Description

ASSEMBLY PERFORATOR OF AERIAL FOR BOLT GUNS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The invention relates generally to an adapter for an earring bolt, and more particularly, to a device and method for using a conventional earring bolt gun with earrings of a variety of shapes and sizes. It has become common to pierce ears and install an earring bolt in an individual operation, in jewelries, stores, warehouses, and the like. This procedure has become common due to the availability of "bolt guns" to hold an earring bolt and hook a pole type earring and use the pointed arrow of the bolt to pierce the ear and install the bolt in an individual movement. Examples of bolt guns and their methods of use are described in the patents of E.U.A. Nos. 4, 030, 507; 4,921, 494; 4,931,060; 5,007,918, and 5,263,960, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. A simplified version of a conventional bolt gun is generally shown as a bolt gun 100 in Figure 1. The bolt gun 100 is designed to insert a conventional earring bolt 200, shown generally in Figure 2, into an ear lobe for piercing. The bolt gun 100 includes a plunger shaft 10 having a plunger 120 at its end. The plunger 120 includes a cavity 130 defined by a generally cylindrical internal surface having a generally parallel cross section for receiving the bolt 100. The earring bolt 200 is a pole type earring having an ornamental portion 210 and an arrow 220. The arrow 220 is designed with a pointed end 230 for piercing the earlobe and is configured to be received on a brooch 240. The pins are generally configured with a usually cylindrical shape, with a substantially circular cross section and walls parallel to the arrow 220. The ornamental portion 210 is dimensioned to fit snugly in the cavity 130 of the plunger 120, so that when the pin 200 is used to pierce an ear, the arrow 220 is not pivoted significantly with respect to the plunger 120. The pin 240 it is mounted on a clasp bracket 140 of the gun 100 and during use, the plunger 120 is pushed towards the bracket e of brooch 140, so that the end 230 pierces the ear and enters a hole 245 in the brooch 240, whereby the brooch 240 secures the bolt 200 to an ear. Referring to Figure 3, a bolt gun 100 will not work properly with a more decorative earring 400, which has a spherical ornamental portion 21 1 opposite the uniform shape of the bolt. As shown in Figure 3, if the earring has a non-cylindrical ornamental portion, it can pivot in the cavity 130, as indicated by the double arrows A. Similarly, the earrings that are smaller than the cavity 130, will move during the drilling procedure. As is evident from the foregoing, it is not practical to use a conventional pin gun with earrings having a wide variety of ornamental shapes and sizes, since many desired shapes will not provide a snug fit within the plunger 120. The snug fit in the cavity 130 of a conventional bolt gun which prevents pivoting during insertion. To overcome the problem of bolts of different sizes, conventional bolt guns use interchangeable size conversion adapters 300 of varying sizes to accommodate several sized bolts, as shown in Figure 4, to allow the use of bolt stud earrings. different sizes, such as pin 200 'with an ornamental portion 210' of larger diameter. However, the problems encountered when looking for the use of a wide variety of earring shapes have not been overcome in a totally satisfactory way. In addition, it is not desirable for a user to need to maintain a large selection of adapters for various sizes. One way to pierce an ear with an earring that has a non-cylindrical shape has been to sell earrings packed in capsules, suitable for use with custom designed guns, as set forth in the U.S.A. patent. No. 4,030,507. Another aspect has been to sell an earring already installed in a molded plastic device, of multiple pieces, for individual use, disposable, to hold the pole and hook and insert the pole through the ear lobe on the clasp. Since the earring is provided inside the gun body, it can not be seen before installation. Rather, the plastic product is constructed completely around the housing and is designed to be discarded after each use. Accordingly, it is desirable to provide a product and method for using a conventional pin gun to install earrings having ornamental portions with a wide variety of shapes and configurations.
