DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to Fig. 1, a first preferred embodiment of the hair dryer attachment accessory 10 is illustrated here. The first preferred embodiment is a two part attachment accessory comprising an upper body 12 for supporting the elements for straightening the hair and a lower body 14 for securing the upper body 12 to a front nozzle or outlet of a hair dryer (not shown). The upper body 12 can be separated from the lower body 14 for various reasons, such as cleaning the internal compartment of the coupling fitting or can be integral with the lower body 14 are comprised of an appropriate polymeric material.
The elements for smoothing the hair of the upper body 12 include a heat transfer plate 16 and a comb 18. The heat transfer plate 16 is preferably comprised of a type of material that is capable of absorbing heat from the hot air produced by the hair dryer and transmitting the absorbed heat to the user's hair (for example, metal, a heat conducting polymer such as a nylon filled with talc, a metal filled with polycarbonate, etc.). As shown in Fig. 1, the heat transfer plate 16 is located on the upper body 12 such that a plurality of spaced rods 20 are placed in front of the upper surface of the heat transfer plate 16. The rods 20 are spaced so that neither scalp nor fingers can come into contact with the heat transfer plate 16. The comb 18 includes a plurality of teeth 22 which intertwine through the user's hair and pull the hair to create tension in order to that the hair is pulled through the heat transfer plate 16 causing the hair to retain its stretched shape.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the upper body 12 of the first preferred embodiment includes the outlets 24 and the side outlets 26. The outlets 24 are placed on opposite sides of the upper body 12 and direct the hot air to both areas in front and back of the coupling attachment 10 along a projected direction of the user. The side outlets 26 are positioned on both longitudinal sides 30 of the heat transfer plate 16 and are used to direct the hot air away from the sides of the coupling fitting 10. For the first preferred embodiment, two outlets are positioned adjacent to each one. from the sides of the heat transfer plate 16 and the side outlets 26 are placed at each of the longitudinal ends 30 of the heat transfer plate 16. Accordingly, the coupling accessory 10 of the present invention develops a double action, that is, the hot air from the outlets 24 effectively dries the wearer's hair while the hair is pulled through the heat transfer plate 16 by the comb 18.
The side outlets 26 provide the coupling attachment 10 with the ability to be used with a wide variety of dryers. Many conventional hair dryers have high power blowers that produce large volumes of concentrated air flow. Excessive obstruction of the front outlet or nozzle of the hair dryer can cause mechanical problems in these hairdryers. The side outlets 26 of the coupling fitting 10 provide substantial ventilation capabilities and, thus, the coupling fitting 10 can be used with a wide variety of different hair dryers, despite the speed or power of the blower of the dryer. Also, the side outlets 26 allow the user to dry their hair while the attachment accessory 10 is attached to the hair dryer.
Referring to Fig. 4, the lower body 14 of the first preferred embodiment is fixed to a nozzle or outlet of a hair dryer. In particular, the lower body 14 has an inner surface 28 and a plurality of internal, flexible segments 30 located within the inner surface 28. Each internal segment 30 has a substantially elongated shape and is angled inwardly from the base 32 towards the upper 34 of the lower body 14. Also, for the first preferred embodiment, the angle of inclination for each segment changes at the midpoint 36 of the inner segment 30.
Each inner segment 30 has a lower end 38 which is connected to the bottom of the lower body 14, and an upper end 40 which is positioned towards the upper part 34 of the lower body 14, such that the upper end 40 of each inner segment 30 is free to fit around and distant from the inner surface 28 of the lower body 14. Further, in each inner segment 30 includes a -straw 42 at its upper end 40 to abut the outer portion of the outlet or nozzle of the hair dryer. Therefore, the dynamic ability to adjust the inner segments 30 provides an adjustment of the coupling fitting to the outlet or nozzle of a wide variety of different dryers of > hair .
Referring to FIGS. 5 to 8, a second preferred embodiment of the hair dryer attachment accessory 50 according to the present invention is shown. As shown in Figs. 5 to 7, the second preferred embodiment is a one-piece coupling fitting that is circumferentially narrower than the two-part coupling fitting of the first preferred embodiment. Also, the forward exits 58 are larger, thus providing greater ventilation of the airflow through it.
Referring to Fig. 8, the inner compartment 64 of the second preferred embodiment does not include the inner segments 30 of the first preferred embodiment, shown in Fig. 4. Instead, the inner compartment 64 includes an internal surface 66 having internal rods 68 that secure the coupling attachment 50 with the outlet or nozzle of the hair dryer. Furthermore, as stated above, the overall circumference of the second preferred embodiment is narrower than the first preferred embodiment. Accordingly, the inner rods 68 and the narrower circumference of the second preferred embodiment adequately secure the coupling fitting 50 to different types of hair dryers.
It should be understood that the aforementioned description is only illustrative of the invention. Different alternatives and modifications can be devised by those skilled in the art without departing from the invention. Accordingly, the present invention seeks to take advantage of all these alternatives, modifications and variations which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known to the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is that which is clear from the present description of the invention.
Having described the invention as above, the content of the following is claimed as property.
