Abstract
Disclosed is a solid (e.g., cream, such as semi-solid or soft solid) cosmetic composition containing an active cosmetic material (e.g., a deodorant active, an antiperspirant active, a sunscreen, an insect repellent and/or an anti-fungal agent), volatile (e.g., cyclomethicone) and linear chain (e. g., dimethicone and/or phenyl trimethicone) silicone materials, and at least one gelling agent. The at least one gelling agent includes hexanediol-behenyl beeswax, and is included in the composition in an amount sufficient to provide the solid composition. By incorporating the hexanediol-behenyl beeswax as a gelling agent, conventional gelling agents such as fatty alcohols and hydrogenated castor oil need not be incorporated in the composition. When an antiperspirant active material is incorporated in the solid composition containing hexanediol-behenyl beeswax as a gelling agent, a solid antiperspirant composition that is efficacious and leaves no visible (white) residue, can be achieved.
Description
SOLID COSMETIC COMPOSITION WITH HEXANEDIOL-BEHENYL BEE WAX
Technical Field
The present invention is directed to a solid cosmetic composition which essentially leaves no visible residue (white) on the skin, which is stable and essentially anhydrous, and which is effective. In particular, the present invention is directed to a solid cosmetic composition (e.g., a cream) containing an active cosmetic material (e.g., selected from deodorant active materials, de-sunscreen materials, repellents). of insects and agents against fungi) which does not leave a residue essentially visible on the skin and which is effective.
The present invention relates especially to an antiperspirant cream composition containing an antiperspirant active agent (an antiperspirant active metal salt, such as an antiperspirant active aluminum salt and / or an antiperspirant active zirconium-aluminum salt) and a deodorant cream containing an active deodorant agent (for example, a bacteriostat, such as triclosan), which exhibits the aforementioned properties.
Art Background
Antiperspirant products are well known in the art. Antiperspirant products have appeared on the market in various dosage forms, such as bars, gels, rollers, aerosols and creams. Of these dosage forms, the various bars, gels and creams are constituted by a liquid base material solidified by a solidifying agent
(for example a gelation agent) and these fall within the solid cosmetic composition according to the present invention.
Generally, dosage forms include a solution of the active ingredient in a suitable solvent, a suspension of the active ingredient in a non-active solvent, or an emulsion or
- multiphase dispersion in which the active ingredient is dispersed in some continuous phase or in which the solubilized active ingredient constitutes the continuous phase.
A variety of cream formulas (also
"known as soft or semi-solid solids) are known Several of these cream formulas include a clay thickener, and an activator for such a clay thickener.
See, for example, the patent of the United States of America
No. 5,019,375 issued to Tanner et al .; and the patent of the
United States of America No. 4,526,780 issued to Marschner et al.
Other cream compositions contain a particulate thickener such as fumed silica. See U.S. Patent No. 5,069,897 issued to Orr et al. And U.S. Patent No. 4,937,069 issued to Shin et al.
U.S. Patent No. 5,102,656 issued to Kasat, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety, describe a creamy and heterogeneous anhydrous antiperspirant product containing, in percent by weight of the total weight of the composition, 30-70% of a volatile silicone product as a carrier, 7-30% of a suitable gelation agent or agents, and about 12-30% of a physiologically acceptable antiperspirant agent. This patent discloses that the gelling agent can be any of a number of compositions, including, for example, hydrogenated vegetable oil, hydrogenated castor oil, fatty acids, beeswax, paraffin wax, fatty alcohols. , polyethylene and the like.
U.S. Patent No. 4,331,653 to Brown et al. Describes an esthetic composition which effectively stops bleeding while a soothing sensation is administered to an injured area. The composition being in the form of a stable cream or lotion and including specific amounts of a long chain fatty acid, a wax filler, a polyethylene glycol stearate, a beeswax of sorbitan polyethylene glycol, an acidic metal salt (an agent to stop the flow of blood) and water. This patent discloses that the long-chain fatty acid, polyethylene glycol stearate and polyethylene glycol sorbitan beeswax are used as emulsifiers or dispersing agents which promote the formation of a cream or stable lotion, these materials are also believed to be responsible for the soothing nature of the lotion or cream; and that the wax filler may be any of several wax products such as microcrystalline wax, paraffin wax, and preferably beeswax.
U.S. Patent No. 4,948,584 to Brand, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in its entirety, discloses a modified beeswax, suitable for use in cosmetic preparations which causes no crystallization in the greasy phase, the modified beeswax does not contain free acids or virtually does not contain free acids. This patent discloses that the modified beeswax has self-emulsifying characteristics and has a surprising dispersing action for solid substances. This patent discloses that the modified beeswax is capable of gelling fluid oils and other waxes (including synthetic triglycerides and lipophilic silicone oils); the viscosity of the oil being co-determinant of the amount of beeswax that will be used.
