Description

SHOPPING CART WITH ADVERTISING CARD MOUNTED ON A PLASTIC BASKET PANEL IN IMPROVED FORM TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a shopping cart of a type comprising a wheeled chassis, a handle structure, and a basket fastened on the wheeled chassis and on the handle structure, where the basket comprises a front panel molded from a plastic material and two side panels molded from a plastic material. This invention provides an advertising card mounted on the front panel or one of the side panels in an improved manner allowing a greater variety in size, shape, and location of the advertising card. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION As illustrated and described in Jones et al., US Patent No. 5,253,930, each of the front and side panels of a shopping cart basket of the type indicated above is molded from a plastic material, co or for example high density polyethylene, to have a generally uniform crosslinking of hexagonal structures, each limiting a hexagonal opening. In addition, each of the side panels is molded in such a way that it has a generally rectangular recess with a flat wall, an upper notch, and a lower notch. A generally rectangular frame is presented having an upper tab that fits in the upper notch and a lower tab that is just in the lower notch to retain a cardboard or plastic advertising card between the frame and the flat wall of the recess . Because the recesses are molded into the side panels, the sizes, shapes and locations of the recesses are fixed and govern the sizes, shapes and locations of the advertising cards. In addition, if the advertising cards are removed purposely or accidentally, the flat walls of the recesses are exposed and may affect the appearance of the shopping cart basket. Other shopping trolleys employ snap-fit frames to mount the advertising cards in generally rectangular recesses in the plastic panels of the baskets illustrated in the Rehrig Na North Aericanas Patents. 4,722,639, No. S, 111,604, No. 5,210,968, and No. 5,331,756. In these shopping carts, the sizes, shapes and locations in the advertising cards are governed by the sizes, shapes and locations of the recesses. This invention resulted from the efforts to mount a public card on a molded plastic panel of a shopping cart basket in an improved manner allowing for greater variety in size, shape and location of the advertising card. This invention relates to a shopping cart comprising a wheeled chassis, a handle structure, and a basket attached to the wheeled chassis and the handle structure. The basket comprises a front panel molded of plastic material and two side panels molded of plastic material. Each of the front and side panels has a generally unfocused lattice of polygonal structures, preferably hexagonal structures, each limiting a region in a similar manner. At least most of the regions of similar shape are polygonal openings, and preferably hexagonal openings. In addition, as contemplated by the invention, the shopping cart comprises an advertising card covering a part of a panel selected between the front and side panels and devices including a fastener in an associated region of the similarly shaped regions to hold a advertising card on the selected panel. The fastener can pass through a hole in the advertising card. If the associated region is a polygonal aperture, preferably one. hexagonal opening the clamping device includes a shutter pressed into the polygonal aperture defined by the associated region. The obturator has a hole that receives the fastener. If the bra has a head and an integral stem with the head, and if the rod passes through a hole in the advertising card, in the hole in the shutter, the head stops the advertising card. Alternatively, the associated region is a closed region, except for a hole that receives the fastener. If the fastener has a head and a stem integral with the head, and if the rod passes through a hole in the advertising card, in the hole in the closed region, the head stops the advertising card. In a preferred embodiment, wherein all regions of similar shape of the selected panel define polygonal openings, the fastener is one of numerous fasteners and the shutter is one of an equal number of such fasteners. Each fastener passes through a different hole in the card. Each shutter is pressed into a different opening of the polygonal openings of the selected panel and has a hole that receives an effective fastener. In an alternative embodiment wherein the fastener is one of several of said fasteners associated with the advertising card and wherein the closed region is one of a group associated with the advertising card and comprises an equal number of said closed regions of the selected panel, Each fastener associated with the advertising card passes through a different hole in the advertising card and each closed region of the group associated with the advertising card has a hole that receives a different fastener associated with the advertising card. If it has fine barbs if it is bifurcated to form two tips that tend to separate, the stem of the clip is pushed into the hole in the plug or in the closed region, whereby the clip can not be easily removed. If it has a thread, the rod of the fastener is screwed into the hole in the obturator or in the closed region, whereby the fastener can be easily removed. These and other objects, characteristics, and advantages of this invention are evident from the following description of various contemplated embodiments of this invention with reference to the accompanying drawings. As illustrated and described in the above-mentioned Jones et al patent, the front panel 22 of the plastic basket 18, the side panels 24 of the plastic basket 18, and a bottom panel (not shown) of the basket of plastic 18 are molded from a suitable plastic material such as high density polyethylene, each such that it has a generally uniform crosslinking of hexagonal structures, each limiting a region in a similar manner. In the preferred embodiment of Figure 2 and in the alternative embodiment of Figure 5, all regions of similar shape limited by the hexagonal structures are hexagonal openings 30. In the alternative embodiment of Figure 3 and in the alternative embodiment of the Figure 4, most regions similarly limited by the hexagonal structures are hexagonal openings 30, but some of the regions of similar shape limited by the hexagonal structures are hexagonal regions 40 (shown one) closed except for a hole 44 in each closed region 40 for a purpose which will be described below. Four closed regions are provided for each of the advertising cards 20, either on the front panel 22 or on a side panel 24.
