Abstract

An elongated sanitary pad comprises a fluid-permeable upper sheet (1), a core (4), a secondary upper sheet (5), located between the topsheet (1) and the core (4), and elastification means in the form of at least one longitudinally extending thread (7) located between the core and the secondary upper sheet. At least one transverse elastic thread can also be provided

Description

ELAST-DEFECTED PAD FOR CONTACT PRODUCT TO THE BODY FOR LAINCONTINENCE The present invention relates to an absorbent article. This is particularly committed to an absorbent article, for example in the form of a sanitary napkin, which can be used by women suffering from mild and moderate incontinence. The invention will be described hereinafter. However, the invention is of greater general applicability in relation to the absorption of body fluids, either urine or menstruation. A problem associated with these articles is that the urine can not go directly into the article, and be absorbed therein, but can flow along the user's body in a backward direction and escape without ever entering the absorbent material of the article. . This is particularly true in the case of urine discharges that are low volume or low flow rate. It is an object of the present invention to provide an absorbent article that is formed in such a way that the above problem is eliminated, or at least reduced. According to the present invention there is provided an elongated absorbent article comprising a fluid pervious topsheet, and a core for providing fluid storage, and a fluid receptor layer located between the topsheet and the core to transfer to the core. the fluid passing through the upper sheet, and elasticizing means located between the core and the fluid receiving layer, the elasticizing means being in tension when the article is in a generally flat condition. The fluid receiving layer is referred to below as a secondary top sheet. The invention will now be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the embodiment of Figure 1, taken along the longitudinal central line thereof. Figure 3 is a cross section through the modality of Figure 1, taken on the transverse center line thereof; Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but showing a modified embodiment. The embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3 is an absorbent sanitary pad for use by a woman suffering from mild incontinence. It comprises a fluid-permeable topsheet 1, a backsheet 2 impermeable to the fluid that is sealed to the fluid by a seal 3 at the periphery of the article, for example by heat sealing or adhesive. The article further comprises an absorbent core 4, for example 1 containing a gelling absorbent material (AGM), and a secondary upper sheet 5 which serves to receive the fluid and transfer it to the core. The materials used for the topsheet, and the backsheet and absorbent core may be those conventionally used by absorbent sanitary products. However, attention should be directed to the international patent publication WO94 / 28838 which discloses an absorbent product having a high bulk secondary sheet, and WO94 / 01069 disclosing cores that include AGM by further details of some suitable materials . The article comprises an elasticizing system that serves to cause it to curve in a way that allows it to closely conform to the body of the user and at least to substantially avoid, or reduce, the risk of leakage of the urine passing through it. In Figures 1 to 3 this elasticizing system comprises an elastic yarn 6 running along at least a greater part of the length of the article, preferably the total length of the article, below the secondary upper sheet 5, and fixed at its ends, or along its total length or at selected points along its length along the secondary upper sheet and / or core. As you can see, this causes the pad to add a configuration that is concave upward as seen in the longitudinal section (Figure 2), and convex upward as seen in the cross section (Figure 3). The pad is thus elastically raised towards the user's body maintained in close contact with it, in such a way that it provides an adjustment and a better ability to uniformly acquire the lighter urine release. The core is relatively rigid and remains substantially flat as seen in the cross section, thus allowing it to maintain good contact with the wearer's panties. Figure 4 shows a modified embodiment which further comprises an elastic yarn 7 running transversely above the core 2, and below the secondary leaf 5 with its longitudinal elastic yarn 6. The transverse elastic yarn 7 is shown attached to the leaf upper secondary 5, although if it were slightly larger this can alternatively, or additionally, be fixed to the primary upper sheet 1. In any event, it is preferably fixed only at its ends. Pulling the sides of the secondary upper sheet and / or the primary upper sheet inwardly, the transverse elastic yarn helps to give the article, as seen in the cross-section, the desired convex upward shape. Other modifications are also possible. For example, a plurality of transverse threads may be provided, using the plurality closely together or spaced apart along the length of the article, and the simple longitudinal thread may be replaced by a plurality of longitudinal threads disposed closely together.

Claims (7)