In spite of the foregoing, it is still desirable to provide a cosmetic composition (e.g., a solid cosmetic composition, including cream compositions) that is stable, essentially anhydrous and free of conventional gelation agents such as fatty alcohols and waxes. of castor oil, and which does not essentially leave a visible residue (white) with the application and after drying. In U.S. Patent No. 5,531,986 to Shevade et al., Describe a low solid residue of antiperspirant deodorant made with volatile and non-volatile silicones, high and low melted wax points and dimethicone copolyol. In particular, it is desirable to provide an antiperspirant cream composition that is stable, essentially anhydrous and free of conventional gelling agents, and which does not essentially exhibit a visible (white) residue upon application and after drying.
Description of the invention
Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a cosmetic composition (e.g., a solid cosmetic composition such as a cream composition or a soft or semi-solid solid composition) which is stable, and which is essentially anhydrous, such composition packaged in a dispensing container, and a method for using such a cosmetic composition.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide such a cosmetic composition which does not require the inclusion of conventional gelation agents such as fatty alcohols (for example stearyl alcohol) and castor oil waxes (e.g. hydrogenated castor)
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide such a cosmetic composition containing an active material selected from the group consisting of deodorant active materials, antiperspirant active materials, sunscreen materials, antifungal agents and insect repellents, which does not leave a essentially visible residue (white), such composition packaged in a dispensing container and a method for using such composition.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a cosmetic cream composition containing active cosmetic materials as previously discussed, and which does not contain conventional gelation agents, but which is stable and effective and a method for using such a composition.
It is especially an object of the present invention to provide an antiperspirant composition (for example an antiperspirant cream composition) containing an antiperspirant active metal salt (for example, a salt containing active antiperspirant aluminum) whose composition is anhydrous and stable, does not contain of conventional gelation, and exhibits no visible residue (white) after application and after drying, such an antiperspirant composition is packaged in a spout container, and to a method of using the composition.
The above objects are achieved by the cosmetic composition of the present invention, containing, as a gelation agent in the composition, the beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl, the gelation agent containing beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl being included in combination with volatile silicone materials and linear chain silicone materials in the composition. Linear chain silicone materials can be volatile or non-volatile. Therefore, the cosmetic composition of the present invention includes a volatile silicone material; a linear chain silicone material; at least one gelation agent, this gelation agent being included in the composition in an amount to express the composition so as to provide a solid composition, the gelation agent including beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl; and at least one active cosmetic material selected from the group consisting of deodorant active materials, antiperspirant active materials, sunscreen materials, antifungal agents and insect repellents. The active cosmetic material is to be included in the composition in an amount sufficient to have a functional effect; for example, where a sunscreen material is incorporated into the composition, a sufficient amount of the sunscreen material should be incorporated to provide a solar filtering effect. i == _
As indicated previously, the gelation agent, which includes beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl, is included in the composition in an amount to thicken the composition so as to provide a solid composition. For example, a cream composition can be provided by including a sufficient amount of the gelation agent in the composition to thicken the composition to make a cream.
Illustratively, the gelation agent may consist only of beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl.
However, the gelation agent does not need to be limited to only this beeswax and may include mixtures of this wax
* bees with other gelation materials. In addition, and further illustrating and not limiting the present invention, hexanediol behenyl wax bees can be included in the composition in an amount of 3% -25% by weight of the total weight of the composition.
Illustratively, the volatile silicone material included as part of the present composition may be a cyclomethicone, even though the present invention is not limited to including a cyclomethicone as a silicone material such as a volatile silicone material. The linear chain silicone material may include dimethicone and / or phenyl trimethicone, even though the straight chain silicone material is not limited to these materials.
As a preferred composition of the present invention, the composition may include an antiperspirant active material (e.g., an antiperspirant active metal salt, such as a salt containing active antiperspirant aluminum) as the active cosmetic material. This antiperspirant active material can be in the form of particles, suspended in the rest of the composition. The antiperspirant active material may be included in the composition in an amount sufficient to reduce the flow of perspiration when applied to the skin, so that the composition is an antiperspirant composition (such as a cream or antiperspirant cream composition).
