Abstract

Se describe un montaje de preforma para moldear por soplado un recipiente, que incluye una preforma de plastico moldeada (22, 52 o 62) que tiene un cuerpo (26) y un cuello (28 o 54) con una superficie externa. Description

1 MONTAJE DE PREFORMA DE RECIPIENTE Y METODO DE FABRICACION ANTECEDENTES DE LA INVENCIÓN La presente invención está dirigida a las preformas para moldear por soplado recipientes de plástico, y a los métodos para la elaboración de tales preformas . BREVE DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA INVENCIÓN En la fabricación de los recipientes de plástico, es convencional moldear por inyección o moldear por compresión una preforma de recipiente que tiene un cuerpo y un acabado de cuello con una o más roscas externas . El acabado de cuello típicamente es moldeado a su geometría final, mientras que el cuerpo de la preforma es subsecuentemente moldeado por soplado a la geometría deseada del cuerpo del recipiente. La preforma puede ser de construcción de monocapa, o puede ser una construcción de capas múltiples en la cual una o más capas intermedias en el cuerpo de la preforma pueden o no extenderse dentro del área de acabado del cuello de la preforma. Las Patentes de los Estados Unidos Nos. 4,609,516, 4,710,118 y 4,954,376 ilustran el moldeo por inyección de preformas de recipientes de capas múltiples. El moldeo de la porción de acabado del recipiente, como parte de la preforma, presenta un número de problemas. Por ejemplo, cuando las preformas son formadas mediante Ref . :166521 2 moldeo por inyección, el material plástico típicamente es inyectado dentro de una cavidad de molde en el extremo cerrado _del cuerpo de la preforma, de modo que el material debe fluir a lo largo de los lados de la cavidad de la preforma hacia el área en la cual se moldea el acabado. El acabado típicamente requiere dimensionamiento más preciso y estable que el cuerpo de la preforma, que puede limitar el tiempo de ciclo del proceso de moldeo. Además, la porción de acabado de la preforma es del mismo material que al menos las capas exteriores del cuerpo de la preforma, lo cual limita la habilidad para obtener las características más deseables en el acabado.- Cuando la preforma es de construcción de poliéster, tal como tereftalato de polietileno (PET) , la porción de acabado de la preforma puede estar total o parcialmente cristalizada para mejorar las características de operación del área de acabado, particularmente en aplicaciones de recipientes de llenado en caliente. No obstante, el requerimiento de que el acabado del cuello sea del mismo material que al menos las capas exteriores del cuerpo de la preforma, todavía limita las capacidades de diseño de la fabricación de la preforma. Un montaje de preforma para moldear por soplado un recipiente de acuerdo a un primer aspecto de la presente invención, incluye una preforma de plástico moldeada que tiene un cuerpo y un cuello con una superficie externa. Un 3 anillo de acabado de plástico es moldeado separadamente de la preforma y tiene una superficie interna. El anillo de acabado es asegurado sobre el cuello de la preforma con las superficies en acoplamiento cara a cara. Una o ambas de las superficies externa e interna son definidas por una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas y una pluralidad de espacios abiertos entre las partes planas . Los espacios abiertos entre las partes planas reducen la transferencia de calor entre el cuello de la preforma y el anillo de acabado. En modalidades preferidas ejemplares de la invención, las partes planas incluyen ya sea nervaduras axiales espaciadas o nervaduras circunferenciales espaciadas, y los espacios abiertos incluyen canales axiales espaciados o bien canales circunferenciales espaciados entre las nervaduras. DESCRIPCIÓN DETALLADA DE LAS MODALIDADES PREFERIDAS Las Figuras 1-4 ilustran un montaje de preforma 20 de acuerdo con una modalidad actualmente preferida, ejemplar, de la invención que incluye una preforma 22 que tiene un anillo de acabado 24 externamente asegurado a ésta. La preforma 22 incluye un cuerpo 26 que tiene un extremo inferior cerrado. Un cuello 28 se extiende integralmente desde el extremo superior del cuerpo 26, y una pestaña 30 se proyecta radialmente hacia afuera desde el extremo superior abierto del cuello 28, que rodea la boca de la preforma. El 5 cuello 28 típicamente es cilindrico y preferentemente está coaxial con el cuerpo 26 de la preforma. (Las palabras direccionales tales como "superior" e "inferior" son empleadas a manera de descripción y no de limitación con respecto a la orientación vertical de los montajes de preforma ilustrados en las figuras . En la modalidad de las Figuras 1-4, el cuello 28 tiene una pluralidad de nervaduras 32 circunferencialmente espaciadas, que se extienden axialmente, que se extienden a todo lo largo de la longitud axial del cuello desde la pestaña 30 a donde el cuello 28 se flexiona dentro del cuerpo 26. Las nervaduras 32 están separadas una de la otra por una pluralidad correspondiente de canales 34 circunferencialmente espaciados, que se extienden axialmente. Las superficies exteriores de las nervaduras 32 definen una superficie exterior del cuello 28, que está preferentemente sobre un cilindro común de revolución coaxial del cuello 28 y el cuerpo 26 de la preforma. El anillo de acabado 24 incluye una pared anular 