periphery 30. The topsheet 38 is preferably attached to the side facing the body of the absorbent core 42 and the backsheet 40 is preferably attached to the side facing the absorbent core garment 42. The sheet upper 38 and backsheet 40 may be attached to the absorbent core in any suitable manner known to the art for that purpose, such as by an open pattern of adhesives. The portions of the upper sheet 38 and the rear sheet 40 extend beyond the edges of the absorbent core 42 are preferably also joined together. These portions of the topsheet 38 and the backsheet 40 may also be joined in any suitable manner known in the art. Preferably, in the embodiment shown, these portions of the topsheet 38 and of the backsheet 40 are bonded using adhesives on substantially the total portions extending beyond the edges of the absorbent core 42, and a seal crimped around the periphery 30 of the main body portion 22 where the upper sheet 38 and the back sheet 40 are said to be given by the application of pressure or heat and pressure. The sanitary towel 20 shown in Figures 1 to 3, as discussed above, also comprises a pair of first fins 24 and a pair of second fins 25 that are attached to the main body portion 22. The first fins 24 extend laterally toward outside further from the longitudinal side edges 26 of the main body portion 22 from its proximal edges 44 to its distant edges (or "free ends") 46. the first fins 24 extend laterally outward from at least a portion of the first. section 36 of the main body portion 22 and most of the first fins 24 extend into the first region 39 divided by the bending axes F1 and F2. The second fins 25 extend laterally outwardly beyond the longitudinal side edges 26 of the main body portion 22 from their proximal edges 45 to their distant edges (or "free ends") 47. The second fins 25 are positioned adjacent to one another. end edge 28 of the main body portion 22 spaced apart from the first fins 24 in the longitudinal direction of the main body portion 22. The second fins 25 extend laterally from at least a portion of the second section 34 of the portion of main body 22 and most of second fins 25 extend into second region 41 divided by fold axis F2. The first fins 24 and the second fins 25 can be attached to the main body portion 22 in any suitable manner. The term "joined", as used herein, encompasses configurations in which one element is directly secured to the other element by fixing the element directly to the other element; configurations in which the element is indirectly secured to! another element for fixing the element to a member an intermediate members which in turn are fixed to the other element; and configurations in which one element or is integral with the other element, ie, one element or is essentially part of the other element. Preferably, the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3, the first fins 24 and the second fins 25 are integral with the main body portion 22 (i.e., the fins 24 and 25 comprising integral extensions of the backsheet 40. alternatively, the fins 24 and 25 may comprise integral extensions of the upper sheet 38 and the rear sheet 40). In other alternate embodiments, the fins 24 and 25 may comprise one or more separate components that are attached to the garment-facing side of the main body portion 22. Preferably, in such a case, the fins 24 and 25 each comprise a separate components that are attached to the garment-facing side of the main body portion 22. In such alternate embodiment, the fins 24 and 25 are preferably otherwise disengaged to the garment-facing side of the main body portion. 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 between the points where they are attached to the main body portion 22 and the longitudinal side edges 26 of the main body portion 22. The vanes 2425 which in these latter embodiments, can be attached on the side that gives towards the garment of the main body portion 22 by any suitable joining mechanism. Suitable attachment mechanisms include, but are not limited to adhesives, and the like. The first fins 24 and the second fins 25 can be joined to the main body portion 22 by different joining methods from one another. The places or regions on the sanitary napkin 20 where the flaps 24 and 25 a join (or extend from) the main body portion 22, are referred to herein as "seams". These regions will typically be longitudinally oriented ("longitudinal") junctures, such as seam lines 48. These regions may be any of several curved or straight lines, but these are not limited to lines. In this way, the seams may comprise tabs, strips, intermittent lines, and the like. The first fins 24 and the second fins 25 can be of any desired configuration, with a preferred configuration shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 shows that the first fins 24 are provided with zones of extension capacity (or "zones of extension"). differential extension capacity ") 56 on the front edge and the trailing edge of each fin 24. The zones of extension 56 release the stresses that are created in the first fins 24 by bending the first fins 24 around the crotch of the user's undergarment. The extension capacity zones 56 thus help eliminate the clutter of the first fins 24 caused by said