Alternatively, wherein the amount of the antiperspirant active material included in the composition is not sufficient to reduce sweat flow, but is sufficient to reduce body odor (e.g. acting as a bacteriostat), the composition will constitute a deodorant composition. , while it is not an antiperspirant composition. Therefore, incorporating such minor amounts of the antiperspirant active materials will still reduce body odor and an object of the present invention will be achieved, and compositions including such minor amounts are still within the scope of the present invention.
The compositions according to the present invention do not require to include conventional gelation agents such as fatty alcohols and / or castor oil waxes, and still achieve a gelled cosmetic composition which is essentially anhydrous and stable. In addition, the compositions of the present invention are effective; for example, when including the antiperspirant active materials in the composition, the composition may contain sufficient antiperspirant active material to reduce the sweat flow of the body, and achieve this result in a composition that does not leave a visible residue (white) after application. or after drying.
The cosmetic compositions according to the present invention are easy to manufacture, being formed by mixing an active cosmetic material, the linear volatile chain silicone materials and the gelation agent. After mixing to form the composition, said composition according to the present invention can be introduced into a dispensing container as is known in the art. For example, where a cream composition was formed, this composition can be packaged in containers which have the appearance of a bar, but which supply the product through the openings in the upper surface of the container. In use, the product is extruded from a container inside the container on the upper surface of the container, through these openings, and the product on the upper surface is applied
(rubbing) on a desired place (for example where the product is an antiperspirant product for application to the armpit regions of the human body, the product on the upper surface can be applied (rubbed) over the armpit regions of the human body ), as for, depositing the product containing the active cosmetic material (for example, antiperspirant and / or deodorant active material).
By the present invention, an essentially anhydrous and stable cosmetic composition can be provided, which leaves an essentially visible residue (white) on the skin after application and after drying of the deposited film, but which is still highly effective. By incorporating an active antiperspirant material into the composition, and incorporating a quantity of gelation agent to form a cream, an antiperspirant cream composition which is effective and leaves essentially no visible residue, but which does not require antiperspirant agents, can be provided. conventional gelation.
Best Way to Carry Out the Invention
Although the present invention will be described in connection with the specific and preferred embodiments, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the invention to such incorporations. On the contrary, it is intended that the present invention cover all alterations, modifications and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Throughout the present disclosure, the present invention is primarily described in connection with antiperspirant compositions, including antiperspirant cream compositions. However, the present invention is not limited to such compositions; for example, the composition according to the present invention can be a sunscreen composition. Depending on the active cosmetic ingredients included in the composition, the composition can be an insect repellent composition, a sunscreen composition, a composition against fungi, and so on. As for various types of cosmetic compositions and active materials incorporated therein, applicable to the present invention, attention is directed to U.S. Patent No. 4,322,440 issued to Yuhas, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. .
Through the present description, the
"deodorant active materials" and "antiperspirant active materials" are discussed. Both types of materials contribute to the reduction of the bad smell of the body (for example, the armpit). By reducing the bad smell of the body it is generally meant that there is less bad odor of the body after application to a person's skin, in comparison
"to the bad smell of the person without the application of the composition.
Such reduction may be due to a masking of the bad smell, the absorption - and / or the chemical reaction of the malodorous materials, the reduction of the levels of the bacteria that produce the malodorous materials, for example of the perspiration, of the reduction of perspiration, etc. Antiperspirant materials, when used in appropriate quantities act primarily to reduce odor by reducing perspiration; Antiperspirant materials may also have a deodorant function, for example, as an antimicrobial or basteriostatic agent. The deodorant material does not essentially reduce perspiration, but reduces odor in other ways, for example as fragrances that mask odor or reduce the intensity of bad odor, as absorbents, as antimicrobial (bacteriostatic) agents, as chemically reactive agents with the smelly material, and so on.
Through the present disclosure, wherein the compositions are described as including or comprising specific components or specific materials, wherein the methods are described as including or comprising specific steps, it is contemplated by the inventors that the compositions and methods of the present invention also consist essentially of, or consist of the components or materials recited, or of the recited steps. Thus, throughout the present disclosure any disclosed composition of the present invention may consist essentially of, or consist of, the recited components or materials, and any method may consist essentially of, or consist of, recited steps.
The present invention contemplates a cosmetic composition (e.g. a solid (solidified) cosmetic composition) containing (1) an active cosmetic material selected from the group consisting of deodorant active materials, antiperspirant active materials, sunscreen materials, insect repellents and agents against fungi; (2) volatile silicone materials; (3) linear chain silicone materials (this is not non-cyclic); and (4) at least one gelation agent, the at least one gelation agent including the beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl.
