Description

MECHANISM OF ADJUSTMENT OF WHEELS OF AFFIRMACIOM OF SEEDS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The invention is directed to a simple mechanism for adjusting the side position to the side of the closing wheels in relation to the seed sowing furrow. 2. Description of Previous Art Row crop planters generally comprise a transverse tool bar having a series of seeder units extending rearwardly. These units have a frame to which a furrow opener is modulated to form a seed seeding groove in the seed bed. The groove opener can be provided in depth control wheels to control the depth of the groove. A seed hopper can be mounted on the frame and direct the seeds to a seed doser. The seed feeders dose the seeds and direct them through a seed tube to the seed seeker groove formed by the furrow opener.
Following the seed tube and groove opener are the closing wheels. One type of locking wheels are the seed affirmation wheels. The seed-affirming wheels serve the dual purpose of closing the seed-sowing furrow and securing the seedbed. To avoid crushing and to help in the emergence of the seeds, the soil is not packed directly on the seeds. To achieve this, the wheels of affirmation of the seeds are angled to the furrow of seed seeding.
It is important that the seed setter wheels align correctly with the furrow so that the furrow is properly closed and secured. In a row crop planter currently on the market, the frame of the planter unit is provided with a wheel support member. The seed setter wheels are rotatably mounted on a bracket that is mounted to the wheel support member. The bracket is held in place by bolted covers having an adjustment cam. By moving the cam from left to right after the cover screws have been released, the seed affirmation wheels move to the right. If the cam is turned from right to left the seed affirmation wheels will move to the left. The cap screws are re-tightened to secure the seed setting wheels in their correct placement.
SYNTHESIS It is an object of the present invention to provide a bracket that is pivotally mounted to a seed drill unit frame.
The closing wheels are rotatably mounted on a bracket that is pivotally mounted to a planter unit frame. The planter unit frame is provided with a wheel support member having the left and right side walls. Both side walls are radiated. The bracket is provided with the radiated sleeves left and right. The adjustment bolts pass through the sleeves and the side walls of the wheel support member to grip the bracket in place. By rotating the bracket around a vertical axis, the side-to-side position of the seed-affirming wheels is changed. The grooves extending longitudinally on the left and right side walls of the wheel support member act as a guide for side-to-side adjustment. The sleeves are provided with two semicircular projections which project into the longitudinally extending slots.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a side view of a row planter combine harvester unit.
Figure 2 is a side view of the wheel support member and bracket.
Figure 3 is a top view of the wheel support member taken along the line 3-3.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the sleeves.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION Figure 1 describes an agricultural planter unit 10. The planter unit is provided with a parallel hinge 11 which is mounted to the transverse tool bar 12 by the U-bolt 14 in a conventional manner. The planter unit is provided with a seed tank 16 which directs the seeds to a seed batcher 18. The seed batcher 18 directs the measured seeds to a seed tube 20 to place the seeds in a seed furrow. seeds. The seed sowing furrow is formed by a furrow opener 22.
The gauge wheels 24 control the depth of the groove opener 22. A pair of seed-affirming wheels 26 close the groove after the seeds have been deposited into the groove by the seed tube 20. The illustrated planter unit is also provides a pesticide reservoir 28 for directing pesticides to the soil by the applicator 30. A suitable pesticide dispenser (not shown) controls the application of the pesticide. In addition, a bubble counter 32 is positioned in front of the groove opener 22 to help open the seed seeding groove. All these elements are mounted on a frame of the planter unit 33.
The planter discussed above is of a relatively conventional configuration. Typically, a plurality of seeder units are mounted on a tool bar 12 so that a farmer can plant more than one row in a single pass over the field. Although the present invention is illustrated as being mounted on a row crop seeding unit 10 it can also be mounted on other planting equipment like grain seeders and as such, the invention is not limited to row crop planters .
The seed affirmation wheels 26 are rotatably mounted to the bracket 34 which in turn is mounted on the wheel support member 36. The bracket is provided with a handle 38 which can be promoted to control the amount of pressure downwardly. transferred from the seeder unit to the seed affirmation wheels 26. The handle is coupled to a spring 40 which is also coupled to a tail hanging down 42 on the wheel support member 36. Details of the support member of wheel 36 are better illustrated in Figures 2-4. The wheel support member 36 is a setting which is screwed to the seeding unit by the bolts 43. The member 36 is provided with the left and right side walls 44 and 46, respectively, both having the radiated surfaces left and right 48. and 50, respectively. In addition, the left and right side walls are provided with the longitudinally extending slots 52.
The bracket is provided with two radiated sleeves left and right 56 and 58 respectively. The radiated surfaces 59 of the sleeves 56 and 58 contact the radiated surfaces 48 and 50 of the radius support member 36. The sleeve is also provided with two semicircular projections 60 which are received in the longitudinally extending slots. Two adjustment bolts 62 with the nuts 64 are used to grip the bracket to the wheel support member. These adjustment bolts 62 pass through the sleeves 56 and 58 and the longitudinally extending slot 52 and are held in place by the nuts 64.
The sleeves 56 and 58 are located in large round openings 68 in the side walls of the bracket. Each sleeve is provided with a cylindrical body 70, with an outwardly extending eyebrow 72. The outwardly extending eyebrow 72 lies against the outer side walls of the bracket, as illustrated in Figure 3.
The operator, by adjusting the side-to-side position of the locking wheels, first loosens the adjustment bolts and then pivots the bracket around a vertical axis until the seed-affirming wheels are correctly positioned in their side-to-side position. . The adjustment bolts are then retightened by grasping the bracket in place. This provides a simple assembly to change the side-to-side position of the seed-affirming wheels.
The invention should not be limited to the modality described above but should be limited only by the clauses that follow.