stresses. Preferably, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the extension capacity zones 56 comprise pre-corrugated or "ring-rolled" regions of the first fins 24, in which the corrugations 58 define valleys and peaks that are oriented at an angle with respect to the main longitudinal center line L. Structures suitable for providing the fins 24 with extension capacity zones 56 are described in greater detail in U.S. Patent 5,389,094 issued to Lavash et al. and in the commonly assigned copending application thereto. U.S. Patent Serial No. 08 / 380,769, entitled "Absorbent Article Having Fins with Shirred Portions" filed in the name of Sue A. Mills et al. on January 30, 1995. The sanitary napkin 20 preferably has two fasteners for securing the sanitary towel 20 in place within a wearer's undergarment. Figures 1 and 2 show a preferred fastener arrangement comprising a main body portion fastener (or central pad), such as the central pad adhesive 74, and fin fasteners, such as first flap adhesives 76 and second flap adhesives 77. The fasteners used with the sanitary napkin 20 are not limited to adhesive fasteners. Any suitable type of fasteners known in the art can be used for this purpose. For example, the sanitary napkin 20 can be secured in place in an undergarment of the wearer by mechanical fasteners, such as VELCRO®, or by a combination of adhesive and mechanical fasteners. However, for simplicity the fasteners will be described in terms of the adhesive fasteners and these fasteners are preferably pressure sensitive adhesive fasteners. Suitable pressure sensitive adhesive fasteners are described in greater detail in U.S. Patent No. 4,917,697. The adhesive of the central pads 74, of the first flap adhesives 76 and the second flap adhesives 77 can be provided in any suitable configuration. In a preferred embodiment shown, the adhesive of the central pad 74 is provided in the form of a strip of longitudinally oriented adhesive that is centered around the main longitudinal center line L. The first flap adhesives 76 and the second flap adhesives 77 they are provided in the form of a generally rectangular adhesive patch on each first fin 24 and each second fin 25 respectively. The adhesive the central pad 74 provides an adhesive bonding element for securing the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20 to the crotch portion of a panty. The first fin adhesives 76 are used to assist in keeping the first fins 24 in position after they wrap around the edges of the crotch portion of the panty. The second fin adhesives 77 are used to assist in keeping the second fins 25 in position after they are made to extend in a back region within the panty. The fins can be held in position by fixing the fins 24 to the undergarment, or to the opposite fin. Figures 1 to 4 and 6 to 7 show a preferred version of the wrapper 78 of the present invention. As shown in Figure 1, the envelope, generally designated by the reference number 78, comprises several elements. These elements may comprise integral portions of a single member or article, or these may comprise separate components attached to a member or article. The elements comprising the wrapping 78 include: a main wrapping sheet 80, 1 detaching or optional components, such as a paper! of release (or release coating) 82 disposed on one side of the main wrapping sheet 80; a fin fastener cover, such as a flap adhesive cover 81. The main wrap sheet 80 (or "wrap sheet") is the portion of the wrap 78 that will be folded around the sanitary napkin 20 to provide a package individual for the sanitary napkin 20. The main wrapping sheet 80 preferably covers and removably affixes to the adhesive of the central pad 74. The main wrapping sheet 80 preferably has dimensions that are slightly larger than those of the main body portion. 22 of the sanitary napkin 20. Preferably, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 7, the main wrapping sheet 80 has longitudinal side portions 80D that extend beyond the longitudinal side edges 26 of the main body portion 22. of the sanitary napkin 20. The main wrapping sheet 80 preferably also has a first end portion 80A and a second end portion 80A. end portion 80B, which extend beyond the end edges 28 of the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20. However, it is recognized that satisfactory protection of the sanitary napkin 20 can be achieved by a wrapping that is not greater than the main body portion 22 of the sanitary napkin 20. The main shroud sheet 80 may be made of any suitable material. The main wrapping sheet 80 is preferably manufactured from a flexible, thin material, which is impervious to liquids in such a way that the wrap 78 is suitable for wrapping and disposing of a sanitary towel 20 used. For example, it was found that polyethylene films work well. The main wrapper sheet 80 may be provided with the optional release component, such as release paper 82 (or release liner) such that the main wrapper sheet 80 will peel off the core pad adhesive 74 when the user removes the towel 20 of the wrappers 78. If a separate release paper is used, it can comprise any suitable material known to the art for this purpose, such as coated papers. Suitable release papers are described in U.S. Patent