Abstract

An improved tip for a spark plug for spark motors is described which protects the inside of the spark plug and the positive electrode from dirt accumulation, preventing the thermal range of the spark plug and the conduction of the positive electrode from being reduced or excessively increased. The tip is made in one piece with the positive electrode based on two embedded metal sections.

Description

IMPROVED TIP FOR SPARK PLUG TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to spark plugs of internal combustion engines and more particularly to an improvement in tips for spark plugs for internal combustion engines.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In alternative thermal engines that run on gaso lina, the spark plug is an organ designed to produce, inside the cylinder chamber, the spark that ignites the mixture of air and gasoline fed to it. The spark plug has as its essential components two electrodes, one of which is connected to the motor's mass, and the other, which is isolated by a porcelain body, is placed, by various means, at a very high voltage in order to to cause the discharge or spark from the distributor to the mixture of air and fuel that, when ignited in this way, explodes and burns, producing expanding gases that confined in the cylinder chamber, cause the displacement of the cylinder inside the chamber. One of the main problems in the spark plugs is to provide an insulator between both electrodes with good dielectric properties at the operating temperatures of the engines, a problem which is compounded by the accumulation of dirt inside the spark plug that reduces the thermal range of the spark plug and decreases the conductivity of the positive electrode, causing the low efficiency of the combustion process in the chambers of the cylinders in the engine. Another disadvantage of the prior art is that to calibrate the spark plugs the negative electrode is banded, usually welded to the outer sleeve, while a metal sheet of the proper caliber is inserted between it and the positive electrode, both electrodes being damaged as a result. of this operation. Another aspect to be foreseen is to avoid leakage of gases through the joints between the insulator and the tip of the positive electrode or by any of the ferrules, since they result in overheating of the spark plug with the consequent effects of ignition, since under operating conditions a heat flux is established from the central positive electrode and the insulator to the external metallic cap that is in contact with the cooled head of the cylinder and towards the spark plug head exposed to the atmosphere. According to the above, automotive spark plugs are classified on a qualitative scale from cold to hot, depending on the design of the heat flux from the central positive electrode and the insulator. For all the above, the inventor of the present application made a multiplicity of investigations, tests and experiments -which led him to provide a new tip for improved spark plug, in order to eliminate the drawbacks of prior art and to all lights it is of great importance in the part of the engineering to which the invention belongs. The applicant hereby has developed an improved tip for spark plug. This spark plug tip has as its main feature being manufactured in one piece with the electrode, based on a lower tip of nichrome embedded in a brass or copper-plated barrel that comes into contact with the head of the electrode in the upper part of the ceramic insulator, in order to form a metallic tip of only one piece. The metallic head of the spark plug electrode is screwed to the upper part of the insulator body by means of a male thread which is inserted into a female thread in the body of the insulator. The body of the ceramic insulator with the tip thus described can be manufactured in different shapes and dimensions, as it can be used with external metal ferrules or negative electrodes of different shapes and dimensions, according to the needs, such as the annular sections of the insulator in contact with them. Nowadays, when environmental pollution has reached worrying limits in the whole world, there is an urgent need to develop new anti-pollution devices, especially in automobiles, hence the concern of the inventor of the present to carry out unique modifications in the conventional structure of the spark plugs, in order to reduce as much as possible the waste -contaminants, produced by the combustion process of the engines.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION The main objective of the present invention is to provide a spark plug tip that does not allow the inside of the spark plug to get dirty and where the thermal range of the spark plug is located and which, as a consequence, reduces such range and, protect the tip of the positive electrode at the same time.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS For a better understanding of the present invention, this is described based on a preferred embodiment illustrated in the single figure that accompanies this description and in which: Figure 1 is a vertical elevation view, in sectional section, where shows a spark plug tip made in accordance with the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION With reference to Figure 1, the spark plug tip of the present invention is formed by an insulator or ceramic (1) that contains inside it a positive electrode formed by a threaded head (7) of metal that is screwed into the part top of the insulator (1) and which is provided with a space (6) for expansion to couple the barrel (3) of brass or copper, which is positioned within the hole by means of a compactor washer (5), below - whose level, the barrel (3) comes in contact with a sealing mixture - (4) of compacted transmitting (or conductive) powder. The metallic barrel (3) increases in section at its lower end to accommodate the tip - (2) of nicromel material or positive electrode. This insulator (1) already armed with the above elements, is engargola to an outer metal cap (6) (not shown) that is vitalized with a copper-chromium bath to withstand high temperatures transmitting current in the combustion of the different gasoline engines. This bushing (6) (not shown) has been the negative pole for being screwed in the monoblock (not shown) of the engine and at its tip it has a conical shape with two cross-shaped cuts (7) (not shown) (these cuts can be one, two or three, etc.), so that the crossing or center of these

Claims (2)

Tes produce the calibration required for each spark plug, subtracting the thickness of the tip (2) of the nichrome. Example: If the tip of the insulator - (Nicro el) measures .100"(tenths of an inch) and the spark plug requires .030" of calibration, the intermediate center from end to end of the bushing must have .160". ceramic insulator (1) can be manufactured in different ways, so that it can be used with extendable metal bushes or different negative electrodes, according to the needs, such as the annular sections (la) and (Ib) shown in figure 1 It will be evident to those skilled in the art, that innumerable modifications can be made to the present invention without deviating from the spirit and scope thereof, so it should be considered in its broadest and non-limiting sense. NOVELTY OF THE INVENTION Having described the invention, it is considered as a novelty and, therefore, the content of the following is claimed as property: R E I V I N D I C A C I O N S
1. Improved tip in spark plugs for internal combustion engines characterized by being formed by a pole or positive metallic pole of -one piece with the electrode, which enters under pressure in the center of an insulator, coming into contact with a foundry based on dust metallic co that serves as conductor and sealing the union of the cylindrical tip or positive pole with the ceramic insulator, so as not to leak inside the body of the insulator;
2. Improved tip in spark plugs for internal combustion engines formed by a pole or positive metallic pole in a single piece with the electrode, in accordance with claim 1, characterized by being integrated by two embedded metal poles occupying the full length of the head-alslador-tip assembly that protrudes from the body of the insulator.
