Description

FILTER, PARTICULARLY A FILTER OF AIR FOR THE COMBUSTION AIR OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE The present invention relates to a filter, particularly an air filter for the combustion air of an internal combustion engine. From the German patent 35 14 778 a filter cartridge is known, in which the filter element is constituted by a filter element folded in a zig-zag shape. In the terminal discs of the filter element, support tubes are provided, which are constituted particularly of plastic and are provided with reinforcement rings. A disadvantage of this filter cartridge is given by the fact that a replacement of the filter element can only take place in conjunction with the support tubes. It is also known to arrange a filter element on a sheet support tube. However, this sheet metal tube must be provided as an additional element in the filter housing and therefore represents a higher manufacturing input and higher production costs. The present invention therefore has the purpose of providing a filter, which is inexpensively manufacturable, causes lower disposal costs and has a stable construction under pressure. Said purpose is satisfied starting from the exordium of the main claim, in that the support element is constituted by at least one ensiform support disposed in the housing. A considerable advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that additional support elements, additional support tubes or the like are not required, since the ensiform support is a component part of the housing. With this measure, the elimination of such additional component parts is also superfluous. In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the present invention, said ensiform support extends to the position in which the greatest flexion of the filter medium occurs, ie approximately up to the middle zone of the filter medium. With this measure both support is achieved in said area, as well as in the outer areas through which the ensiform support extends. According to a further development, there are provided on the cover, which seals the housing, other ensiform supports or fixing elements for the filter medium. Said cover serves accordingly on the one hand for the complementary positioning of the filter medium and on the other hand for the stabilization thereof. In another embodiment, it has been proposed to provide the ensiform supports with support shoes. With said support shoes it is possible to support a larger area of the filter medium, avoiding the same simultaneous point peaks of pressure in the support zone. According to another embodiment of the present invention, said filter medium can be provided with cords of adhesive, which improve the internal stability of the filter medium. Said cords of adhesive also serve as points or support areas for the ensiform support. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the filter cover can be mounted on the housing without additional sealing elements. For this purpose, sealing lips have been formed in the cover made of thermoplastic, as well as in the housing which in turn is made of thermoplastic. The sealing lips may additionally be formed as labyrinth-shaped joints. These and other advantageous features of preferred embodiments of the invention are derived, in addition to the claims, also from the description and from the drawings, each of the features being realizable by itself or in combination with others, in the subject field of the invention and in other fields and presents a version susceptible to protection that is requested with the present application. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention have been illustrated in the drawings and will be described in more detail below, illustrating: Figure 1, two halves of axial sections of a filter.
Figure 2 illustrates a portion cut away in side view.
Figure 3 is a variant of the closing elastic element. The filter according to FIG. 1 is constituted by a filter housing 12, which has an impure air inlet 11, a pure air outlet 12 and a cover 13. The housing and the cover are advantageously made of plastic by injection molding. . A filtering element 14 is arranged in the housing, which is constituted by a folded filter paper in the form of a zig-zag (filtering medium). Said filtering element has at its end end faces sealing discs 15, 16, which are constituted by way of example of soft foamed polyurethane material. Said sealing discs serve on the one hand to seal the front faces and on the other hand to seal the filter element 14 in radial sealing walls 17, 18 of the housing and of the cover, respectively. In the upper axial section, both the housing 10 and the cover 13 are each provided with an ensiform support 19, 20. Each of said ensiform supports extends to approximately 1/3 of the length of the filter element 14. in its interior hollow space. The filter element 14 is provided with so-called adhesive cords 21, 22, on which the respective ensiform supports rest. In the lower axial cut the filter housing is provided with a ensiform support 23, which extends to the axial half of the filter element 14. At this point, the filter element also has a bead of adhesive 24 on which the support rests. ensiform 23. The lid 13 is provided only with a fixing element 25, which has the purpose of positioning the filter element 14 during the closure of the lid 13. The lid 13 is provided in its lower area with an opening 26, which is sealed by means of a screen valve 27 and serves for the evacuation of coarse granulometry. For the sealing between the lid 13 and the filter housing 10, the lid is provided with a lip seal 28 on the contact surface.
Said lip seal is prestressed on a sealing surface 29 of the housing and ensures a reliable sealing of the impure air area of the air filter. Figure 2 illustrates a sectional view of the ensiform supports 23a to 23g, which are provided with support shoes 30 to 37, the latter being supported directly, as illustrated on the right side, on the filter media folded in zigzag shape 38, as well as on the adhesive cord 24 applied on the filter medium 38. Figure 3 illustrates a variant of a closure element, which serves to fix the cover 13 on the housing 10. Also in this In this case, the lid 13 is provided with a lip seal 28, which sits on the sealing face 29 of the filter housing. The radial fixing of the cover on the filter housing takes place by means of an annular groove 39 provided in the housing 10. In said annular groove a bead 40 of the cover is inserted, said bead 40 settles on the bottom of the annular groove and defines with it an axial stop for the lid 13. with this measure an excessive bending of the lip seal is avoided. As a closing element, a wire stirrup closure 41 can be selected as an example. In fact, other variants are also possible, such as, for example, latching, latching or the like.