In the preferred embodiment of Figure 2 and in the alternative embodiment of Figure 5, a plug 32 having a hole 34 for a purpose to be described later is pressed tightly into an associated opening of the hexagonal openings 30. The plug 32 it can be made of a suitable metal with, for example, steel, brass with good aluminum or with a suitable plastic such that it has a head 36 and a rod 38, which can have pins or grooves in such a way as to stop the plug 32 in the associated opening 30. The hole 34 extends through the head 36 and through the rod 38. Four shutters 32 of this type are provided for each of the cards 20, either on the front panel 22 or well in a side panel 24, and each plug 32 is pressed into a different opening 30 from the outside of the basket 18 such that the head 36 of each plug 32 bears against the internal surface of the plug. any of the panels 22, 24 having the associated opening 30 that receives the shutter 32. The head 36 prevents such shutter 32 from being safe out through the associated opening 30 receiving such shutter 32. If it is made of a material of cardboard, each advertising card 20 is mounted between two protective sheets, ie an outer sheet 26 and an inner sheet 28, made of a transparent plastic material, suitable, such as polocarbonate, and which protects such advertising card 20 against damage due to ab rae ion or moisture. The advertising card 20 can; be pre-inlaid between the protective sheets, in a known manner. If the advertising card 20 is made of plastic material, the protection sheets are optional. In the preferred embodiment of Figure 2, and in the alternative embodiments of Figures 3, 4, and 5, similar fasteners 50 are used, four for each advertising card 20. Each fastener 50 is made of a suitable metal with or for example Steel, brass or aluminum, or from? a suitable plastic material such that it has a head 52 and a rod 54 with barbs. In the preferred embodiment of Figure 2, the outer sheet 26, and the inner sheet 28 are rectangular, flat sheets. The rod 54 of each fastener 50 passes through an associated hole 58 in the outer sheet 28, an associated hole 60 in the advertising card 20, and an associated hole 62 in the inner sheet 28 and are pressed into the hole 34 in the associated shutter 32. Because the rod 54 has pins, the rod 54 can not easily be taken out of the hole 34 in the associated plug 32. The heads 52 of the fasteners 50 are larger than the respective holes 58, > 0, 62, for retaining the outer sheets 26", the advertising card 20, and the inner sheet 28. The rod 54 of each fastener 30 passes through an associated hole 58 in the outer sheet 26, an associated hole 60 in the advertising card 20, and an associated hole 62 in the inner sheet 28 and is pressed into the hole 44 in the associated region 40. Because the stem 54 has pins, the stem 54 can not be easily removed from the hole 44 in the associated region 40. The heads 52 of the fasteners 50 are larger than the respective holes 58, 60, 62 to * retain the outer sheet 26, the advertising card 20, and the inner sheet 28. End the alternative embodiment of Figure 4, the respective holes 58, 60, 62 have the form of a key hole to have lower parts larger than the holes. heads 52 of the respective fasteners 50 and upper parts smaller than the heads 52 of the respective fasteners, and the respective fasteners 50 are pushed into the holes 34 in the respective shutters 32 to leave a holgur enough for the outer sheet 26, the advertising card 20, and the inner sheet 28. Accordingly, the outer sheet 26, the advertising card 20, and the inner sheet 28 can be easily hung on the respective fasteners 50 and can be easily removed. In the alternative embodiment of Figure 5, the advertising card 20 is a flat rectangular sheet. However, as shown, the outer sheet 26 has two side flanges 70, which cover the side edges of the advertising card 20. Also, the inner sheet 28 has an upper deformation 72 for housing the heads 52 of two upper fasteners. 