Description

MODULAR WALLS FOR AN UNIT OF EXHIBITION OF DECEASED GOODS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an integrated display system for mortuary goods, such as chests, coffins, urns, burial vaults and materials for decorating or embellishing them. The display systems of the invention are particularly designed for use by prospective buyers in a presentation room. The display system may include multiple components that are used together and may include modular wall panels to provide a uniform wall panel and a bottom that corresponds or contrasts with the components of the display system, and to separate adjacent spaces used for various purposes related to death. In addition, the display system can be useful to display mortuary merchandise during its intended use, such as at a memorial or funeral service, as well as an inspection room. Various systems for displaying coffins are known in the art. The most primitive of such systems consists of a shelf or display stand for coffins. See, for example, the patent of E. U. A., No. 2,937,768, which describes a two row chests display shelf, which has a rigid frame-like C-shaped structure, to display the two coffins - one supported above the other. U.A. Patent No. 5,405,017 describes a more contemporary casket display system for complete coffins. The '017' patent display system includes a two-row crate display shelf, which can be retracted by means of a scissors type unit, which, in turn, is connected to a bar. The display shelf of the '017 patent is not an integral part of the casket display system. Meanwhile, the coffins display system of the '017 patent offers a quieter stay than the primitive systems of the previous art, as stated in the' 768 patent, it does not allow the complete display of the goods used in funerals and industries Mortuary In addition, it does not allow the display of all types of merchandise, such as decorative accessories, urns and burial vaults. Likewise, the display systems of the previous art, which contain a rolling shelf on which basically a complete coffin is mounted, requires the presence of two chests, one on the upper shelf and the second on a bottom shelf. Such systems are difficult to handle and maneuver, especially since the lower chest is often required to be in a retracted state.
Therefore, there is a need for an exhibition system that allows the presentation of a large volume and a larger type of goods related to the dead with greater ease for the prospective buyer. In addition, there is a need for an exhibit system, which can be assembled and used more easily compared to prior art systems. COMPENDIUM OF THE INVENTION A mortuary merchandise display unit, which maximizes the types and styles of mortuary merchandise, comprises two vertically spaced, parallel-spaced fin wall panels and a vertical rear wall, having secured side edges. to the rear edges of the fin wall panels. The display unit may contain a retractable shelf, connected to the vertically spaced fin wall panels, which has a slide mechanism. This slide mechanism is preferably one having one of its members attached to the interior of the fin wall panel and the other member attached to the retractable shelf. This retractable shelf is typically used to display a burial vault, coffin or chest. Still another embodiment of the invention is directed to a mortuary merchandise display unit, which has elements for interconnecting two or more modular units.
Still another embodiment of the invention is directed to a plurality of modular mortuary merchandise display units, which have elements for interconnecting the individual units by modular wall panels. These modular wall panels provide a uniform wall panel and a background that matches or contrasts with the components of the display units. Modular wall panels can also be used as free erection walls, along with or separated from the display units. Modular wall panels can thus be used to separate adjacent spaces associated with various purposes related to death, such as the display of goods related to graves, cremation-related merchandise, and furniture and commemorative merchandise. