DETAILED DESCRPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITIES The self-closing slide fastener fasteners according to the preferred embodiments of this invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 shows an automatic closing slide fastener according to a first embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, the automatic closing slide is assembled with four members, that is to say, a slide body 1, a pull tab 2, a retaining leaf spring 3 and a cover 4. Sliding body 1, tongue 2 and the cover 4 are molded of metal, for example an aluminum alloy or a zinc alloy, by die casting, while the leaf spring 3 fastening to the cover 4 are formed from a metal plate by pressing. The slide body 1 is composed of fins 5, 6 upper and lower joined at their front ends by a guide post 7, each of the upper and lower tongues 5, 6 having, along the opposite lateral edges a pair of side flanges 8 to guide the elements in order to defining between the upper and lower fins 5, 6 and lower, an element guide channel 9. The self-closing slide is suitable for a chain of the slide fastener wherein a row of slide fastener elements is in the form of discrete fastener elements fixed to each of the confronting inner edges of the opposite slide fastener tapes. or in the form of a linear monofilament in the form of a zigzag above the zip fastener tape. Alternatively, for a chain of the slide fastener where a row of fastener elements is fixed in the shape of a linear monofilament wound on each of the confronting inner edges of the tapes of the opposite slide fastener, one of the upper fins is bottom can be free of side tabs. The slide body 1 has at its upper fin 5 protrusions 10, 11 front and rear fastening for fixing the cover 4. The front fixing projection 10 has on its upper surface a central projection 12, on each of the opposite sides of the central projection 12 a taper surface 13 sloping gradually towards a rear end of the slide to hold the fastener leaf spring 3, and also a slot 32 between the taper surfaces 13 at the rear of the projection 12. The slot 32 is formed in a position in such a manner so as to corresponds to a free end 22 'folded downwardly of a resilient tongue 22 of the leaf spring 3, which will be described later, when the spring 3 is mounted on the front fixing projection 10.
Likewise, the upper flap 5 has, in a position near the rear fixing projection 10 and towards the front fixing projection 11, an insertion hole 14 of the clamping pawl communicating with the guide channel 9 of the element in a position between the insertion hole 14 of the retaining pawl and the front attachment projection 10, a guide surface 15 that is gradually inclined to guide an axis 19 of the pull tab 2. In a rearward position of the front fastening lug 10, the upper fin 5 has a pair of laterally aligned small projections 16 extending so that the axis 19 of the pull tab 2 can be held in a stabilized position between the projection 15. of guidance and small projections 16. In a position proximate the front fixing projection 10 and towards the front end of the slide body 1, the upper fin 5 has on its upper surface a longitudinal slot 17. The pull tab 2 is in the shape of a rectangular plate according to this embodiment, but it can be in any of several ways. The illustrated pull tongue 2 has at one end portion, an elongated opening 18 through which the cover 4 can be inserted and through one end of which the shaft 19 extends, and at the other end portion, a pair of retaining portions 20 each on each side thereof and in a form of a recess. Also, the pull tab 2 has at one end, a pair of end projections 21 extending in opposite directions for an automatic assembly process. The fastener leaf spring 3 is in the form of a rectangular plate having a longitudinal resilient tongue 22 that is pierced upward to form a central elongated aperture 23. The resilient tongue 22 also has a free end 22 'folded downward which is prevented from being retained on the inner surface of the cover 4 and which effects a smooth sliding of the free end 22' when the spring 3 slides. Therefore, the resilient tongue 22 which resiliently contacts an inner surface of the cover 4 when assembled. Likewise, the fastener leaf spring 3 has one end a fastening pawl 24 bent downwards to be inserted in the insertion hole 14 of the fastening pawl, and at the other end a hook 25 bent downwards to be coupled with the front fixing projection 10. In addition, the opposite side edges 26 of the elongate aperture 23 are formed to be supported on the taper surface 13 at the top of the front fastening boss 10.