No. 4,917,697. This release paper 82 can be laminated to the inner surface of the main wrapping sheet 80 as shown in Figures 3 and 6. If a release coating is used, the coating can be applied directly to the inner surface of the sheet. Wrap main 80. This coating may comprise any material known in the art for this purpose, with silicone coatings being preferred. If a coating is used, the coating 82 can be provided by coating only those areas of the main wrapping sheet 80 that will be substantially in contact with the central pad adhesive 76. Alternately, the total internal surface of the main wrapping sheet 80 may be coated. The coating of the entire interior of a wrapper is disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 5,181,610 entitled "flexible container with non-tacky interior" which was issued to Quick et al. On January 26, 1993. The cover of the flap adhesive 81 ( or "flap detachment strip") covers and protects the first flap adhesives 76 and the second flap adhesives 77, and holds the first flaps 24 and the second flaps 25 in a folded position on the top sheet 38 for packaging . In the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1, 2, 6 and 7, the fin adhesive cover 81 extends from the second end portion 80B of the main wrapper sheet 80 and extends generally in the second region 41 in a state bent. The fin adhesive cover 81 is preferably attached to the main wrapping sheet 80. More specifically, as shown in Figure 4, the fin adhesive cover 81 preferably extends into the first region 39 and the second region 41 in a stretched state before it is folded and a fin adhesive cover 81 is attached to the main leaf of the adhesive. wrapping 80. The fin adhesive cover 81 preferably comprises a single separate sheet having a first end portion 81 C, a second end portion 81 D and a pair of longitudinal longitudinal portions 81 E. the cover of adhesive flap 81 also comprises a transverse bend axis F3, a first portion 84 and a second portion 85. the transverse bend axis F3 divides the flap adhesive cover 81 in the first portion 84 and in the second portion 85. the first portion 84 extends from the transverse bending axis F3 to the bending axis F2 in the first region 39 and the second portion 85 extends from the transverse bending axis F3 to the second end portion 80B of the casing. ura major 80 in the second region 41. The first portion 84 covers and protects the first flap adhesives 76 and the second portion 85 covers and protects the second flap 77 adhesives. The letter 81 adhesive flap also has two faces , one of which is a non-sticky surface (or removable surface) 81A, which is capable of removably attaching with the fin clips, and an opposite side or side 81 B. Preferably, as shown in the figure 4, the non-sticky face 81 A of the flap adhesive cover 81 faces the first flap adhesives 76 and the second flap adhesives 77 in a stretched state, such that it is capable of releasably adhering to the first adhesive of flap 76 and the second warning adhesives 77. When the flap fasteners 76 and 77 comprise adhesive fasteners, the non-tacky face 81A may be provided by attaching a separate paper or detachment element to the flap cover. flap adhesive 81 which is treated with a non-tacky material, or by treating all or a portion of the flap adhesive cover 81 with a non-tacky coating, such as by coating with silica a part of the flap adhesive cover 81. alternatively, if the flap fasteners 76 and 77 comprise mechanical fasteners, such as VELCRO fasteners, the non-tacky face can be provided with a non-woven material capable of integrally coupling the mechanical fastening material. The opposite side 81 B faces away from the first flap adhesives 76 and the second flap adhesives 77. The opposite side 81 B of the flap adhesive flap 81 need not have, and preferably does not have, a release coating over the flap. same. The fin adhesive cover 81, as shown in Figures 1, 2, 6 and 7, is attached to the main wrapper sheet 80 in a folded state. The fin adhesive cover 81 is bent about the transverse bend axis F3 such that the first portion 84 covers the second portion 85. Alternatively, the fin adhesive cover 81 can be folded about the transverse bend axis. F1. In such a case, the transverse bending axis F3 may coincide with the bending axis F1. In the bent state, the opposite side 81 faces inwardly and the non-sticky face 81A faces outwards. As shown in Figure 6, the opposite side 81 B in the first end portion 81 C is attached to the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 by application of the adhesive layer 83. In one embodiment preferred, when the flap adhesive cover 81 is bent, the first end portion 81 C of the first portion 84 extends outwardly beyond the second end portion 81 D of the second portion 85 and the end edge 28 of The main body portion 22 in the second region 41. In addition, the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 extends outwardly beyond the second end portion 81 D of the second portion 85 and the edge of the second. end 28 of the main body portion 22 in the second region 41. The fin adhesive cover 81 can be of any shape and sizealthough the figures illustrate a fin adhesive cover 81 which is only of sufficient width and length to cover and