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITY The present invention provides an integrated display system for mortuary goods. The display system of the invention is used mainly in a presentation room, where the selection of the mortuary goods takes place by the descendants of the dead person. In addition, the display system of the invention can be used in ceremonial areas related to death, such as the funeral presentation room, as well as funeral and memorial services. The display system of the invention is defined by a rear wall and sidewalls or fins, and may include one or more modular wall panels attached of freely set. One of the main advantages of The display system of the present invention is that it maximizes the number and types of mortuary goods that can be exhibited in a given area and allows making additional uses of the additional space resulting therefrom. When the display system of the present invention is used in conventional facilities related to death, the efficiency with which the available space is used is greatly increased. Thus, when an installation of, for example, 92.90 square meters was previously required, by the use of the present invention the space required to exhibit the same amount of mortuary goods can be reduced to 46.45 square meters or less. The benefit gained from using the display system of the present invention can be realized by adding modular wall panels of various styles and in various configurations. The use of modular wall panels makes possible the creative use of the newly available space to add new spaces or entire rooms useful for many purposes related to death. The display system of the present invention can also be a modular assembly, which allows it to be assembled and disassembled within a short period of time, as well as in the "necessary base". The ability of the display system to be modular allows purchasers to res buy all or sections of the system, when so desired. The display system contains a number of novel features that can be used alone in combination with each other Figures I and II shows an embodiment of the mortuary merchandise display system 10 of the invention, mainly for use in presentation rooms. The display system 10 comprises a rear wall 12 and two side walls or fins, 14 and 16. The fin walls, 14 and 16, connect with the rear wall 12 in the rear section of the fin wall. The vertical rear wall 12 can be secured removably to the rear edges of the fin walls, 14 and 16. As indicated in Figures VI-XI, a modular wall panel 200 can be attached to at least one system 10 for display of mortuary goods, or a plurality of modular wall panels 200 that can be erected freely, adjacent to or associated with a display system 10 and can be used to form smaller separate rooms or rooms of a larger room or chamber, and may include a modular cavity-type door panel, which has a door that can be used to supply a passage between the separate rooms. The modular wall panels are attached to the display system 10 or to the other modular wall panels by conventional means. These conventional means include devices, such as spike pins, for aligning modular wall panels, and coupling mechanisms, such as a cam locking device, for securely but releasably joining modular wall panels together . The most preferred joining and alignment devices are shown in Figures VI, VII and VIII. As best shown in Figures VI ', VII * and VIII1, conventional pin pins 210 are preferably inserted and fixed in holes in the edge of the modular wall panel 200a. The corresponding reception openings 212 are located on the edge of the adjacent modular panel panel 200b, as best shown in Figure VIII. For each pin pin 210, there is a corresponding receiving aperture, for receiving the pin pin 210. This connection ensures a uniform alignment of the adjacent panels 200a and 200b of the modular wall. As best shown in Figures VI "and VII", the adjacent modular wall panels, 200a and 220b, are preferably secured together by a cam locking device. This cam lock device includes a drive handle 220, a cam lock member 222 and an element 224 that receives the cam lock. During use, the action handle 220, which is a separate removable part of the modular wall panel, is inserted into the an opening 221 in the rear wall of the modular wall panel 200a. The opening 221 is aligned with the cam lock member 222, thereby allowing the handle 220 to actuate this cam lock member. The anterior cam locking device and the spike alignment devices are conventional and equivalent, which may be substituted without departing from the scope of the present invention. Preferably, as shown in Figure XII, the modular wall panel 200, when used with a display unit 10, is attached to the rear wall 12. The fin walls, 14 and 16, can be used with the wall back combined 12 and the modular wall panel 200. In a mode including the fin walls, 14 and 16, the display system includes separate units or cabinets interconnected by modular wall panels 200. As indicated in Figure III, the fin wall panels, 14 and 16, are attached to the rear wall panel 12 by conventional fittings in the art, ready for assembly ("RTA"). Fixtures 13 are illustrated with ridges corresponding to the fittings 15 having a recessed area of approximately 1.27 cm. of depth. The rear wall panel 12 has an L-shaped cut 11 and the fin wall panels, 14 and 16, have a receiving notch for the RTA fittings.
