In the USP document -5, 084, 087, a ready-to-dilute herbicidal composition comprises a cyclohexanone herbicide, a nonionic polyoxyethylene surfactant having a HLB from 10 to 14, dialkyl sulfosuccinate anionic surfactant or metal alkylaromatic sulfonate, a non-ionic surfactant is disclosed of polyoxyalkylene having an HLB of less than 10 and fatty acid alkanol ester.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a herbicidal composition comprising i) 5 to 40% by weight of cletodin, ii) 0.1 to 10% by weight of sulfonate surfactant, iii) 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one surfactant nonionic selected from the group consisting of fatty alcohol ether REF .: 168601
of polyoxyalkylene and polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether and iv) to 94.8% by weight of aromatic hydrocarbon. In accordance with the present invention, the composition containing cletodin can provide a stable emulsion when diluted with hard water as well as with normal water.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In the present invention, cletodin is a herbicide ingredient, and the chemical name of cletodin is (±) -2- [(E) -1- [(E) -3-chloroalyloxyimino] propyl] - 5- [2- (ethylthio) propyl] -3-hydroxycyclohex-2-enone of the formula:
It can be obtained in the market, for example, it is provided by Valent U.S.A. Corporation, Tomen Agro, Inc. or Arvesta Corporation. The content of cletodin in the herbicidal composition of the present invention is 5 to 40% by weight, preferably 10 to 30% by weight. The sulfonate surfactant means an anionic surfactant having at least one sulfonic acid salt group in the molecule. Examples of surfactant of
sulfonate include alkylbenzenesulfonic acid salts (for example, benzenesulfonate (C 8 -C 15 alkyl)), alkylnaphthalenesulfonic acid salts, alkylsulfonic acid salts, alkylether sulfonic acid salts, fatty alcohol alcohoxysulfonic acid salts, and polyoxyalkylenetriethrylphenylether sulfonic acid salts. Typical examples of the salt are calcium, sodium and potassium salts. Typical examples of the sulfonate are dodecylbenzenesulfonate, diisopropylnaphthalenesulfonate, diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonate, α-olefinsulfonate and dialkylsulfosuccinate. Among this, calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and potassium dodecylbenzenesulfonate are preferably used. The content of the sulfonate surfactant in the herbicidal composition of the present invention is 0.1 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 5.0% by weight. The polyoxyalkylene fatty alcohol ether is a nonionic surfactant which is polyoxyalkylated fatty alcohol. It is also known as polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether and is typically given by the formula: R-0- (A0) nH, wherein R is a higher alkyl which may contain one or more carbon * carbon double bonds, in other words, R may be alkenyl, (AO) n is block copolymer of polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene or polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene and n is 2 to 30. It can be produced by an addition of alkylene oxide to
fatty alcohol. Typical examples of polyoxyalkylene fatty alcohol ether include polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, polyoxyethylene octyl ether, polyoxyethylene myristyl ether, polyoxyethylene stearyl ether and polyoxyethylene oleyl ether. It is prepared by the addition of alkylene oxide (eg, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide) of fatty alcohol, called C10-C22 aliphatic alcohol. The HLB of the polyoxyalkylene fatty alcohol ether is preferably 9 to 17. The HLB stands for Hydrophilic-Lipoxyl Balance which is well known in the field of surfactants. The polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether is also known as polyoxyalkylene alkylphenol and means a nonionic surfactant which is polyoxyalkylated alkylphenol. It can be produced by an addition of alkylene oxide to alkylphenol. It is typically given by the formula: R-C6H4-0- (AO) nHwherein R is an alkyl, (A0) n is polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene or polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene block copolymer and n is 2 to 50. Typical examples of polyoxyalkylene alkyl phenyl ether include polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether and polyoxyethylene octyl phenyl ether. The polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether HLB is generally 10 to 16, preferably 11 to 14. The content of fatty alcohol ether of polyoxyalkylene and / or polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether in the
The herbicidal composition of the present invention is 0.1 to 30% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 20% by weight. The aromatic hydrocarbon is generally a solvent that can dissolve the cletodin. That is, the aromatic hydrocarbon is usually used in the amount that can dissolve the clethodin contained in the herbicidal composition. Examples of the aromatic hydrocarbon include xylene, phenylxylylethane, Hisol SAS-296 (a mixture of 1-phenyl-1-xylylethane and 1-phenyl-1-ethylphenylethane, commercially named Nippon Petroleum Company), Cactus Solvent HP-DMN