The active cosmetic material is included in the composition in an amount sufficient to have a functional effect, such amounts being those conventionally used in the art. See, for example, the amounts described in the aforementioned U.S. Patent No. 4,322,400 issued to Yuhas, the contents of which have been previously incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.
Although the gelation agent may consist of beeswax hexanediol-behenyl (this is beeswax hexanediol behenyl wax may be the only gelation agent incorporated in the composition, the gelation agent is not limited to the hexanediol-behenyl beeswax, and may include a mixture of this beeswax and other gelation materials Generally, the gelation agent is included in the composition in an amount of 3-30%, preferably 5-20 %, by weight, of the total weight of the composition Preferably, beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl is included in the composition in an amount of 3-25% by weight of the total weight of the composition.
A description of beeswax of hexanediol-behenyl will be established in the following. Bexanediol-behenyl wax bees are manufactured, for example by Koster Keunen, Inc. (of Watertown, Connecticut), and it is a modified beeswax where the free fatty acids have undergone a transesterification. As manufactured by Koster Keunen, Inc., hexanediol-behenyl beeswax is a solid amorphous material having a melting point in the range of 62-68 ° C and an acid value of less than 2. This beeswax modified has a saponification value in the range of 80-90. The hexanediol behenyl beeswax has a free fatty acid content of less than 1%, and the fatty acid ester type derivatives of about 11%. The modified beeswax includes 15% hydrocarbons, 14% complex ester and 60% monoester.
Koster Keunen, Inc., sells hexanediol-behenyl beeswax as Ester 103 beeswax. This Ester 103 beeswax provides silicone oil gels which are non-greasy, non-occlusive, which have an extensibility and compatibility high, have a high oxidation resistance and are highly water repellent, achieve easy rubbing and leave a soft and lubricious feeling on the skin. These gels are a major factor in the formation of stable emulsions, and in many cases the production of non-granular, silky and thixotropic gels will lead to a fresh, high-emollience feeling of an emulsion.
Ester 103 of beeswax has 100% compatibility with several cyclomethicones, phenyl methicones and dimethicones.
The beeswax derivatives of Koster Keunen, Inc., formed by transesterification, generally have the following formulation advantages: they gel highly polar oils; these are an excellent emollient and humidifier; they provide a resistance to water (they act as a barrier); they are highly compatible; they can act as an emulsion stabilizer; can act as an assistant
They are a stabilizer, and can act as a film former. These materials are also known for their increased sunscreen. These beeswax derivatives have uses in creams, lotions, makeups, lipsticks / gels anhydrous, and in hair care.
The volatile silicone material to be incorporated in the composition of the present invention can be selected from known volatile materials including linear and cyclic silicone materials, and mixtures thereof. Preferred volatile silicone materials are cyclomethicones (for example cyclomethicone D4, D5 or D6). Other volatile silicones include Dow Corning 200 Fluids 0.65CS, 1CS and 1.5CS, which are volatile dimethicones. Another volatile silicone material which can be incorporated into the
The composition of the present invention is the caproyl trimethicone fluid (for example DC 2-1731). Illustratively, the volatile silicone material is included in the composition in an amount of 30-60%, preferably 35-55% by weight, of the total weight of the composition.
The straight chain silicone material may include dimethicone and / or phenyl trimethicone, but the straight chain silica materials are not limited thereto. For example, the dimethicone copolyol may also be included as a straight chain silicone material in the compositions of the present invention. The linear chain silicone material can be volatile or non-volatile. For example, the various DC 200 fluids (which are various dimethicones) can be used as the linear chain silicone material of the compositions of the present invention. DC 200 fluids with viscosities from 0.65CS to 1.5CS are considered to be volatile while those with a viscosity greater than 1.CS are considered to be non-volatile, and each can be used as the straight chain silicone in the present invention.
Illustratively, and not to limit the present invention, the linear chain silicone material can be incorporated in the composition of the present invention in an amount of 5-40%, preferably 10% -30% by weight, of the total weight of the composition. The dimethicone copolyol can also be incorporated as a linear chain silicone material in an amount of 0.1-10%, preferably 0.5-6.0% by weight of the total weight of the composition.
As previously indicated, the active cosmetic material can be any of several active materials, including (but not limited to) deodorant active materials and antiperspirant active materials.
Where the composition is an antiperspirant composition, various antiperspirant active materials can be incorporated into the composition. These include, by way of example (and not of a limiting nature), aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum chloride, aluminum sesquichlorohydrate, zirconyl hydroxychloride, aluminum-zirconium hydroxychlorides, aluminum-zirconium glycine complex (e.g., tetrachlorohydrex). -gli aluminum-zirconium, etc.). Aluminum type materials can be commonly mentioned as antiperspirant active aluminum salts.