The flap wall panels, rear, and modular wall panels of the display system of the invention are typically plywood, but may be made of wood fibers or other durable material, such as a synthetic plastic material, such as Plexiglas or Mylar. The rear flap walls or modular walls can be covered with a fabric-type material or have a textured surface. When desired, a cloth-like material can be removably attached to the panel. allowing the user to select the color and texture. The rear wall panel 12, the flap wall panels, 14 and 16, and the modular wall panels 200, may include known elements for removably attaching objects such as indications and photographs. The resources for attaching objects include, for example, perforated board type accessories, slatted wall, nailable surfaces, fasteners of hook and loop fabrics (eg VELCRO®), magnetic fasteners or other known devices, to join in removable shape objects to a vertical surface to exhibit these objects. Cabinets defined by the rear wall panel 12, the left flap wall panel 14 and the right flap wall panel 16, may exhibit one or more decease confinement chambers 36. These dead confinement chambers may be sized real, section of the real size or miniatures. The cabinet can contain stationary or retractable cameras or a combination of them. Figure 1 illustrates a cabinet that has two life-size confinement chambers. The lower chamber 36a rests on the display shelf 18. The non-retractable top chamber 36b rests on shelf supports 34, which are secured to the flap wall panels 14 and 16. The display unit 10 may also contain front identification signs 51 of the confinement chambers 36a and 36b of the deceased. In preliminary presentation rooms, posters 51 are used to inform clients of the characteristics of the displayed casket. The indicia 39 or other communicative materials can furthermore be mounted on the rear wall 12 or the fin panels 14 or 16, to designate the information about the mortuary goods (when used in an exhibition establishment) or the decedent (when use in a vision room, home of the funeral or establishment of the memorial service). When used in a re-exhibition of a preliminary presentation room, each deceased confinement chamber, 36a and 36b, can be displayed with indications or other communicative means that provide information to the buyer in perspective of the camera. The indications 39 may be used in place of or in addition to the signs 51. Such indications may be mounted and used in a similar manner in modular wall panels 200. The fin and wall panels, illustrated in Figures I and II, are typically 1.52 to 2.44 meters, preferably 2.13 meters in height. The length of the rear wall 12 is sufficient to contain a life-size confinement chamber of real size. Modular wall panels 200, illustrated in Figures VI-XII, are typically 1.52 to 2.44 meters and preferably 2.13 meters in height, selected to present an upper edge flush with the upper edge of the fin and wall panels. Of course, the rear wall, the fin wall and the modular wall panels can be extended to the ceiling of the room where they are used, or to any height within the preferred range. The modular wall panels 200 are preferably 1.22 to 1.52 meters wide and preferably about 1.27 meters high and more preferably have a width of 1.276 meters. The shelf 18 may preferably extend from the rear wall panel 12. Figure II illustrates a side view of Figure I, before and after the extension of the shelf 18 from the rear wall panel. When it is fully extended, the interior of both dead confinement chambers, 36a and 36b can be views. The lid 38 can be raised completely. Further, when the shelf 18 is in a retracted state, the lid 36a of the decease confinement chamber 36a can be completely raised, without coming into contact with other elements of the display unit. The shelf 18 that can be retracted, when present, is an integral part of the display system 10 of the mortuary goods. As indicated in Figure III, the shelf 18 may consist of a horizontal beam 20. Typically, two horizontal beams - shown as 20a and 20b - are used to more evenly distribute the weight of the dead confinement chamber. The vertical beam 22 is connected to the horizontal beams 20a and 20b and provides additional support to the shelf. One or more vertical beams can be used. The shelf is typically metallic, such as steel or aluminum, and is of a construction capable of retaining the weight exerted on it by the dead confinement chamber. The elements for rolling the shelf 18 outwards for better viewing this, can be any sliding assembly mechanism, conventionally used for heavy drawers, such as sliding mounted impulse guide assemblies, used in the manufacture of office furniture. . As indicated in Figure III, each sliding mechanism can be characterized by a hollow guide rail 24, U-shaped, subject to the interior of each of the fin walls of the display unit and an extensible runner rail 26, which, when the shelf is not retracted, is enclosed within the guide rail 24, in U-shape. The runner rail 26 further consists of the bottom plate 28, which is mounted to the ends of the horizontal beam 20a at 30a and 30b, by a screw fastener 30c. When two horizontal beams are used, the runner rail 26 contains a corresponding additional end 32b, to be mounted to the horizontal beam at 32a with the screws 32c. When desired, the sliding mechanism may also contain bearing bodies in the runner rail for contact with the tracks in the guide rail. In addition, either the guide rail or the runner rail is preferably provided with a retainer to prevent the shelf from being rolled too much while allowing it to be pulled out sufficiently so that the lid is free of impediments. As used herein, the term "confinement chamber for the deceased" refers to a chest, coffin or burial vault and, when appropriate, to ballot boxes. The term must include chests, coffins and burial vaults, ready for use, as well as the facades of such chests, coffins and burial vault. When the exhibition unit is to be used in a