The cover 4 is in the form of an elongated box having on the opposite side walls 27 a pair of laterally aligned cut-outs 28 through which the shaft 19 of the pull tab 2 is to be inserted, and in the lower portion of the latter. a front wall, a front projection 29 extending downwards to be fitted in the longitudinal slot 17 of the upper flap 5, so that the cover 4 is fixed to the front and rear fastening openings 10, 11 to cover the projections 10, 11 for front and rear fastening defining a space 30 between the internal surface of the front wall of the cover 4, and the front fixing projection 10. To assemble the slide, the shaft 19 of the pull tab 2 is positioned between the guide surface 15 and the small projections 16 on the upper tab 5, and then, the fastener leaf spring 3 is positioned above the axle 19 of the pull tongue 2 with the holding pawl 24 inserted in the insertion hole 14 of the holding pawl and with the hook 25 coupled with the front fixing projection 10. During this time, the projection 12 on the upper part of the front fastening shoulder 10 is received in the elongated opening 23 of the fastener leaf spring 3., and the opposite lateral edges 26 of the elongated opening 23 of the fastener leaf spring 3 are supported on the tapering surface 13 inclined at the top of the front fastening boss 10. Then, the cover 4 is placed in order to cover the front and rear fastening projections 10, 11 with the front projection 29 received in the longitudinal slot 17 of the upper fin 5, and then the opposite side walls 27 of the cover 24 they fix against the projections 10, 11 of front and rear fastening, thus ending the assembly of the slide 1. During operation, when the pull tab 2 is pulled forward and upward, the fastener leaf spring 3 is lifted for removing the holding pawl 24 from the space between the adjacent elements 31 of the slide fastener so that the slide can slide in the closure chain to close the slide fastener. If the pull tab 2 is released, the catch pawl 24 of the fastener blade spring 3 is inserted into the space between the adjacent elements 31 of the closure by the action of the resilient tongue 22 so that the slide is prevented from slipping in. the chain of the closure shown in Figure 2. If a load in the opening direction of the slide fastener is exerted on the slide body 1 while holding the slide, even if the slide body 1 is moved backwards to some extent until the holding pawl 24 is placed in contact with the front wall 14 'of the insertion hole 14 of the clamping pawl as shown in Figure 3, further movement of the slide is prevented. If the pull tab 2 is pulled back, the shaft 19 moves along the guide surface 15 and, as a result, the fastener leaf spring 3 is lifted to remove the catch pawl 24 from the space between the pins. adjacent elements 31 of the closure as shown in Figure 4, so that the slide can slide in the closure chain to open the slide fastener. Figure 5 shows a modified self-closing slide fastener fastener according to a second embodiment of the invention, which is identical in construction to the slide of the first embodiment with the exception that the front fastening nose 10 on the fin 5 upper and the leaf spring 3 are modified. The modified front attachment projection 10 does not have a projection on its upper part nor on its front surface a vertical slot 32 defining a space 30 and having a depth greater than the thickness of the modified fastener leaf spring 3.
As shown in Figure 6, the modified leaf spring 3 is in the form of an elongated rectangular plate having at one end a holding pawl 24 folded down and at the other end a small wide pawl 25 bent toward down. As in the first embodiment, the modified leaf spring 3 also has a resilient tongue 22 pierced upwardly from a portion of the rectangular plate toward a hook 25 so as to form a central elongated opening 23. To assemble the modified slider, the fastener leaf spring 3 is placed on the upper fin 5 such that the hook 25 is engaged in the vertical slot 32 so as to be movable within the space 30 and that the opposite side edges 26 The opening 23 are held on the flat upper surface of the front fixing projection 10. The ratchet 24 is inserted into the insertion hole 14 of the clamping pawl and above the clamping leaf spring 3, the cover 4 is fixed to the front and rear fastening lugs 10, 11 in such a way that the resilient tongue 22 Spring 3 fastener blade resiliently contacts the upper surface of the roof ceiling 4.
With the automatic closing slide fastener of this invention, the following advantageous results can be achieved. According to a first aspect of the invention, since the upper flap 5 of the slide body 5 in which a cover 4 is mounted has a hole 14 for inserting the fastening pawl while a fastener leaf spring 3 accommodates in the cover 4 and having on its upper surface a resilient tongue 22 and at the other end a folded holding pawl 24, is longitudinally movable on the upper wing 5 and since the holding pawl 24 is brought into contact with a wall 14 'front of the insertion hole 14 of the holding pawl when the spring 3 moves forward, the holding pawl 24 is prevented from deforming even when a load is exerted on the pawl 24 due to the coupling elements, thereby obtaining a reliable clamping operation. According to the second aspect of the invention, since the upper flap 5 has front and rear fixing projections 10, 11 to which the cover 4 is fixed, and the fastener leaf spring 3 has at the other end a hook 25. which is bent in the same direction as the holding pawl 24 and slidably engaged with the front fastening shoulder 10, it is possible to retain the fastener blade spring 3 slidably in a stabilized position thereby achieving a uniform clamping operation. According to the third aspect of the invention, since the hook of the fastener leaf spring 3 is movable within the space 30 defined between the cover 4 and the front fastening shoulder 10, the fastener leaf spring 3 can move uniformly and reliably inside the cover 4. According to the fourth aspect of the invention, since the fastener leaf spring 3 has an elongated opening 23 formed by piercing a resilient tongue 22, and the front fastening nose 10 has a projection on its upper part. 12 received loosely in the opening 23 and on the opposite sides of the projection 12 a tapering surface 13 inclined backwards, where both side edges 26 of the opening 23 are held in such a way that the fastener leaf spring 3 adopts a inclined position, it is then possible to retain the spring 3 in a stabilized position in the slide body 1, thereby maintaining the spring 3 exe of damage or problems and therefore improving durability. According to the fifth aspect of the invention, due to the existence of the slot 32, the end 22 'of the resilient tongue 22 is prevented from coming into contact with an upper surface of the front fixing projection 10 when the spring 3 of the blade slides back and forth or vertically pivots, thus achieving a uniform movement of the spring 3. According to the sixth aspect of the invention, since the front fastening lug 10 has on its front surface a vertical slot 32 having a horizontal "U" shaped cross section where the hook 25 of the fastener leaf spring 3 is received in order to be movable in directions back and forth, it is possible to retain the spring 3 in the stable slide body 1 easily, and to place the spring 3 so as not to be damaged, thereby improving the durability. According to the seventh aspect of the invention, since the upper flap 5 of the slide body 1 has a guide surface 15 inclined forward, in front of the insertion hole 14 of the fastening pawl, it is possible to lift the leaf spring 3 fastener easily and reliably by the action of the pull tab 2, thereby releasing the pawl 24 so that the slider can slide uniformly in the chain of the fastener.