Generally, the foregoing metal-containing antiperspirant active materials are antiperspirant active metal salts. The compositions according to the present invention do not require including metal salts including aluminum, and may include other antiperspirant active metal salts. Generally, Category I active antiperspirant ingredients listed in the Food and Drug Administration monograph on Antiperspirant Drug Products for Use on the Shelf (October 10, 1973) may be used. In addition, any new drug, not listed in the monograph, such as aluminum nitrate hydrate and its combination with zirconyl hydroxychlorides and nitrides, or aluminum-stannous chlorohydrates, can be incorporated as antiperspirant active ingredients in antiperspirant compositions according to the present invention.
The antiperspirant active material, desirably, is included as suspended particles in the composition of the present invention, in amounts up to, for example, 30% by weight, of the total weight of the composition. This is an illustrative and non-limiting amount of the present invention. As an illustrative, and not limiting, amount, the composition may include at least 0.1% by weight of the antiperspirant active material, of the total weight of the composition; however, at low amounts the material may not reduce transpiration (for example, it may act as an active deodorant material, such as an antimicrobial agent or a bacteriostatic agent, rather than reducing perspiration). Illustratively, the composition should include at least 12% by weight of the total weight of the composition of the antiperspirant active material, so that the composition acts as an antiperspirant composition (to reduce the flow of a person's perspiration).
Whether the composition is a deodorant composition or an antiperspirant / deodorant composition, the appropriate deodorant active materials can be incorporated into the composition to provide deodorant active materials to combat body odor. For example, a deodorant fragrance and / or an antimicrobial agent (basteriostat) can be incorporated. A fragrance will be incorporated, illustratively, in an amount of 0.5% -3.0% by weight, of the total weight of the composition; the antimicrobial / bacteriostatic material such as triclosan, preferably and illustratively, will be included in an amount of from 0.1% -0.5% by weight, of the total weight of the composition.
Compositions according to the present invention can include other ingredients incorporated "conventionally into cosmetic compositions including,
(but not limited to) perfumes, cosmetic powders, dyes and emulsifiers. As for various other ingredients which may be incorporated, attention is directed to the optional components, such as the colorants, perfumes and fillers described in the following United States of America patents: United States patent.
"United States No. 5,019,375 issued to Tanner et al. (The contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety); United States of America No. 4,937,069 issued to Shin (whose contents have been previously incorporated herein by reference in its entirety); total), and US Pat. No. 5,102,656 issued to Kasat (whose contents have been previously incorporated herein by reference in its entirety).
The compositions according to the present invention can be made by mixing the active cosmetic material, the volatile silicone material, the linear chain silicone material, and the gelation agent in a liquid form to form a mixture. The mixture can be introduced into the dispensing containers, (cans), as with conventional solid compositions (for example, conventional cream compositions). Where the composition is a cream (soft solid or i-solid, for example), these dispensing containers may be containers which have an upper surface-with slots, there, -the composition is extruded on the upper surface from a reservoir in the container, and then applied (eg by rubbing on the skin) from the top surface so as to deposit a film of the product on the skin. See U.S. Patent No. 5,540,361 issued to Fattori, July 30, 1996, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety, with respect to dispensing containers which may be used to supply the cream compositions ( semi-solid or soft solid) of the present invention.
As a specific illustration of the manufacturing process (which should not be limiting), initially hexanediol-behenyl beeswax was heated and melted at about 60 ° -75 ° C. Then the linear chain silicone material, the volatile silicone material, the active cosmetic material (for example the antiperspirant active material) and the rest of the components of the composition are mixed and combined in the beeswax melted as to form a uniform mixture. The mixture is then cooled to about 54 ° C and poured into the distributing vessels.
Illustratively, wherein the composition is an antiperspirant composition containing an antiperspirant active material to reduce transpiration in the armpit regions, in use the composition is extruded from the interior of the spout container through the slots on the upper surface of the container 'distributor, and from there it's applied
(rubbed) on the skin in the armpit regions, such as to deposit sufficient antiperspirant active material (and, if present, a sufficient deodorant active material) to reduce perspiration and reduce body odor that originates in the regions of armpit of the human body.
In the following, specific examples of the compositions are established within the scope of the present invention. These specific examples are illustrative of the present invention and not limiting. In these examples, the amounts of the components are in percent by weight, of the total weight of the composition. In these examples, as well as through the description, the various names used are the CTFA names (Cosmetics Toiletry and Fragrance Association, Inc.), as established in the CFTA International Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary (4th Edition, 1991).