preliminary exhibition hall is and is designed not to be open, it is especially preferred to use the facades of such chests, coffins and burial vaults. The facade typically includes those sides and external surfaces of the chamber visible to the observer. When the camera used exhibits only the facade, the internal chamber is hollow. The retractable shelf, illustrated in Figure III, can be used with chests or coffins as well as burial vaults. The confinement chamber can have any of the facades of such cameras or a camera ready for use. The facade of the chamber 36a and 36b of Figure II, will include the top, front and sides of the chamber. The display unit of the invention may contain more than one retractable confinement chamber. When two retractable shelves are desired, a solid support (such as plywood or sheet metal) can rest on the shelf supports 34 to give the upper retractable shelf the required support. Alternatively, the shelf supports 34 can be replaced with a solid support surface, which extends from (and secures to) the left flap wall 14 to the right wall panel 16. A drawer slide assembly unit, similar to the illustrated in the Figure III, can be used for both retractable confinement chambers of deceased. It is often desirable, especially where the display unit contains a retractable death chamber, to secure the unit to a stationary support. Thus, the rear wall 12 can be secured to the attached wall surface of the building. Alternatively or in addition to securing the rear wall to the enclosed wall, the base of the flap wall or back wall can be screwed by means of conventional fasteners, to the floor. To do this, the potential torsion in the display due to the confinement chamber of the deceased, which can be extended, will be counteracted. The modular wall panel 200 can be secured to a stationary support, such as an attached wall surface of the building. Alternatively, or in addition to, securing the modular wall panel 200 to the adjoining wall or adjacent display units, the base of the modular wall wall may be attached, by means of conventional fasteners, to the floor. By doing this, the modular wall panels will be stabilized. The modular wall panel 200 can be mounted in a stand-alone manner. A plurality of modular wall panels 200, mounted as a freestanding group, can be used to form rooms or smaller spaces within the confines of a large room. As indicated in Figures VI-IX, the modular wall panels 200 may include devices for mounting the panels 200 to an adjacent wall or other building structure (not shown). Such devices may include, for example, a bracket 230 mounted on the top panel and a bracket 232 mounted on the bottom panel, as shown in Figures VI and VII. The brackets, 230 and 232, mounted on the panel, can be attached to either or both adjacent modular wall panels 200a and 200b. Preferably, each panel mounted support is attached to only a modular wall panel, to facilitate the assembly of the display system. As indicated in Figure VII, the brackets, 230 and 232, mounted on the panel, can be attached to a bracket 2234 mounted on the wall. This wall-mounted support 234 is preferably fixed to a wall or other structure of the building (not shown) and is adapted to receive, securely but releasably, the brackets 230 and 232 mounted on the panel, fixed to the panel 200 of modular wall, as described above. As indicated in Figure VIII, an alternative embodiment of the devices for mounting the panels 200 is possible. In this mode, an elongated support 240 mounted on the panel, it is attached to either or both modular wall panels, 200a and 200b. In this embodiment, a support 242, mounted on the upper wall and a support 244, mounted on the lower wall, are provided. As indicated in Figure VIII, an alternative element may be employed to join the modular wall panels 200a and 200b together. In this embodiment, the supports 246 are provided in each adjacent panel 200. The supports 246 can be securely, but releasably, joined together by any conventional means, such as by a set of threaded nuts and screws. As indicated in Figure IX, another modality of devices for mounting modular wall panels is available. In Figures IX and IX ', the slightly modified modular wall panels 202a and 202b are shown. In this embodiment, the panels 202a and 202b are each appended to a modified fin wall 14a and 16a, and to a mounting beam 248. The panels 202, the fin walls 14a and 16a and the mounting beams 248 are interconnected by conventional means, such as by screws, rubber or other resources. The panels 202, the fin walls 14a and 16a and the mounting beams 248 can be fixed separately as separate units. Such a unit comprises, for example, the panel 202a, the fin wall 14a and a support 248. This unit can be permanently assembled. A unit analogous is formed by the panel 202b, the fin wall 16a and a support 248. Adjacent units, thus assembled, can both be joined together and mounted to a wall or other structure of the building by a support 249 that mounts a wall of an unit, as shown in Figures IX and IX '. The support 249 that mounts the unit wall may have other shapes such as a lower unit mounting bracket 249a. The above devices for assembling and joining together modular wall panels are conventional and equivalent devices can be substituted without departing from the scope of the present invention. The display unit of the invention may contain one or more non-retractable (stationary) shelves in addition to or in place of the retractable shelf 20. Figure I illustrates the shelf 34 for mounting a non-retractable dead chamber. Additional support for the chamber can be provided by extending the length of the shelf 34, the length of the interior of the cabinet defined by the rear wall 12 and the fin walls 14 and 16. Due to the torsion imparted by the retractable shelf in the extended position It is better that the retractable shelf be placed in the lower section of the display unit when using a stationary shelf in combination with a retractable shelf.
