Abstract

A system to prevent a cartridge filter that is placed inside a tank hopper of a system from accidentally falling into the hopper, due to the operator's failure to properly handle the cartridge filter during the replacement of the cartridge filter, with the system including a safety cage that is secured in the reservoir, with the safety cage surrounding the cartridge filter and being spaced far enough away from the cartridge filter to allow for free, unattached removal and replenishment of the filter cartridge while allowing still the essentially unimpeded flow of air through the safety cage

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates generally to air filter systems and, more particularly, to improvements to, in the chamber cartridge filter systems, which require periodic replacement of the cartridge filters.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION One of the difficulties encountered with conveyor systems is that frequently the air within the system needs to be discharged from the system. Since the air inside the system is full of particles, it is necessary to filter the air before discharging the air into the atmosphere. Typically, a cartridge filter is placed inside the mixing or storage chamber of the system, so dirty air must flow through the cartridge filter before leaving the system. The filter system includes a cartridge adapter having members thereon that mate with the matching members within the cartridge filter. The adapter retains the cartridge filter thereto as a single unit, in order to allow the cartridge filter to be removed and replaced as a single unit, when the cartridge filter is exhausted. The holding or closing mechanisms to retain the cartridge adapter in the filter cartridge are extremely effective and actually make it difficult to remove the filter cartridge from the cartridge adapter which minimizes the chances of the cartridge filter falling towards The deposit. In this way, it is very difficult and rare that the cartridge filter accidentally falls out of the cartridge filter adapter, however, despite the safety of the fixing system, occasionally an operator error causes the cartridge filter to fall towards the system. That is, the person who is replacing the cartridge filter, removes the filter from the filter cartridge from the cartridge adapter and during the handling process could accidentally drop the filter from the old or new cartridge towards the tank. Although the clamping or closing coupling between the cartridge adapter and the cartridge filter virtually ensures that an accidental release does not occur, it has been discovered that the operator could, through lack of attention, accidentally drop the cartridge filter. to the reservoir after you have removed the filter from the filter adapter cartridge. Since the deposits are usually quite deep, it is difficult to fish the cartridge filter out of the tank. In addition, the deposit system could contain machinery that would be damaged if the cartridge filter fell inside. Even though it is highly unlikely that the adapter would fall out of the cartridge filter, the present invention addresses an unexpected handling problem that can result in the filter of the cartridge remaining inside the container. That is, the operator through inexperience or lack of attention could accidentally leave the filter cartridge inside the opening in the tank. To overcome the problem with careless personnel, the present invention provides a safety cage which prevents the operator from accidentally dropping the cartridge filter into the reservoir and causing damage to the system which however allows the operator to remove and easily replace the cartridge of filter.