protect the first fin adhesives 76 and the second fin adhesives 77. Figure 8 shows a variation of the adhesive cover of flap 81 shown in the preceding figures of the drawings. In the embodiment shown in Figure 8, instead of being a separate component of the main wrapping sheet 80, the fin adhesive cover 81 is an integral part of the main wrapping sheet 80. The wrapping 78 preferably also comprises an optional package fastener 86 for retaining the package formed by folding the wrap and sanitary napkin in its folded configuration. The package fastener 86 is preferably capable of removably attaching to the package and capable of being resealed. The package fastener 86 may be comprised of any fastener capable of releasably attaching and resealing known the art, such as adhesive dots or patches, tapes, and mechanical fasteners. A tape tab with a pressure sensitive adhesive located thereon is found to work well. The package fastener 86 may be disposed at any suitable location on the wrapper 78. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the package fastener 86 is preferably positioned on the first opposite end portion 80A of the main blade of the package. wrapping 80. For the initial packing of the sanitary napkin 20 in wrapper 78, the garment-facing side 20B of the main body portion 22 is placed on top of the main wrapper sheet 80. The sanitary napkin 20 it is positioned in such a way that the central pad holder 74 is located on the release paper or release liner 82 on the main wrapper sheet 80. the first fins 24 and the second fins 25 are then preferably folded over the topsheet 38. in such a way that the first fins 24 and the second fins 25 are in the configuration shown in figures 2 and 3. The bending of the fins 24 and 25 in the configuration shown in Figures 2 and 3 exposes the adhesive patches 76 and 77 disposed on the garment-facing side of the fins 24 and 25 and causes the fins 24 and 25 to cover at least a portion of the sheet upper 38. The bending of the fins 24 and 25 on the upper sheet 38 can, thus, be considered to provide a degree of protection to prevent the upper sheet 38 from staining before being used. In alternate embodiments, where a pump of the first fins 24 has a greater extension (ie, its measured dimension in the transverse direction), the first fins 24 can be folded on the upper sheet 38 in such a way that one of the first flaps 24 at least partially cover the other flap 24 as shown in figure 5. The first flap 24B covers, fixes, and protects the flap joint means 76 of the first flap 24A. The flap adhesive cover 84 will then cover, join and protect the flap fastener 76 of the first flap 24B. The second fins 25 can have the same structure as the first fins 24 having a greater extension. After folding the fins 24 and 25 on the upper sheet 38, the sanitary towel 20 and the main wrapping sheet 80 will then preferably be folded from the three regions that are defined by the fold axes F1 and F2 shown in the figure
2. The fold axes F1 and F2 will divide both the sanitary pad 20 and the main wrapping sheet 80 between regions comprising the first region 39, the second region 41 and the third region 43. As shown in Fig. 2, the The central region (the first region) 39 is located between the preferred fold axes F1 and F2. The second and third regions 41 and 43 are located longitudinally outside the fold axes Fl and F2.
As described above, the main body portion 22 is also separated on the fold axes F1 and F2 between sections comprising the first section 36, the second section 34, and the third section 32. Each section of 36, 34 and 32 generally extend in each region 39, 41 and 43 respectively. Figure 9 illustrates the package for the sanitary towel formed by folding the wrapper 78 and the sanitary napkin 20 in a preferred configuration for shipping, selling, and convenient carrying by the wearer. When the second fins 25 are folded over the upper sheet 38 as desired above, the non-tacky face 81A of the second portion 85 of the flap adhesive cover 81 is placed over the second fin fasteners 77 and according to the removable to each adhesive patch 77 as shown in Fig. 2. In addition, the fin adhesive cover 81 provides a connection between each fin 25 extending the fins 25, thereby holding the second fins 25 in the desired position until removes the fin adhesive cover 81. As shown in Figure 9, the second region 41 (ie, the second end portion 80B of the main wrapper 80, together with the second section 34 of the main body portion 22, the second fins 25, the second fin adhesives 77 and the folded glue cover 81 bent) is bent around the fold axis F1 on the first region 39 (i.e., the central portion 80C of the wrapper). main 80, the first section 36 of the main body portion 22, the first fins 24 and the first fin adhesives 76). When the sanitary napkin 20 and the wrap 78 are bent in this manner, the non-tacky face 81 A of the first portion 84 of the flap adhesive cover 81 is placed over the first flap fasteners 76 and is detachably attached to the flap fastener 76. each adhesive patch 76. In addition, the fin adhesive cover 81 provides a connection between each fin 24 extending the fins 24, thereby holding the first fins 24 in the desired position until the fin adhesive cover is removed. The third region 43 (i.e., the first end portion 80A of the main envelope 80, together with the third section 32 of the main body portion 22) is then bent around the fold axis F2 over the second region. 