36, sobre la cual se coloca al menos una rosca externa o segmento de rosca 38. En las modalidades preferidas de la invención lustrada en laas figuras, el anillo de acabado 24 6 también incluye una protuberancia externa 40 sobre la pared 36 para cooperar con la estructura indicadora de manipulación inadecuada, sobre un cierre asegurado al recipiente final, y una tapa o pestaña de soporte 42 que se extiende radialmente hacia afuera desde el extremo inferior de la pared 36. En el montaje, el anillo de acabado 24 es ensamblado a la preforma 22 sobre las nervaduras 32 del cuello 28. El diámetro interno del anillo 24 está preferentemente coordinado con el diámetro externo de las nervaduras 32, tal que el anillo 24 está asegurado a la preforma 22 por ajuste a presión de interferencias sobre las nervaduras 32. Como una alternativa, el anillo de acabado 24 puede ser asegurado al cuello de la preforma mediante ajuste de encogimiento por interferencia, y el aseguramiento puede ser suplementado por adhesivo o soldadura ultrasónica, si se desea. Los espacios abiertos proporcionados por los canales 34 entre las partes planas formadas por las nervaduras 32 ayudan a aislar el anillo de acabado 24 del calor dentro del cuello 28 de la preforma, durante el moldeo por soplado de la preforma en un recipiente, o durante el llenado en caliente del recipiente con producto líquido. Las Figuras 5-7 ilustran un montaje 50 de preforma de acuerdo con una segunda modalidad preferida ejemplar de la invención. Los números de referencia en las Figuras 5-7 (y Figura 8) que son idénticos a aquellos empleados en las 7 Figuras 1-4, indican componentes correspondientemente idénticos o similares. El montaje 50 de preforma incluye una preforma 52 a la cual está externamente asegurado un anillo de acabado 24. La preforma 52 incluye un cuerpo 26 con un extremo inferior cerrado, un cuello 54 integralmente moldeado con el cuerpo 26, y una pestaña 30 que se extiende radialmente hacia afuera desde el extremo superior abierto del cuello 54 de la preforma. La estructura aislante del calor en las modalidades de las Figuras 5-7 incluye las partes planas o pisos sobre el cuello 54 formadas por una pluralidad de nervaduras 56 axialmente espaciadas, que se extienden circunferencialmente , y los espacios abiertos formados por una pluralidad de canales 58 axialmente espaciados, que se extienden circunferencialmente , entre las nervaduras 56. Las nervaduras 56 definen la superficie exterior del cuerpo 54, que yacen preferentemente sobre un cilindro común de revolución coaxial con el cuello 54 y el cuerpo 26 de la preforma. Una vez más, el espacio abierto proporcionado por los canales 58 ayuda a aislar el anillo de acabado 24 del calor en el cuerpo 26 de la preforma y el cuerpo 54. Como una alternativa a la modalidad de la Figura 8, las nervaduras espaciadas podrían ser proporcionadas sobre el cuello de la preforma y sobre el anillo de acabado. Las nervaduras en el cuello de la preforma podrían estar ortogonales a las nervaduras sobre el cuello de la preforma. Como otra alternativa más a la Figura 8, las nervaduras 66 podrían extenderse circunferencialmente alrededor del anillo 64, en vez de axialmente . Las preformas 22, 52, 62, pueden ser de cualquier construcción plástica adecuada. Tal como PET monocapa o construcción de capas múltiples de capas de PET que se alternan con capas de resina de barrera tal como alcohol etilenvinílico (EVOH) o nailon. Las preformas 22, 52, 62 pueden ser moldeadas por inyección o moldeadas por 9 compresión. De igual modo, los anillos de acabado 24, 64 pueden ser de construcción de. plástico moldeada por inyección o compresión. Mediante la provisión de anillos de acabado 24, 64 separados de las preformas 22, 52, 62, el anillo de acabado puede ser de cualquier construcción de material deseada, ya sea la misma que o más preferentemente diferente de la construcción de material de la preforma. Por ejemplo, el anillo de acabado puede ser de PET, resina para post - consumidor (PCR), remolienda de proceso (REG) , polipropileno (PP), polietileno (PE) o naftalato de polietileno (PEN) . Donde el anillo de acabado es de construcción de poliéster (por ejemplo, PET, PEN o remolienda de proceso) , el anillo de acabado puede ser total o parcialmente cristalizado conforme es moldeado. Esto puede ser logrado mediante el empleo de materiales de rápida cristalización o condiciones de proceso de ajuste adecuado para la fabricación del anillo de acabado, tal como la alta temperatura del molde, enfriamiento lento del molde, áreas calientes en la cavidad del molde, etc. El anillo de acabado alternativamente puede ser total o parcialmente cristalizado en la operación de post-moldeo. En otras palabras, el material y las condiciones de fabricación del anillo de acabado pueden ser seleccionadas separadamente del material y las condiciones de fabricación de la preforma para 10 lograr las características de operación deseadas en el área de acabado de la preforma y el recipiente final. Además, la preforma puede ser moldeada con secciones de pared delgadas sin tener que acomodar el flujo de material en un área de acabado más gruesa, lo cual reduce el costo de material y el tiempo de ciclo de moldeo. El anillo de acabado es asegurado al cuello de la. preforma por ajuste de interferencia (por ejemplo, ajuste a presión o ajuste por encogimiento), adhesivo