COMPENDIUM OF THE INVENTION Generally speaking, according to the invention, a product and method for using a conventional pin-type gun to pierce an ear and install an earring, which may have an ornamental portion with a wide variety of shapes and configurations, are provided. To accomplish this method, an earring retainer is provided with a housing having an interior cavity sized to conform generally to the external dimensions of the ornamental portion of a post-type earring and a tubular sized portion to generally conform to a portion of the arrow of the earring, and an external shape to conform to the interior of a conventional bolt piston plunger, so that when the earring bolt is enclosed within the earring retainer housing, the retainer will fit snugly in the plunger of a Conventional bolt gun and the earring will not pivot or will change significantly with respect to the plunger during use. The earring retainer preferably has an external shape with mating surfaces to match the interior of the plunger of the plunger gun or plunger adapter and parallel to the direction of an earring arrow extending out of the housing. In a preferred embodiment, the retainer is in the form of symmetrical halves.
After use, the seal halves can be designed to fall and leave the earring in place. The earring retainer can also have a physical attachment, such as a notch or flange, so that it can be releasably mounted on a handling device and placed on the plunger of the bolt gun without the need for the user to touch any portion of earring or earring before use.
Said handling device may include two U-shaped notches for releasably mounting the detent and may also include depressions or other physical fittings to releasably secure the brooch portion of the earring. Accordingly, it is an object of the invention to provide a product and method for allowing the use of a conventional pin gun with earrings having ornamental portions of various sizes and configurations. Another object of the invention is to provide an improved product and method for inserting an earring into a conventional bolt gun, without the need to touch the earring. Other objects and advantages of the invention will be partly obvious and partly evident from the following specification and drawings. The invention therefore comprises the various steps and the relationship of one or more of said steps with respect to each other, and the apparatus that modalizes aspects of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements of the parts that are adapted to effect such steps, all as illustrated in the following detailed description, and the scope of the invention will be indicated in the claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS For a more complete understanding of the invention, reference has been made to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional bolt gun showing a pole type earring conventional and an earring pin installed in it; Figure 2 is a perspective view of a conventional post type earring used with the pin gun of Figure 1, placed on an ear after piercing; Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of an earring with a spherical ornamental head pivoting on the piston of a conventional bolt gun of the prior art; Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of an adapter for the piston of a bolt gun as used in the prior art; Figure 5 is an exploded plan view of the halves of an earring retainer constructed in accordance with one embodiment of the invention; Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 6-6 of Figure 5; Figure 7 is a cross sectional view of an earring retainer during use with a plunger adapter, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention; Figure 8 is an exploded view of an earring piercing assembly for a pair of earrings according to an embodiment of the invention; and Figure 9 is a partial cross-sectional view showing a piston of a conventional bolt gun for removing an earring enclosed in an earring retainer of the bolt block, according to one embodiment of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITIES Referring generally to Figures 5-7, an earring retainer according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, generally shown as 500, is formed of a housing having a first half 501 and a second half 502. Each half of the retainer 500 is formed with an inner cavity of two stages, identified as cavities 51 1 and 512 in the halves 501 and 502, respectively. The halves 501 and 502 of the detent are each also provided with a pin 521 extending from each respective half 501 and 502, and a depression 522 within the respective halves 501 and 502. Each cavity 51 1 and 512 is formed as a cavity of two stages having a first ornamental cavity portion of step 530 and a second arrow reception cavity portion of step 540. The shape of portion 530 is selected to form a cavity, as described below, to receive the shapes Ornamental The form used in this mode is only by way of example. The housing of the retainer 500 has an external cylindrical overall shape and a diameter of approximately 0.6477 cm. However, the diameter may be larger or smaller. The detent 500 may include at least one outer wall 503, which resembles the shape of a conventional bolt to prevent movement of the detent 500 once inserted in the bolt gun. By way of example, a cylinder is used, but the outer wall 503 may be configured in any acceptable manner to match the inside of a conventional bolt piston plunger. Similarly, the external dimensions of the retainer may vary if necessary. The alternative embodiments are advantageously less than about 1.016 cm. If they are sized to fit in a conventional bolt piston piston, without an adapter size, they should have an external diameter of approximately 0.4064 cm.