41 which is already bent over the first region 39. By pressing the tape tab 86 on the outside of the wrapper 78 in the position illustrated in Fig. 9, the sanitary pad 20, its fins 24 and 25 and the shipping 78 remain in the configuration shown. Preferably, to complete the individual packaging! of the sanitary napkin 20 within the wrapper 78 of the present invention, each longitudinal side edge 80D of the main wrapper sheet 80 is then frangibly sealed after the sanitary napkin 20 and the wrapper 78 are in the folded configuration shown in FIG. Figure 9. The frangible seal of the side edges 80D of the main wrapper sheet 80 can be achieved by any suitable sealing technique. By way of example only, the longitudinal side edges 80D may be heat sealed, glued, or ultrasonically joined as shown in FIG. 10. The entire sanitary napkin 20 is thus protected until the envelope 78 is opened. Suitable methods for frangibly sealing the longitudinal side edges are described in United States Patent No. 4, 556,146 issued to Swanson. The various embodiments of the wrapper 78 described herein can be made in any suitable manner. The fin adhesive cover 81 can be made of the same material as the main wrapping sheet or any adhesive coated material known in the art. The fin adhesive cover 81, are separate elements, may be attached to the main wrapper sheet 80 at any time during the manufacture of the sanitary napkin 20 individually packaged of a of the present invention. Preferably, for ease of manufacture, the fin adhesive cover 81 is attached to the main wrapping sheet 80 after the sanitary towel 20 is placed over the main wrapping sheet 80. This will eliminate the need to temporarily remove the cover. of flap adhesive 81 of the main wrapping sheet 80 to allow the sanitary napkin 20 to be placed on the main wrapping sheet 80. The peeling paper or release coating 82 on the main wrapping sheet 80, the non-tacky surface 81 A on the fin adhesive cover 81 is preferably applied before the fin adhesive cover 81 is attached to the main sheet. 80. More preferably, for ease of manufacture, the fin adhesive cover 81 can be placed over the first fins 24 and the second fins 25 respectively as shown in Figure 11 before the fin adhesive cover 81 is attached. to the main wrapping sheet 80. The non-sticky surface 81A of the fin adhesive cover 81 covers the first fins adhesives 76 and the second fins adhesives 77. In addition, the fin adhesive cover 81 covers and protects the majority of the surface that is in contact with the body 20A of the contamination while the absorbent article is manufactured. Opposite sides 81 B which are not removably treated can be provided with the adhesive layer 83 desired before or after the fin adhesive cover 81 is placed over the fins 24 and 25. Alternately, the layer of adhesive 83 can be provided with the region 83A of the main wrapping sheet 80. Then the second region 41 is bent over the first region 39 around the fold axis F1, and the adhesive layer 83 applied to the adhesive cover of flap 81 is non-detachably joined to region 83A at second end portion 80B of main wrapping sheet 80. After this, third region 43 is bent over second region 41 which is bent over the first region. region 39. When the sanitary napkin 20 individually in each is opened, the flap adhesive cover 81 is removed from the first flaps 24 and 25 but this remains with the first end portion 80A of the foil. wrapper 80. The consumer will ordinarily carry the individually packaged sanitary napkin of the present invention in the manner illustrated in FIGS. 9 and 10. As shown in FIG. 12, the individually packaged sanitary napkin of the present invention can be opened. separating the tape tab 86 from the wrapper 78 and breaking the frangible seals along the longitudinal side edges 80D of the wrapper main sheet 80. These give the consumer access to the end edge 28 of the main body portion. 22 of the third region 43. the consumer can then hold the end edge 28 of the main body portion 22 of the third region 43 and pull the tape tab 86 of the sanitary napkin 20 as shown in Figure 2. A As the sanitary napkin 20 is separated from the wrap 78, the central pad adhesive 74 is separated from the main wrapper sheet 80 as shown in Figure 3. At the same time, the first fin adhesives 76 is separated from the fin adhesive cover 81. Because the first end portion 81 C adjacent to the starting side of the separation of the first fin adhesives 76 is attached to the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80, it is easy and uniform to separate the first fin adhesives 76 from the fin adhesive cover 81 compared to a fin adhesive cover 81, a second end portion 81 D of which is attached to the second end portion. 