COMPENDIUM OF THE INVENTION The present invention comprises a system for preventing a cartridge filter that is placed inside the hopper or hopper of a system from accidentally falling into the hopper due to operator failure to properly handle the cartridge filter during filter replacement. cartridge with the system including a safety cage that is secured in the reservoir, with the safety cage surrounding the cartridge filter and being spaced far enough away from the cartridge filter to allow for free removal and replenishment of the filter cartridge, while still allowing the flow of essentially unimpeded air through the safety cage.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS: Figure 1 shows a partial cut-away view of the conveyor systems having a reservoir in a filter placed inside the reservoir to discharge the air towards the exterior of the reservoir; Figure 2 shows a cartridge filter for use in the filter system of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a cartridge filter of Figure 2, in secure engagement with a cartridge filter adapter. Figure 4 shows the safety cage placed inside the reservoir of the conveyor system of Figure 1; and Figure 5 shows the safety cage placed around the cartridge filter to prevent a cartridge filter from falling into the reservoir.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODALITY Figure 1 shows a partial cut-away view of the conveyor system 10 having a reservoir 12 with a filter 20 placed inside the reservoir 12 to discharge the air towards the exterior of the reservoir 12. The reservoir 12 sits on the floor supported by the legs 13 and includes side walls and a top member 15. A discharge tube 16 connects the upper member 15 for transporting the material to or from the reservoir 12. The reservoir 12 includes a mixing mechanism 18 for mixing the material 16 in the reservoir 12. During operation of the reservoir system 10, the air from the internal region 17 flows through the filter 20 and is discharged into the atmosphere as indicated by the arrows. The filter removes the particulate matter from the air to avoid contaminating the air to the outside of the reservoir 12. Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a typical filter cartridge for use in the present system, the cartridge includes a first cover 21 of rigid end having a central member 23 with a set of circumferentially spaced coupling members around the central member 23. A second end cap 22 is placed on the opposite end of the filter 20 and secured with the end of the filter medium 25. Similarly, the end cap 21 is secured at the opposite end of filter means 25 to provide a filter cartridge. The end cap 21 differs from the end cap 22 in that the end cap 22 is closed so that air can only enter the interior of the filter 20 through the filter means 25. Figure 3 shows a cartridge filter adapter 30 having a set of cartridge coupling members 34 positioned in the cylindrical section 33 of the filter adapter. A tube 30 is fixed to the filter adapter 30 to allow a user to periodically push the air back through the filter cartridge 20 to receive the particulate material that is housed in the filter medium 25. The cylindrical section 33 fits inside the central member 21 in the rigid end cap 21 so that the radially extending coupling members 34 engage the radial coupling members 24 in the radial filter. To secure the adapter 30 in the filter cartridge 20, the filter cartridge 20 is rotated slightly until the coupling members are closed together in the form of a thread-like coupling. Once in engagement with one another, the coupling members securely retain the adapter and the filter as a single unit. Figure 4 shows a cartridge case 40 mounted on top that has an edge 41 for circumferentially coupling a flange 43 in order to prevent the case 40 of the cylindrical cartridge from falling into the reservoir 12. The flange 43 can be secured to the member 15 superior through welding or through bolts or rivets. The cartridge box includes a lower section 45 and a lateral section 46. The cartridge case 40 has an internal diameter D] and an internal length L ^ with the case 40 of the cartridge extending into the container 12. The cartridge case 40 includes a plurality of circumferential rings or bands 47 and a plurality of members 46. of longitudinal wire that are secured to each other to form a wire security cage 40, to encircle a cartridge filter. The openings in the wire security cage 40 are large enough so as not to impede or restrict the flow of air through the filter. If the safety cage is used in a corrosive environment, the wire safety cage can be made of stainless steel, however; Other materials for the cage could be used depending on the environment in the tank. In the embodiment shown, the wire safety cage is mounted vertically in the tank 12 that is, with the longitudinal members extending along or parallel to a vertical line. Figure 3 illustrates the cylindrical cartridge filter 20 having a diameter of outer D2 and an outer length L2 with the outer diameter being sufficiently smaller than the inner diameter D] _ of the cylindrical cartridge case 40 and the outer length L2 of the filter 20 of the cartridge being sufficiently smaller than the internal length 1__ of the cylindrical cartridge 20, in order to allow free insertion not attached to the separation or removal of the cartridge filter from the cylindrical cartridge case 40 while allowing the The cylindrical cartridge case prevents the cartridge filter 20 from accidentally falling into the container 12 in case the cartridge filter adapter 30 is decoupled from the cartridge filter 20 during the exchange of the cartridge filter 20 in the container system 10. Figure 5 shows the filter 20 and the filter adapter 30 placed in the safety cage with the safety cage separated from the sides and the end wall of the filter cartridge 20. In this condition, the filter 20 can not fall into the tank 12; however, most importantly, when an operator replaces the filter cartridge, the safety cage 40 remains inside the tank 12 so that if the operator accidentally drops the filter cartridge does not fall into the tank or damage the equipment or The deposit.