A source of illumination can be hidden from the viewer within the cornice design, preferably along vertical beams of the cornice system. An exemplary source of illumination is that of track lights or pendants, which can be easily manipulated, so that light is directed on the selected goods, within the display system. Track lights or pendants 70 are secured by conventional screws or nuts and bolts to the interior surface of vertical beams 62 and 64, as shown in Figure IV. The vertical beams, 62 and 64, in Figure IV, of a cornice assembly, can be secured to the rear wall of the display unit and the horizontal beam secured to the vertical beam by various known means, for example by an accessory RTA, by a threaded screw connection, by the gravity lock method, or otherwise known in the art. The preferred connection element is the ready-to-assemble accessory ("RTA") 120, which includes a threaded fastener, such as a machine threaded screw, extending longitudinally outwardly from the end of the receiving member and attached to a threaded nut or other threaded retainer. For example, the screw head of the RTA accessory can extend from the rear wall of the connecting element. The receiving element is attached to the receiving end.
Figure IV shows a method of securing the cornice assembly to the rear wall 12. The vertical beams, 62 and 64, are secured to the rear wall 12 by threaded screws, which extend from the rear of the rear wall panel 12 on the vertical beam. The mounting brackets are secured to the upper part 124 and the bottom 122 of the front vertical beams 62 and 64. Corresponding screws are inserted in the rear part of the horizontal beam 66, which intertwined into the slot 128 of the mounting bracket 120 The configurations for use in the invention can furthermore be characterized as a modular display system, in which the modular units are pre-fabricated and removably joined together to create the desired cabinet configurations. In this way, the pieces of the display unit can be mixed or coincidental, as well as purchased concurrently with each other or at different times. Some or all of the above embodiments of the invention can be configured to present multiple cabinets, primarily for use in preliminary presentation rooms. Figure V illustrates four cabinets 92, 94, 96 and 98. Cabinets 94 and 96 present sectional coffins (approximately one-quarter size). Cabinets 92 and 98 present the top and bottom of coffins of full size. The lower casket 100 in the cabinet 98 is on a retractable shelf. The cornice 60 of the cabinet 98 contains track lights or pendants 70. The preferred embodiment of the mortuary goods system of the present invention includes at least one display unit 10, as described above, having two fin wall panels, 14 and 16, spaced, vertical and parallel a vertical rear wall 12, having lateral edges secured to the rear edges of the fin wall panels. In this system, the rear wall 12 preferably supports the fin panel panels, 14, 16, and keeps them in a vertical position. The preferred system further includes a retractable shelf 18, for a dead confinement chamber, as described above. The shelf includes the horizontal beams, front and rear, 20a, 20b, in which the ends of the horizontal beams are connected by the vertical beam 22. The shelf is preferably placed between the two finned wall panels, vertical spaced, and it is attached to the fin wall panels by means of a sliding mechanism. The preferred embodiment further includes a plurality of modular wall panels 200, in which a first of these panels is releasably attached to the display unit. Additional modular wall panels 200 can be attached to one end of the first of the panels, to form a wall of any desired length. Additional modular wall panels 200 can be mounted perpendicular to the first modular wall panel and thus form a complete or partial enclosure. A second modular wall panel can be releasably attached to the side of the display unit, opposite to that to which the first modular panel is attached. The plurality of modular wall panels can only be arranged to define spaces, distinct and separate, so that one or more of the display units can be placed separately from between the display units. The purpose of such an arrangement is to provide separate and separate units that offer mortuary merchandise for different purposes. For example, it may be desirable to offer merchandise related to the burial, separately from merchandise related to cremation. Similarly, it may be convenient to offer accessories and other furnishings in a separate