When the halves 501 and 502 of the retainer are joined together, the pins 522 are received by the respective depressions 521, and also the halves 51 1, 512 with each other. When the retainer halves 501 and 502 combine to form the retainer 500, the central depressions 51 1 and 512 combine to form a first stage cavity of step 530 and a second arrow cavity of stage 540 of tubular shape. The ornamental cavity 530 is formed and sized to generally conform to the ornamental portion of a post type earring 600 (Figure 8) having an ornamental head 620 that does not fit properly in the piston of a conventional pin gun. Thus, if the ornamental head portion 620 of the earring 600 is cube-shaped, then the cavity 530 of the retainer 500 can be formed and dimensioned, to receive a diamond-like earring of this type in a multi-pronged fixation, with Cone shape, with sphere shape, and so on, or even with cylindrical shape. Referring to Figure 7, the second arrow cavity of step 540 is formed to closely receive an arrow 650 of the earring 600. The arrow cavity 540 must be long enough to help substantially prevent the earring 600 from pivoting with respect to the catch 500, so that it will be inserted straight through the ear towards a clasp. If the arrow cavity 540 is too long, it will interfere with the ability of an arrow end 630 to exit far enough through the ear to engage a clasp. The arrow cavity 540 must have a diameter that is large enough that it does not prevent the halves from closing, and not too large to allow excessive movement of the arrow 650. A bolt gun adapter may allow a bolt gun be used with a variety of different bolts configured. A bolt gun adapter 700 (Figure 7) includes a male portion 710 having a generally cylindrical shape with a diameter to fit snugly in the receptacle 130 of the plunger 120. The male portion 710 may include a friction member 715, such as a rubber or U-shaped plastic ring to prevent the plunger size converter 700 from sliding out of the receptacle 130 during use. The plunger adapter 700 also includes a female portion 720 having a receptacle 730 sized to securely receive a bolt. The internal diameter of the receptacle 730 is configured to provide a snug fit with a pin. In the event that the outer diameter of the retainer 500 is larger than the diameter of the cavity 130 of the plunger 120, the bolt piston adapter 700 can be used to increase the available external diameters, which can be used for detents. of earring that can be used with a conventional bolt gun. The detent 500 should be formed with a sufficient length to allow a secure fit within the depression 130 or gun adapter 700. However, the length should not be too large, so that it may be difficult to handle. An earring retainer, according to the invention, can be provided with a physical attachment to allow installation on the plunger (or plunger adapter) of a bolt gun, without the need to touch the adapter. As shown in Figure 5, the retainer 500 can be provided with a groove 550 defined by a pair of opposing surfaces 551 and 552 forming a dovetail end 510. Reference will now also be made to Figures 7-9, where A carrier is shown to carry the retainer of an earring piercing assembly. A carrier block 800 for transporting ear piercing earrings includes a body 810 having a pair of U-shaped grooves 820 in a cantilever mount 830 of the body 810. Each depression 820 includes a flange 840 extending along the length of the body. length of the slot 820. The surfaces 551 and 552 of the detent 500 receive the flange 840, as the retainer 500 slides in the direction of the arrows B towards the slot 820. The slot 820 is dimensioned so that the flange 840 avoid the separation of the halves 51 1, 512, when they are maintained by the carrier block 800. The carrier block 800 can now be used to transport the earring 600 from the site of the retainer assembly to the perforation site.