o soldadura. Las implementaciones actualmente preferidas de la invención involucran el ajuste a presión por interferencia del anillo de acabado sobre el cuello de la preforma. El anillo de acabado y/o el cuello de la preforma pueden ser proporcionados con medios adecuados para prevenir la rotación del anillo sobre el cuello. De este modo, se ha descrito un montaje de preforma y un método de fabricación que satisfacen completamente todos los objetivos y metas previamente descritos. La invención ha sido descrita en conexión con tres modalidades actualmente preferidas, ejemplares, y ha sido discutido un número de modificaciones y variaciones. Otras modificaciones y variaciones serán sugeridas fácilmente por sí mismas a las personas de experiencia ordinaria en la técnica. La 11 invención está destinada a abarcar todas las modificaciones y variaciones tales que caigan dentro del espíritu y amplio alcance de las reivindicaciones anexas. 12 REIVINDICACIONES Habiéndose descrito la invención como antecede, se reclama como propiedad lo contenido en las siguientes reivindicaciones:
1. Un montaje de preforma para moldear por soplado un recipiente, caracterizado porque incluye: una preforma de plástico moldeada que tiene un cuerpo y un cuello con una superficie externa, un anillo de acabado de plástico moldeado separadamente de la preforma y que tiene una superficie interna, una o ambas de las superficies interna y externa tienen una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas que definen las superficies, y una pluralidad de espacios abiertos entre las partes planas, el anillo de acabado es externamente asegurado sobre el cuello con las superficies externa e interna en acoplamiento, los espacios abiertos entre las partes planas reducen la transferencia de calor entre el cuello y el anillo .
2. El montaj e de preforma de conformidad con la reivindicación 1, caracterizado porque las partes planas incluyen nervaduras circunferencialmente espaciadas que se 13 extienden axialmente, integralmente moldeadas con el cuello o el anillo, o ambos, los espacios abiertos incluyen los canales ci cunferencialmente espaciados, que se extienden axialmente, entre las nervaduras .

Un montaje de preforma para moldear por 14 soplado un recipiente, caracterizado porque incluye: una preforma de plástico moldeada que tiene un cuerpo y un cuello con una superficie externa, el cuello incluye una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas moldeadas integralmente con el cuello y el cuerpo, y que definen la superficie externa del cuello, y una pluralidad de espacios abiertos entre las partes planas, y un anillo de acabado de plástico moldeado separadamente de la preforma y externamente asegurado sobre las partes planas, los espacios abiertos entre las partes planas reducen la transferencia de calor entre el cuello y el anillo .
8. El montaje de preforma de conformidad con la reivindicación 7, caracterizado porque las partes planas incluyen nervaduras circunferencialmente espaciadas, que se extienden axialmente, integralmente moldeadas con el cuello y que definen la superficie exterior coaxialmente con el cuello, las superficies abiertas incluyen los canales circunferencialmente espaciados, que se extienden axialmente, entre las nervaduras.

Un método para fabricar un montaje de preforma para moldeo por soplado de un recipiente, caracterizado el método porque incluye los pasos de: (a) moldear una preforma de plástico que tiene un cuerpo y un cuello con una superficie externa, 16 (b) moldear un anillo de acabado de plástico, separadamente de la preforma, y que tiene una superficie interna, (c) moldear una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas sobre el cuello en el paso (a) para definir la superficie externa, y/o moldear una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas sobre el anillo en el paso (b) para definir la superficie interna, y (d) asegurar externamente el anillo sobre el cuello con las superficies en acoplamiento, tal que los espacios abiertos entre las partes planas reducen la transferencia de calor entre el cuello y el anillo.
15. El método de conformidad con la reivindicación 14, caracterizado porque el paso (d) es llevado a cabo mediante ajuste de interferencia, adhesión o soldadura.
16. Un método para fabricar un montaje de preforma para moldear por soplado un recipiente, caracterizado porque incluye los pasos de: (a) moldear una preforma que tiene un cuerpo y un cuello con una superficie externa, el cuello incluye una pluralidad de partes planas espaciadas moldeadas integralmente con el cuello y el cuerpo, y que definen la superficie externa del cuello, y una pluralidad de espacios abiertos entre las partes planas , (b) moldear un anillo de acabado de plástico 17 separadamente de la preforma, y (c) asegurar externamente el anillo de acabado a las partes planas, los espacios abiertos entre las partes planas reducen la transferencia de calor entre el cuello y el anillo.
17. El método de conformidad con la reivindicación 16, caracterizado porque el paso (c) es llevado a cabo mediante ajuste por interferencia, adhesión o soldadura.
18. El método de conformidad con la reivindicación 16, caracterizado porque el anillo de acabado de plástico es de construcción de poliéster, y en donde el paso (b) incluye cristalizar total o parcialmente el anillo de acabado antes del paso (c) .