location from the confinement chambers. It is also desirable to offer mortuary merchandise separately from the salts used for other mortuary functions, such as exhibition salts or salts of memorial services. As pointed out in Figures X and XI, the system of the present invention can also include another type of modular wall panels, named here as a panel of modular cavity door. Such modular cavity door panels 300 preferably have a passage through the panel and a door that can be moved to open and close the passageway. The preferred cavity modular door panel 300 includes a cavity door 320, which can be removed from the passage in the wall panel 300 to which it is mounted. The preferred cavity door 320 is mounted on a U-shaped guide rail and can be retracted in a sliding manner from the passages. Preferably, the cavity door 320 is retracted within the modular cavity door panel 300. In this embodiment, the door 32 'is a sliding panel or conventional cavity door, which has small wheels mounted to move in the track, thereby allowing the cavity door 320 to move smoothly back and forth. The cavity door 320 is thus movable from a portion, generally concealed, within the modular cavity door panel, to a position that closes the passage between adjacent rooms or spaces. The preferred U-shaped guide rail for the door is similar to that described above for the sliding mechanism of the shelf 18. Alternatively, as shown in Figure X ', the modular wall panel may include one. door 330, which is mounted on one side of the lateral modular wall panel 310. In this embodiment, the side modular wall panel 310 includes a passage, but does not include a panel 300 double layer in which the door can be retracted. Rather, in this embodiment, the door 330 is mounted adjacent to a side of the modular side wall panel 310. Preferably, as with the cavity door mode, in the side door embodiment, the door includes rolling wheels for mounting and roll on a U-shaped guide rail, mounted on the side modular wall panel 310, as described above. In both the cavity door and side door embodiments, the doors and mounting elements are conventional and can be replaced with several other conventional elements, without departing from the scope of the present invention. Thus, the system can be constructed such that the plurality of modular wall panels, together with one or more of the modular cavity door panels, can be assembled to define separate rooms of other rooms or spaces. The system thus allows the user to provide rooms or separate spaces to display exhibition units or other mortuary merchandise or to provide other services related to death. Preferably at least one of the rooms encloses one or more display units. Modular wall panels 200 can be self-stable, separated from and not attached to, or associated with any display unit. In such an embodiment, the modular wall panels 200 are used to form a dala or other separate space for use in mortuary articles other than to display dead confinement chambers. As shown in Figure XII, the mortuary merchandise system can be constructed so that a display unit is mounted in front of the modular wall panel or the modular cavity wall. Alternatively, the modular wall panel 200 can be replaced and serve as a rear wall of the display unit. Such modality is shown in Figure IX as previously described. As noted in Figure V, cabinet 96 also contains indications 38, used primarily to record information about goods within the cabinet. This cabinet 96 also contains retractable drawers 44, used mainly for ornamental goods. Fin wall panels that join two separate cabinets can share a common wall panel. Alternatively, the display may consist of different cabinets contiguous with each other. To give each unit a more uniform appearance, the tang 150, as indicated in Figure IV, can extend from the fin wall panel into the vertical beam of the cornice. Reduced receivers on the beam The vertical and the fin wall panel serve as the means that accepts the end of the spike. A finish on any or all surfaces of the merchandise display unit may be placed to coordinate more closely with the merchandise displayed. For example, when the merchandise displayed is from chests or coffins, the rear and fin walls of the display unit "may be pigmented to highlight the colors of the merchandise." Various modifications may be made in the nature, composition, operation and arrangement of the merchandise. the various elements, steps and procedures described herein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as defined in the following claims.