Ear piercing earrings, such as 600, are used to pierce ears with a 850 grip (Figure 8). Therefore, in order to facilitate the drilling process and the transport of pairs of piercing earring grips, in a preferred embodiment, the grips 850 can also be transported on the carrier block 800. The body 810 is formed with a blind channel 805. The blind channel 805 includes a rib 807 disposed thereon. The conventional grips 850 are formed as a single piece of elastic material having a C-shaped configuration, forming two symmetrical loops 81 1 and 813. An opening 809 is provided in the material for receiving the piercing pin 630 of the earring 600 and is coaxial with the space between the ends 813. The rib 807 disposed within the blind channel 805 has a width slightly greater than the space between the ends 813 to form a tension adjustment therebetween. The grip 850 can be slid over the bolt gun directly from the carrier block 800. As a result, if properly sized, the body 810 can be used to transfer the grip 850 to a bolt gun, without the need to touch the grip 850. During use, an ear piercing earring assembly 900 is assembled, which includes the retainer 500, the earring 600 and the carrier block 800. An ornamental earring 600 is selected and halves 51 1 and 512 are placed around the ornamental head 620 of the earring 600. The pin 521 of each half 51 1, 512, respectively, of the retainer 500, is inserted into the corresponding depression 522 of the other half to arrange the ornamental head 620 within the cavity 530 of the retainer 500 and the arrow 650 within the cavity portion 540 of the detent 500. The retainer 500 is then slid in the direction of the arrow B along a ridge 840 of a slot 820, keeping the halves 51 1, 512 of the catch 500 around the ear piercing earring 600. At the same time, the grips 850 are placed within the blind channels 805, respectively. Next, the assembly 900 is sterilized and packaged for shipping, preferably in a sterile container with a transparent viewing portion. At the drilling site, the piercing assembly 900 is removed from the package. The detent 500 is placed inside the adapter 700 (shown in Figures 7,9) or the plunger of the bolt gun itself. The detent 500 with the earring 600 then slides from the groove 820. Since the retainer 500 is configured and formed to provide a snug fit with the interior of the adapter 700, the adapter 700 keeps the halves of the retainer 500 around the ornamental head 620 of the ear piercing earring 600 and also prevents the retainer 500 from pivoting during the piercing process. The grip 850 is then placed on the anvil of the bolt gun and the ear is pierced in a conventional manner. After finishing the drilling procedure, the plunger of the bolt gun is moved away from the ear, so that the retainer 500 is disconnected from the bolt gun. Without acting to keep the halves in contact with each other, they can be easily separated to expose the ornamental head of the ear piercing earring or they can simply fall by their own weight, if the pins in the depressions are dimensioned in order not to form an interference setting. To pierce an ear and install a post-type earring, which is not necessarily fixed properly in the piston of a conventional bolt gun, in a single step, in a clean and convenient manner, first, an earring is provided that has an arrow portion and an ornamental portion. Next, an earring retainer is provided. The retainer must have external dimensions to fit snugly in the piston of a conventional bolt gun or a piston adapter that changes the diameter of the depression in the piston of a conventional bolt gun, so that the adapter does not change, pivot or otherwise move significantly during use. Preferred earring retainers are formed with an internal cavity dimensioned to releasably secure the earring with respect to the earring retainer during use, substantially conforming to the dimensions of the ornamental portion of the earring and to allow the arrow to extend. The earring retainer is preferably formed with two halves, but can be formed in another way. Regardless of the actual shape, the earring retainer should not change or pivot with respect to the bolt gun during use. The retainer is releasably secured on the ornamental portion and preferably at a short length of the arrow of the earring. The earring retainer can have a physical attachment, such as a slot, so that it can be mounted on a support for handling or viewing purposes. A suitable support can have two U-shaped depressions to receive the retainer through a friction fit. In a preferred embodiment, a sufficient part of the retainer extends beyond the upper surface of the support, after assembly, such that a conventional bolt piston pistol, or a bolt gun having an adapter for increasing the diameter of the plunger depression, can be slid over the earring retainer and then used to slide the earring retainer and the earring out of the slots, without the need for a user to touch the earring retainer or the earring. The support may also include depressions or other physical accessories to releasably secure clasps for the earrings, such that the earrings can slide from the holder onto a conventional bolt-pin clasp bracket, without the need for a user to touch the pins. Brooches Thus, a support, such as a carrier block having a pair of earrings enclosed in earring retainers and a pair of earring clips, can be sold as a unit. The unit can be sealed inside a container, such as one that has a clear plastic cover. The earring retainer can also be made of transparent plastic to allow handling and viewing of the earring, without the need to touch the earring, the retainer or any part that may be in contact with an ear during insertion. The support with the earrings and clasps can be removed from the package and only the support needs to be manipulated to install both the earring and the brooch on the bolt gun and then insert the earring through the ear lobe towards the brooch in a way highly sanitary In this way it can be seen that the objects established above, among those that become apparent from the preceding description, are efficiently achieved and, although certain changes can be made to carry out the above method and in the constructions set before without departing of the spirit and scope of the invention, it is intended that all the material contained in the above description and shown in the accompanying drawings should be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. It should also be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all the generic and specific aspects of the invention, described herein, and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a matter of language, should be said to fall between them.