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 and a first end portion 81C is free. When or after the main body portion 22 separates from the main wrapping sheet 80, the second wing adhesives 77 provided on the second vanes 25 begin to separate from the flap adhesive cover 81 as shown in Figure 14. Because the first end portion 81 C adjacent the separation start side of the second flap adhesives 77 is attached to the second end portion 80B of the main blade. of wrap 80, it's easy! and uniform e! separating the second fin adhesives 77 from the fin adhesive cover 81 compared to a fin adhesive cover 81, second end portion 81 D of which is attached to the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 and a first end portion 81 C is free. The sanitary towel 20 is pulled over the wrap 78, the sanitary towel 20 and the wrapper 78 are separated from one another. The separation of the 20 between the envelope 78 is preferably achieved in a simple movement. Once the sanitary napkin is removed from the wrapper 78 and placed in the wearer's panties, the wearer can fold the wrapper 78, securing the wrapper 78 in its bent orientation by gathering the reel-sealable tape tab 86 to the wrapper 78. The consumer may then store the folded wrap 78 for rewrapping and discarding the used sanitary napkin. The user need not worry about collecting and discarding the release flaps of the loose flap adhesives, which were previously required, since all peel strips are attached to or integral with the wrapper 78. The present invention, therefore, provides the user with a clean sanitary towel 20 which is easily installed and no additional waste pieces that must be collected. Figures 15 to 24 show an alternate embodiment of the present invention. The envelope 178 shown in Figures 15 to 24 has essentially the same structure as the first previous embodiment. Therefore, the parts of the alternate embodiment shown in Figures 15:24 corresponding to the parts of the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 14 above are referred to by the same reference numerals. The casing 178 comprising the fin adhesive cover 81.1a fin adhesive cover 81 covers and protects the first fin adhesives 76 and the second fin adhesives 77. The fin adhesive cover 81 comprises a separate single sheet that it has a first end portion 81 C, a second end portion 81 D and a pair of longitudinal side portions 81 E. The fin adhesive cover 81 comprising a transverse bend axis F3, a first portion 84 and a second portion 85. the first portion 84 extends from the transverse bend axis F3 to the bending axis F3 in the first region 39 and the second portion 85 extend from the transverse bend axis F3 to the second end portion 80B of the main casing 80 in the second region 41. The fin adhesive cover 81 also has two faces, one of which is a non-tacky face (or removable face) 81A, which is capable of detachable connection. e with the fin clips, and an opposite side or side 81 B. The fin adhesive cover 81, as shown in Figures 15 to 18 and 20, which is attached to the main wrapper sheet 80 in a folded state. The fin adhesive cover 81 is bent about the transverse bend axis F3 such that the majority of the first portion 84 covers the majority of the second portion 85 with the face-to-face relationship. The opposite side 81 B in the first end portion 81C is attached to the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 by the application of the adhesive layer 83. In addition, the first portion 84 and the second one put 185 of the cover the flap fastener 81 are joined to each other by the application of the adhesive layer 87 of the opposite side 81 B. The adhesive layer 87 can be applied on the side or station 81A of either the first portion 84 or the second portion 85, and may be placed anywhere within the area where the first portion 84 and the second portion 85 overlap. For example, the adhesive layer 87 can be located near the transverse axis F3. Preferably, the adhesive layer 87 is provided adjacent the second end portion 81 D of the second portion 85 as shown in Figures 15 to 17. In a preferred embodiment, when the cover of the flap adhesive 81 is folded, the first end portion 81 C of the first portion 84 extends outwardly beyond the second end portion 81 D of the second portion 85 and the end edge 28 of the main body portion 22 in the second region 41 In addition, the second end portion 80B of the main wrapping sheet 80 extends outwardly beyond the second end portion 81 D of the second portion 85 and the end edge 28 of the main body portion 22. in the second region 41. Figure 19 shows a variation of the fin adhesive cover 81 shown in Figure 18. In the embodiment shown in Figure 19, instead of being a separate component of the main wrapping sheet. 80, the flap adhesive cover 81 is an integral part of the main wrapping sheet 80. In this embodiment, the adhesive layer 87 is also applied to join the first portion 84 and the second portion 85. Figure 20 shows the package for the sanitary napkin formed by folding the wrapper 178 and the sanitary napkin 120 in a preferred embodiment for embarking, selling and convenient carrying by the wearer, which is essentially the same as the configuration shown in Figure 9. In this embodiment shown in figure 20, the adhesive layer 87 is applied to join the first portion 84 and the second portion 85. For ease of manufacture, the fin adhesive cover 81 can be placed on the first fins 24 and the second fins 25 respectively as shown in Figure 21 before the flap adhesive cover 81 is atta to the main wrapping sheet 80.
