Description
INCLI ADOR FOR CASES WITH WHEELS
# BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION I. Field of the Invention The present invention generally relates to a conveyor. More particularly, the present invention relates to a conveyor for tilting objects, such as wheeled suitcases, to a tilted position on a conveyor. II. Description of the Prior Art Conveyors having a continuous band for transporting articles from a receiving point to a delivery point for such articles are well known in the art. The above web conveyors describe a conveyor belt for transporting cement or other particles of fine grains. The ends of the band are brought together to form a tubular conveyor to support the cement during the transportation of a discharge station. A fluted-type f-ft-ranspartadar can be used to transport granulated material. For example, a belt conveyor having a "U" shaped channel can be equipped with separating rollers that vibrate in the beam for odd and stable vibration to the belt of the conveyor causing the coal to migrate to the center of the belt. band during transportation. These types of conveyors are not comfortably suitable for many types of materials, such as boxes and suitcases.
Also known are the belt conveyor systems used at airport terminals to deliver suitcases to, and from? the passengers. In such systems.
1 luggage is transported frequently consecutively by a quantity of bands. The luggage is placed in the conveyor system in a vertical position by a person handling the luggage. However, suitcases, particularly, suitcases that have wheels, have a tendency to move out of alignment as they are being transferred from a band a. another and falling off the band while they are being transported through the anda transport system. Therefore, it would be advantageous to have a conveyor system which would prevent luggage from misaligning or falling out of the belt.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a conveyor system 1 that orients an object such as a piece of luggage in a downward or inclined boc position before the subject is fed into the main conveyor system. The conveyor acts to flip objects that are in a relatively unstable position due to a high center of gravity, to a more stable position which has a lower center of gravity. Said transporter is particularly useful in the transportation of baggage at airports. The present invention consists of a belt conveyor. The conveyor includes a structure having a support band of the structure for transporting objects such as suitcases. The intermediate section in the form of "V" extends between the generally flat receiving section and the section of m HQ - normally flat ejection of the conveyor. In the middle section, the objects that are on the conveyor are transported at an angle due to the "V" shaped channel. Suitcases that are higher than wide, are in an unstable position, when they are supported from low to an angle. According to the above, said objects are inclined to the position "tilted or upside down, when traveling through the section
-intermediate, The pairs of separation rollers are mounted to each other to form a channel in the shape of "V". Then, the object is fed to a discharge section in an inclined position and transferred to the main conveyor system in this same position. By tilting the objects in an inclined position, the user is assured that the material is discharged into the main conveyor system in a stable inclined position, which eliminates the loss of the luggage or the turning of the luggage towards one side of the conveyor.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other advantages and features of the present invention will be readily understood by reading the following detailed description of the invention in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals refer to like parts in the drawings, and in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of the conveyor system of the present invention, W - - Figure 2 is a fragmented plan view showing the area of the conveyor system of the present invention, which forces the orientation of the material at an inclined position in the main conveyor system, Figure 3 is the side view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention; and Figure 4 is a sectional view of the embodiment illustrated in Figure 3. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Modality of the Present Invention With reference to Figure 1, there is shown a transporter 10 particularly suitable for tilting an object 40, such as a piece of luggage. The conveyor system 10 includes a main structure 14 having a pair of parallel spaced rails 16 which extend only once. The conveyor system 10 further includes a continuous band 18 extending between the spaced parallel rails 16. Within the main structure 14 a motor assembly is provided to impart movement to the band 18 in a horizontal manner around the main structure 14. Although the system shown is particularly suitable for suitcases, this system can be used for any object - which has a center of gravity relative to or in an ation and a lower, more stable center of gravity in a second alignment. The motor assembly includes a motor (not shown) to operate a drive wheel 20. The drive wheel 20 is in a manner customary with the web 18 to move the web in the main structure 14. The web 18 is fastened along the transport path 48 by the spacer rollers 28 and the drums 50, the drums 50 rotate freely to guide the band 18 as it is being
driven by the drive wheel 20. A compensating assembly is provided on the opposite side of the drive wheel.
Transmission 20 along the path of the conveyor 48. The compensation assembly includes three drums 52, 54, 56 which freely rotate each one. The assembly of
The compensation provides traction to the band 18. In the event that the band 18 is stretched by use and does not fit fictitiously with the transmission wheel 20, the drum 52 of the compensating assembly will move it internally towards the transmission wheel 20 to tighten the game in the
'? Fig. 18. The drum 52 of the compensating assembly can also be moved outwardly away from the transmission wheel 20, in order to increase the clearance in the band 18, thereby increasing the frictional fit of the band 18. along the separation rollers 28. Increasing the play of the band 18 may be necessary to create the desired "V" shaped profile to allow the material 40 to fall in an inclined position.
As shown in Figure 1, the conveyor includes an internal feed section of the conveyor 22 extending from one end of the structure 14 to receive i-object 40. Preferably the internal feed section of the conveyor 22 extends to along the horizontal plane 34 parallel to the spaced rail 16. The conveyor also includes a discharge section of the conveyor 24 which extends from an opposite end of the main structure 14 to deliver the luggage 0 40 to the main conveyor 12 system after that the luggage has been tilted to a more stable configuration. The unloading magazine of the conveyor 24 also extends along a horizontal plane 36 parallel to the spaced rails 16. An intermediate section of the conveyor 26 extends between the internal feed section of the conveyor 22 and the discharge section of the conveyor. conveyor 25. As best illustrated in Figures 2; and 4, the intermediate section of the conveyor 26 operates to ensure that the object 40 is? '? transferred from the belt conveyor system 10 to the main system of the conveyor 12 in an inclined position, providing a section of the band in the form of "V" 18. The section in the form of "V" has two long longitudinal portions. which are angled at approximately 140 ° one with respect to D of the other. The longitudinal portions are held in a series of assemblies of rodi the channel separators 28 as shown in Figure 3.
With reference to Figures 2 and 4, each of the spacer assemblies includes a pair of spacer rollers 30. One end of the roller is mounted in a rotatory manner in a
1P-s-Coverage 42 mounted to a side portion of the main structure and the other end is mounted on a lower support 44 which is fastened on a crosshead 46 that extends perpendicularly between the spaced rails 16. The rollers are mounted on an inclined axis 38 of approximately 20 degrees from the horizontal plane. For such items as suitcases the 20 degree angle from the horizontal position ensures that the spreader separator roller assembly 28 will hold the Teontinua band 18 in a "V" shaped contour 32. With reference to Figure 1, the preferred embodiment of the conveyor 10 of the present invention is shown during its operation. The object 40, such as a wheeled suitcase, is placed on the conveyor 10 in the internal feed section. The wheeled suitcase 40 has been placed on the conveyor 10 in a vertical position or a relatively unstable position. '' W. As the object approaches the section 26 of the conveyor 10, the web 18 forms a contour in the shape of "V" 32, defined by the spreader separator roller assemblies 2 £ i, due to the gravity and the weight of the suitcase with wheels. The suitcase which is unstable due to a center of high gravity will fall on either side of the "V" formed by the band and will thus travel in a tilted position to the discharge section 24.
As the suitcase 40 approaches the unloading section 24 of the conveyor. the suitcase 40 has a tendency to remain in the inclined position when it enters the arizontal plane 36 defined by the discharge section 24. In this way, the suitcase 40 is fed into a main conveyor system in an inclined position. In accordance with how the present invention has been described, those skilled in the art will find that many modifications to it can be practiced, such as the use of conductive rolls instead of a band to move the suitcase through the section. in the form of "V". These and other changes are found