50, a lower deformation 74 for housing the heads 52 of two fasteners 50, an upper flange 76 defining an upper recess 78 that opens downwards, and a lower flange 82 defining a lower recess 84 that opens upwards. In the upper deformation 72, the inner sheet 28 has two upper holes 92 (one shown) to accommodate the rods 54 of two upper fasteners 50. In the lower deformation 74, the inner sheet 28 has two lower holes 94 (one illustrated ) to accommodate the rods 34 of two lower fasteners 50. The rods 54 of each of the upper fasteners 50 pass through an associated hole 60 in the inner sheet 28, in the upper deformation 72, and is pressed into the hole 34 in the associated shutter 50. The rod 54 of each of the lower fasteners 50 passes through an associated hole 60 in the inner sheet 28, in the lower deflection 72, and is pressurized into the hole 34 in the Opened obturator 32. After having mounted the advertising card 20 on the inner sheet 28, as by means of sliding in the upper recess 78 and the lower recess 84, the outer sheet 26 is bent, as shown in FIG. shown in Figure 6, to allow the upper edge 86 of the outer sheet 26 to fit in the upper recess 78 and to allow the lower edge 88 of the outer sheet 26 to fit in the lower recess 84. Therefore, as shown, the outer sheet 26 covers the heads 32 of the fasteners 50 as well as the advertising panel 20. As shown in Figure 7, a fastener 50 'made of a suitable metal such as steel, brass, or aluminum, or from a suitable plastic material such that it has a head 52 ', slotted to receive the tip of a screwdriver (not shown) to drive the fastener 50', and a threaded rod 54 ', can be used alternatively in any of the above modalities. The stem 54 'is threaded in the hole 32 in the associated plug 30 or in the hole 42 in the associated region 40. If the fastener 50' is used, the rod 54 'can be of high thread. Alternatively, the hole 42 in the associated plug 30 or the hole 42 in the associated region 40 can be pre-cut.
As shown in Figure 8, a fastener 50"made from a suitable material such as steel, brass, or aluminum, or from a suitable plastic material such that it has a head 52", and A rod 54"may be used in any of the foregoing embodiments, the rod 54" is bifurcated to form two points 56"which tend to separate when they are under pressure, therefore, while the rod 54" is pressed tightly. in the hole 32 in the associated plug 30 or in the hole 42 in the associated region 40, the tips 56"must first be pressed to join the tips 56". After this, since they tend to separate, the tips 56"restrict the fastener 50" against accidental removal. In the preferred embodiment of Figure 2 and in the alternative embodiments of Figures 3, 4, and 5, there is no need to mold the front panel 22 of the basket 20 or the side panels 24 of the basket 18 with recesses to accommodate Accordingly, if the advertising cards 20 are removed accidentally or accidentally, they do not greatly affect or do not affect at all the overall appearance of the basket 18. Furthermore, in the preferred embodiment of Figure 2 and in the alternative embodiment of Figure 5, the advertising cards 20 can be conveniently attached in any of a wide range of possible locations on the front panel 22 of the basket 18 or on the side panels 24 of the basket 18. Accordingly , this invention allows a greater variety in size, shape and location of each advertising card 20. While above structures, openings and hexagonal regions are mentioned, t alternatively, structures, openings and polygonal regions, such as structures, openings and square, rectangular or triangular regions. Various other modifications may be made in any of the presented modes without departing from the scope or spirit of this invention.
